Pern Time 5th Pass, Turn 1, Spring
Real Life Time End of June 2010 through early July 2010
Time from meteors showers and disaster to reaching Dragon Weyr -- Approximately 2 to 3 sevendays.
Basic Plot OutlineThe riders who have left their Weyrs in search of a safe haven have landed on the first of many islands in a chain of islands in the sea. They are planning to hop from one to the next to find one large enough to make into a home. Once they find it, they will build Dragon Weyr and Dragon Hold together to save Pern.
Chalarath will rise as soon as the evacuees reach their new home and a clutch will soon harden on the sands of the island. Inside the clutch will be a surprising twist as two new dragon colors will emerge for the first time!
Plot SummarySitting on the far eastern shores of Benden lands, survivors of the meteor shower, earthquakes and volcanic activity begin to gather in hopes of finding a safe place to call home until the destruction ceases. On those shores, dragons, riders, holders, crafters, and the like gathered in hopes of finding a home on the islands out in the sea.
Maram of Gold Chalarath had lead many to this temporary oasis, expecting to fly until they found a home or die in the attempt. It was there, as the group rested that many others appeared, from Weyrs, Holds and Halls all over Pern. The first to join them was R’enh of Bronze Mnoranth from Benden Weyr. With him he brought the aging Benden Weyrwoman, Sorelle of Gold Sivarith. Sorelle, however, was not in her right mind after having lost her weyrmate to the destruction.
With R’enh’s prior knowledge of some of the islands, he agrees to fly out over the water to find a safe landing spot on the first, larger island. With the grounds still in upheaval, and ask and darkness clouding the skies, communication and /betweening/ have become more difficult. R’enh and Mnoranth, though tired, fly out until they find the island. Soon they are back on the sands of the Benden lands. In his absence, Maram has prepared the rest of the survivors for what will be the next leg of their journey.
Tobias and Lilia, both masters in their crafts are among the group that awaits the finding of a new home. The two spent their time assisting as they are able. Tobias with leather repairs and harness work, Lilia with songs and stories to lift the spirits of those who have suffered so much. With Lilia is her son, Renhick, a child borne of a brief union between her and R’enh at Benden.
Soon others begin to arrive. T’nev of Brown Raeth from Ista and B’lor of Bronze Imahyth from Fort. R’enh informs Maram that the island has been found, but first he wants to check that the coordinates will work. They do not wish to suffer any more losses. He asks T’nev to join him on this second journey, but Maram is upset. She wants to see the island for herself. She has been in charge for so long, she is having difficulty accepting someone else looking after the group’s well-being. After a brief argument with R’enh, at which Maram bristles, she realizes that he is right. It is not wise to risk the one remaining Gold dragon capable of rising.
So, with Sorelle and B’lor at her side, Maram organizes all the others into groups. Some will make the /between/ jump first, while others will wait behind and go second. Before the group sets off, Tobias helps a green rider fix one of her straps. Soon, R’enh and T’nev return and the dragons begin the jump /between/.
Meanwhile, a second group from Ista manages to arrive from /between/ onto some of the smaller islands south of the main group. D’vin, former rider of bronze Regolth, has led the group to this spot. In his arms his carries Tael, the Weyrwoman from Ista. Tael is suffering from all the losses and has not regained consciousness, though she still lives.
A group from Telgar arrives just as the last of the riders are preparing to jump /between/ to the island. L’yst of blue Woreth, the Weyrlingmaster, is among this group. With him he has brought some of the young Weyrlings from Telgar Weyr. All safely make it to the island.
The large group, led now by Maram and R’enh arrive and settle on their island for the night. Chalarath picks up a trace of a whisper of Tael’s Gold Ralianth, but they cannot place her from their current distance. After some much needed sleep, many, though still weary, are prepared for the journey that still awaits them.
It is during this night that Chloe of Green Aloranth, the rider that Tobias helped back on the beaches of Benden, is overcome by some of the losses. Seeing her from a distance, Tobias goes to her side to help. As the two talk of their losses and more, a connection between them seems to develop. Chloe, who seems attracted to the tanner, tries to explain to him the way of riders. With that knowledge at hand, Tobias, who also seems to be feeling some attraction for her, chooses to pursue whatever may come. The two share the night with each other. When morning comes, they decide to see where this attraction may lead.
After a brief respite, Maram awakes to see about helping the others as best as she can. R’enh who is near exhaustion from his efforts tries to catch up on his sleep. While touring the camp, Maram is met by Alira, a Journeywoman Healer. Alira shares with the Weyrwoman information on the injuries, and Maram promises the girl that they will find as many able hands as possible to help the injured.
When R’enh awakens, he notices Chalarath’s color and immediately goes to find Maram. They discuss what they both know is inevitable. Chalarath will rise soon. They fear it may happen before they can find a safe place. Knowing that time is of the essence, Maram and R’enh lead all the able-bodies souls on a journey of island-hopping in the hopes of reaching the large land that has been rumored to exist.
Nerystimon, daughter of the now deceased Lord Holder of Lemos, is struggling with her losses, as is Leatherell, brother to Alira, and a Journeyman Harper. Leatherell awakes from a nightmare in shock and unable to stop himself from doing harm. Thankfully, Ceinwen, a Journeywoman Healer, intervenes to help him. The two remained behind for a bit as most of the others set off on the long journey to their new home.
Brekkarial, an apprentice weaver, spends some of her time trying to weave new cloth, but soon must put her tasks aside as she mounts a blue dragon to set off for their new home.
As the group starts their island-hopping journey, they suddenly find themselves face to face with
more dragons. They have found D’vin’s group from Ista. The former rider has done all he can to care for the ill Weyrwoman and her dragon, but his is near exhaustion himself. After proving themselves to him, R’enh and Maram are able to speak with him and check on the condition of Tael. The Weyrwoman remains alive, but comatose. After their long journey, everyone settles down for a rest before continuing onward.
While stopping to rest, Ceinwen treats Leatherell’s injuries and Nerystimon, who manages to trip and hurt her hand, is aided by Tiball, a young boy who has joined this group looking for adventure. His suggestions and their short conversation help her to bandage her hand before the night is over.
Meanwhile, a group of riders is sent out from the first island to try and reach the Southern Continent and search for useable resources as well as check for danger. The group, consisting of T’nev, B’lor, L’yst, and Z’ris of Blue Kardenzoth, find something much more interesting when they reach the island. Tiny miniature dragons!! None of them have seen the little creatures before, and they all, dragons included, find them fascinating. Most amazing of all is that they find a fairly new clutch of eggs laid by a little queen firelizard. Deciding they must show these to the others, the exploration group takes just a few of the eggs with them to carry back to meet the others.
Back with the main group, we find them starting yet another morning out amid the islands. As they awake a feeling of importance seems to settle around them all. With everyone suited up and ready to go, they set off on what will turn out to be their last day of flight. For mid-way through the day, they suddenly spot a large mass of land with craggy mountain peaks and so much more.
This is home! Dragon Weyr is born!
