[Event] Weyrling Class 3 of 6Indroduction Each class is mandatory for the weyrling to graduate to Senior Weyrling. There will be a new thread for each class and your Weyrling pair should attend each one. These are Event threads so you may be in another thread during class. Please be sure to post in every thread in order to graduate. This lesson will cover what your weyrling would learn in months 7-9 3. Flying as a pair, Aerial Formations, Visualizing, /Between/“This month class we will begin with some basic drills in the air. Your dragon is growing so daily checks of your straps before each class.” “The larger colors will begin Elevator Duty. This means that you will be providing rids to anyone who needs to get to the higher weyrs. You will also lift them back down. Each of you will have a specific shift at which time you’ll be on duty.” “You may take your lifemates to hunt just outside the weyr but you must go in pairs or with an instructor. “Alright people.” He said. “Lets get mounted up and out into the weyr bowl today we begin visualizing various points in the weyr. And THEN you all get to pick out your new weyrs.” He turned to Ceinwen. “You and Brekka will be housed in the Jr. Queen’s quarters.”

A'sh entered the class with a hearty laugh. For Securth was trying to make him laugh more and more by telling him all the jokes he had learned from other dragons. Today, it was about the last class's color confusion. "Securth, you are a trickster!" A'sh said softly, wrapping one arm around the dragons neck. To his surprise, he could not even fit his arm halfway around his dragons neck. He remembered how small Securth had started out as, and how he had complained about his small stature. Well, he had now proven to be nearly as big as a brown, and bigger then all the blues in his class. He stood tall, his lean form filling out with muscles recently. A'sh couldn't help but smile. "You're growing up too fast." He said softly, almost under his breathe.
His eyes went to the other classmates and he flashed them a smile. "How is everyone?" He asked softly, eyeing the group before him. Some had filed in, some had yet to arrive and some were just getting in. He looked to J'lor, surprised, as he was told to mount up. Quickly, he arranged his dragons riding straps and riding seat, then hopped on.
Securth moved beneath him, and A'sh drew in a quick breathe of air. "Whoa.. easy, Securth." He whispered. Securth flexed his wings, a great rush of air revolved around them. Wordlessly, Securth gave a great flap of his wings and was thrust off the ground. A'sh had barely gotten his saftey strap on and he was in the air. A yelp was heard, and A'sh soon yelled, "Down, Securth.. I don't think we were supposed to fly yet!" Securth turned his head and grunted his disappointment, landing in the Weyr bowl.
A'sh had already visualized his flight routes many times, and again when Securth had glided over the Weyr bowl. A'sh sighed, stroking Securth. "My apologies, J'lor! Securth just got excited..." He then went to visualizing his route, practicing endlessly. But what he was really looking forward to was picking out a weyr hold.

Post by Brekka and Panitath on Oct 20, 2010 21:19:57 GMT -5
Her beautiful girl had been gliding around the Weyrbowl now for awhile her silver hide glowed in the sunlight. Pern had never seen the like of Panitath before.
She was getting close to the size of a small green and showed no signs of slowing down. Brekka had trotted out of the kitchens where she'd been baking pies while Panitath waited outside. But then the call came forth and Panitath told her that Tonuth had called for class.
She removed her apron and smoothed her hair back behind her ears where it had fallen out of her braid. Across the weyrbowl she went calling to Panitath who landed and followed her toward the classroom.
She arrived to hear the instructions and had made a habit of checking her riding straps every day just for this very event. "We finally get to fly together sweetheart" she said. She waved back at A'sh with a smile. Her crooning lifemate was as excited by the prospect as she was.
I've been practicing for this so my wings are strong, I'll not drop you mine.
Brekka checked her harness and then mounted with Panitaths help. Finally seated on the silver beauty she felt wonderful and wanted to be airborne but instead waited for J'lor and Tonuth to tell them it was time. They trotted out into the bowl instead and Panitath stretched her wings and gave voice to her joy.

I don't want to.
"Don't want to, what?"
I don't want to 'ferry' people around. It's not right. I'm Bronze. I shouldn't do menial work like that! Serenith declared angrily, his eyes flashing red at J'lor as he ground his right forepaw into the ground. His claws left angry marks on the surface of the stone.
"Well, tough luck. We have got to strengthen your wings more. You want to win flights, don't you?" Oskar asked his Bronze, slapping the dragon's shoulder. Serenith grunted and shifted his stance. Now he ground the other paw into the ground. Maybe.
If he wasn't complaining about one thing, Sere was arguing about another. The overconfident, independent, arrogant, insert word here, Bronze was a handful. O'rion could feel Sere's muslces working beneath the Bronze's hide as he climbed onto the seat made by the leather straps. Serenith was easily the largest dragon here, barring Ceinwen's Gold Drusilith. And, even though it was easier to check the harness while out of it, O'rion checked it while he was in it. It was strong and taut, and Serenith shrugged comfortably and it moved with him.
I will be the best here, except for my Golden sister. Sere said, nodding politely in Drusilith's direction. It was true that he also revered Panitath, but the Bronze realized that he was above Panitath in rank and so needn't bother her with so much frivolity. Besides, L'dron's Heroth seemed to be taking quite a liking in Panitath.
"Of coruse you will, dragon." O'rion stated, again slapping Sere's neck. "Just don't do anything to get us killed."

