Since I saw that Maram had already started a Favorite Pern Story thread, I thought I'd start one about favorite stories about dragons BESIDES the Pern stories.
So what are your favorite books/short stories/movies related to Dragonkind outside of the Pern books?
(Maybe I'll find some new ones to read!!)

Personally, I love the Inheritance books (Eragon, Eldest and Brisingr so far!) by Christopher Paolini. They are a bit long, but I have enjoyed reading them.

I had really enjoyed the Dragon Pit Series by Jane Yolen (Dragon's Blood, Heart's Blood and A Sending of Dragons)! Haha, that's the only one I can recall right now.

Oh, I've never heard of those ones Z'ris! I'll have to go check them out!
I have a SLEW of favorite dragon related stories, as I've always been fascinated with them. I've read the Paolini books as well Tobias. They are very good.
I also enjoyed: Dragon Rider by Cornelia Funke (It's really more of a young adult book, but it is an easy read and very enjoyable!!)
On the note of EASY, this set of children's books is just downright adorable (I read them to my students during the school year!) My Father's Dragon by Ruth Stiles Gannett and the sequels: Elmer and the Dragon and the Dragons of Blueland.
Years ago I read a story that was really clever (at least in my book), not sure if you can even buy it anymore:
Dragon Companion by Don Callender. It's about a librarian from our modern world who manages to befriend a dragon from another, magical land.
I'm SURE I will think of others!!
On the note of movies (since you mentioned them), I have two favorites:
DragonHeart (Dragonheart 2 was only alright, I preferred the original)
My all time favorite dragon movie which is VERY hard to find is called Dragon World. I just love the story.

I like the Dragon Pit books as well!
The book that first started me on liking dragons was Jeremy Thatcher, Dragon Hatcher by Bruce Coville. It's a children's book but I think the story could be enjoyed by anyone, especially if you like dragons.
The Dragon Chronicles by Susan Fletcher was really good. It's more traditional medieval fantasy, but it has a very strong female lead (yay)!
Elvenbane by Mercedes Lackey and Andre Norton was quite good, however I would recommend that you only read the first two books (Elvenbane and Elvenblood). The third book gets weird and not so good, and the fourth book was never published because of Norton's death.
I've heard that the Joust series by Mercedes Lackey is good too, but I've never read it.

I really enjoyed the Dragon Prince and Dragon Star Trilogies by Melanie Rawn. Although the stories themselves do not focus on the dragons, it is still and epic and well written story.