Nerys and Shymorth arrived to the class in time to heard J'lor's instructions.
"We're finally going to fly today, Shymorth!"
I am ready. I will fly better than all the rest. The beautiful Crimson dragon boasted. Nerys giggled a bit at his boast, but gave his head a quick hug, before she went over her riding straps and made sure everything was in place.
Then, she mounted. Sitting atop the dragon felt like a truly freeing moment. Nerys had changed so much since before her arrival here at Dragon Weyr, sometimes it was hard for her to even recognize herself nowadays!
Thankfully, her hair had grown back in after she'd cut it off during the early days of weyrling training. She'd learned how to tie it up to keep it out of her way, while still keeping it long.
"This is it Shymorth," she breathed, and waited for further instructions.

L'can sat proudly on his dragon's back. Now, it really felt like he was a dragonrider. He had always known it was his right, to fly dragonback, and now it was coming true. He smiled and ran his hand over Tanemoth's bright red hide. Brekka was going to be housed in a Queen's weyr, so did that mean that Tanemoth and Shymorth were like bronzes? L'can didn't think so, since they were too small, but they were still very special.
I can't wait to fly! Tanemoth exclaimed, his eyes whirling faster. He flexed his wings, stretching as he prepared for flight. L'can grinned and looked to J'lor, waiting for the go-ahead to take off.

"I can't wait to fly with you, mine," Cerbanyth said as he waited for L'ryn to get ready for the class. L'ryn wasn't so sure how to take the dragon's excitement. If he got to excited it might end badly. "I know, mine," he said, tying back the long red locks he had refused to cut. he knew if he ever flew in thread - which given the recent fall, didn't seem likely - he'd have to cut it. Or if it startd to be a bother, which so far it hadn't been being. The way he saw it, he it wasn't a problem in his weaving, it wasn't a problem anywhere else.
"Hurry, mine! We don't want to be late!" Cerbanyth insisted. "We havn't been late a single time yet, mine, and I won't start now," was L'ryn's reply. "Still, hurry." L'ryn had to laugh at the dragon's over excited state. "Alright, I'm ready," he said. "Let's go." The pair left the room and headed out to the class meeting place.

Post by Ceinwen and Drusillith on Nov 3, 2010 22:16:24 GMT -5
Drusillith was excited to finally be able to fly with hers perched regally on her back. But she did not voice that to Ceinwen; though the feelings could be felt through their link. Ceinwen had been working in the medicinal garden while Dru sunned herself on a ledge when the call for class came.
Before Ceinwen could brush the dirt from her hands, Dru was already waiting for her. She grinned at her golden queen. It was tempting to tease her eagerness, but Ceinwen had learned that it was much more productive to be silently amused. Vocalizing her enjoyment of these sorst of behaviors only seemed to make Dru enter her prickly sanctimonious state. “Shall we?”
Ceinwen led Drusillith to class and was very pleased to hear that not only would they be able to fly together but that they would be given their own weyr. The candidate barracks had served them well, but Dru was getting to be so large, that even the room they had been given to accommodate her size was getting uncomfortably small.
“Greetings, A’sh,” Ceinwen said to the blue rider as she moved happily around Drusillith to begin her inspection of the harness. Drusillith noticed the polite recognition that she received from Serenith and gave him a gracious nod in return. Once Ceinwen checked everything, she conferred with Drusillith on her comfort, then with Dru’s assistance, she climbed into position on top of her lifemate; a little surprised by the height as she looked down at the rest of the class from her perch.

Post by L'dron and Heroth on Nov 4, 2010 1:09:51 GMT -5
L'dron and Heroth sat silently as they listened to J'lor's directions; rider and dragon mirror images of the other. Both beings sat stock still...half in boredom...half in respect while they silently communicated through their mental bond to one another.
A slightly annoyed tone rang through the bronzerider's mind as Heroth shot a slightly challenging look to his slightly larger brother:
Ldronmine, we will be the fastest pair among my siblings. Serenith is not as muscular as I am, despite however he feels about himself.
'Do not bother yourself with worrying about his ego, dearheart. You are the one with the fire in your soul. We will prove ourselves to the weyr- all in due time.'
L'dron took a moment to close the feeling of astonishment he felt towards himself for giving his lifemate such wise advice beyond his years. Had the Weyr really changed him this much? Or was it this undying love he felt towards Heroth that made the young rider grow quickly into the man he saw himself as now? A baffled look darkened L'dron's face briefly as he reopened his emotions to Heroth, sending a tidal wave of love to the handsome bronze.
~~~
At the order to check their harnesses, L'dron leaped to his feet and ran out of the classroom to the weyrbowl with the rest of the class, Heroth bugling in joy and excitement. Once there, the duo made the necessary adjustments to the ever-tightening leather, since Heroth's neck seemed to be ever-thickening with growing muscle. Once that task was finished, L'dron deftly climbed atop Heroth's neck ridges and the pair, hearts pounding in excitement at the sensation of being so dependent on one another, awaited to hear the call to flight.
Post by R'enh and Mnoranth on Nov 4, 2010 9:37:36 GMT -5
Mnoranth and Chalarath had received the message sent by Tonuth that the weyrlings were taking their first mounted flight this morning.
I wish to see my children launch with theirs. R'enh immediately left his hidework behind and went for his riding straps.
"We'll give them a proper send off my dear," he said with a smile.
He could hear trumpets and croons from the Weyrbowl and dragon heads emerged from various weyrs. The joy of the dragonets and their riders below was infectious and traveling through the entire Weyr. This was an important event.
Soon several more of the bronze and junior queen weyrs would be occupied. They even had drudges moving both Ceinwen and Brekka's things to the corridor behind their new weyrs near the hatching grounds.
Mnoranth had assured him from the beginning that all the dragons agreed Panitath was a queen but while she glimmered silver in the sunlight there was never a hint of gold in her hide. She was certain going to be significantly bigger than a green and was outstripping all but the bronze and gold dragonets.
The two crimsons looked to be keeping pace with the browns or just a little smaller. He'd seen the same size differential in his Zoom compared to Chloe's Dancer. He wondered briefly if they would be finding more firelizard clutches.
His big bronze lifemate was inordinately proud of all of his children and R'enh didn't fault him in the least. He knew he felt the same about his own.
He mounted and together they leaped up into the air above the Weyr and flew across the bowl their shadow passing over the gathering weyrlings. They hovered over the starstones and surveyed the upturned faces as they waited for the launch.
Post by J'lor and Tonuth on Nov 11, 2010 19:10:40 GMT -5
J'lor came out of the classroom and then to each weyrling pair to check their straps. Only an adjustment here and there and spacing changes as he placed them in an arrowhead with himself at the tip and the two queens on either shoulder. The bronzes ranged behind them and then the browns, blues, and greens.
.........^ ......^...^ .....^......^ ...^..........^ ..^.............^
J'lor mounted, and then smiled and had Tonuth take the first leap into the air with the ranks rising behind him. He could hear as the big brown gave the dragons directions to straighten their lines and he nodded. All the drilling on the ground was a great start but they now had to translate it to the air. Going from two dimensions to three was a leap in the right direction.
When they were finally in place he spotted the dragon rider over the star stones. He smiled and they saluted the Weyrleader as the swept past.
Tonuth roared and the first flight of the Cinder Wing took off over the lip of the Weyrbowl.
Post by A'sh and Securth on Nov 22, 2010 15:15:13 GMT -5
"Greetings, A'sh." Said a voice, and as A'sh wheeled around on Securth, he saw the source of the voice. Ceinwen. He sighed... What chance did a blue rider have with a golden one? He looked down at Securth, who was not paying attention to his thoughts.
As A'sh sat on Securth, he realized just how big the blue dragon male had gotten. He was bigger then some of the browns, though not by much. He was also now looking down on the greens. Securth seemed to grumble his approval at his riders notice, tossing his great head up. And then J'lor was in the air, followed by the queens and then the bronzes, browns, and finally, "Up, Securth! It's our turn now." Securth gladly lifted his wings, spreading them and thrusting them against the air. His great legs pushed them off the ground, and they were in the air. Securth was a little unsteady, and at a call to get into the V shaped line, and A'shs cautious guidance, he swerved into the line.
A'sh looked ahead of him, at the browns, bronzes, silver and gold. He flashed a smile at Ceinwen, and since he was slightly to her side, he had confidence she could see it. A feeling of great affection rose in him... But Securth hadn't listened. He had his head turned back to the greens. "Securth, pay attention." Securth grunted and turned back to the front, his disapproval evident. Without having to say it, A'sh knew Securth had been reading his thoughts about Ceinwen. Turning red, he was glad mine couldn't see his face. This was something he'd have to block from him in the future. He could feel Securth trying to listen to his thoughts about her, but A'sh was quick to block them. Instead, he gave a wave to Ceinwen and a hearty yell in his joy of the ride, to all those who wished to listen.
