As dragons burst from between over Dragon Weyr, a large commotion was set into motion. It had been just moments after Orla’s announcement to the Weyr of the discovery of Eralynn and Liirith, and already the unconscious woman was being rushed to the infirmary. Not taking time for the Bluerider to even dismount, one large man took Era into his arms, pushing all those between him and the healers out of his way. There were too few riders, and this particular citizen of the weyr-folk population did not want to see Era and Liirith pass.
So, as fast as he could, this man ran the limp figure of Eralynn into the infirmary, pressing his way through all the stunned watchers. Finding a bed, he gingerly set her down, taking a moment to brush the filthy strands of her light brown hair out of her face before bellowing for help.
“I need a healer for this woman, this Greenrider needs HELP!”, he called out desperately as the Healers around him began to scurry to and fro. Once he was satisfied that she would get the care she desperately needed, he made his departure. He could do no more.
------------------------------
Eralynn needed food and water, but she had no way of telling that to the Healers around her. She was deep within her mind, as her body fought to survive off of the last bit of reserve strength she had. She could hear her dear Liirith in her thoughts, but only subconsciously. There was no way to communicate her love and support back. Only to wait to see what her fate would be.
------------------------------
Liirith burst above Dragon Weyr, and the first thing she did was send out a mental plea to Hers to come back to her.
“Mine! Eramine! Eralynnmine! I need you! Wake up! NOW!!”
For the first time in her 17 turns, the Green did not care about how the blues and browns saw her. She knew her olive-colored hide was a disgrace. But until Eralynn was awake and okay… she had eyes for no other being. Using all the skills she had developed in her many years of training, The dull Green flattened her wings to her sides, going into a steep dive towards where she sensed Hers to be. Diving in and out of the other dragons in the air, Liirith flared her wings out just in time to slow before landing at the entrance to the Infrimary, keening softly in worry as she waited for a response from Era.

Master Healer Garion could tell the woman was undernourished as they carried her in. He ordered one of the apprentices to run to the kitchens for some broth.
If she was that malnourished her stomach wouldn’t be able to take much at first. A good strong broth would give her sustenance and liquids both of which she needed.
A slight fever as the rider laid her on a cot yet he still covered her. He couldn’t be certain she wasn’t injured. Her skin tone was pallid underneath her tan giving her a faded look.
The green dragon crooned to her and tried to stuff herself into the cavern. “Please calm her and tell her to go eat. She’s nothing but skin and bones. Tell her to come back when she’s done and the dragon healer will have a look at her. We’ll take care of hers.”
His hands gently felt her head and neck for anything he might find. Her glands were not swollen so he lifted her eyelids and examined her ears and mouth.
There was no sign of infection. He examined her limbs one at a time and then her abdomen.
The apprentice arrived back quickly with a small cauldron and a cup. The Cauldron was placed on the hearth to keep warm and a portion dipped from it.
Garion began talking to her while the apprentice approached with the mug and a spoon to try and feed the woman.
“Can you hear me?” he asked.

"No, you don't feed fellis to dragons!" Echo growled at the drudge. The drudge shrank back from the force of Echo's anger, probably not even understanding where that anger came from. Echo practically shook with the anger she felt, but she did not lash out, as it was completely unnecessary. Echo's anger, though seemingly directed at the drudge, was actually toward herself. Most people didn't know any better. Echo closed her eyes and breathed deeply. When she opened her eyes she felt better, and she looked back at the drudge and sighed. "Let me tell you this: fellis severely injures dragons, maybe even kills them if you aren't careful."
Wide-eyed, the drudge took the information in and nodded her understanding. Echo let the drudge go and massaged her temples. This was the first time in quite a while that something as horrible as this had happened. She'd heard a Greenrider had been found on the mainlad. Unfortunately, the Greenrider had been found in a serious condition and, from the quickest glance at Healer reports, Echo had seen that her recovery would most likely be slow, if at all. In fact, the other Healers said she might not even make it... Like Taela. The the other many riders who'd died. But Echo vowed that she would try any way possible to heal this rider.
Echo stalked, cat-like, toward the unconscious woman and noticed another Healer already there. The other Healer was a master. Good. The woman would be in good hands. From the outside, Echo heard keening, and was surprised to see a Green dragon nosing her way into the infirmary. The dragon was clearly distressed, and Echo realized her rider would have been just as distressed if her dragon was injured. The DragonHealer wondered just how strong the bond between human and dragon really was.
It was a proven fact that Echo was still bitter at not having Impressed at the last Hatching. But she did not blame herself just as much as she did not blame anyone else. She saw no one to yell at--the dragons just hadn't seen anything in her. There would always be other hatchings. Echo just wondered if she'd be able to Stand again. Mayhaps the normal ages for candidacy would be dropped so more people could stand... So dragons wouldn't die.
Anyway, back to business. The DragonHealer looked back at Eralymn andrealized she could do nothing more with her. So she turned back to the dragon. All traces of anger were gone now that the threat of fellis and dragons were gone. She smiled at the clearly distraught dragon. The dragon's name, Echo remembered, was Liirith. She started from there.
"Liirith. Dear Green, please calm down. If you are distressed, when your rider wakes up, your emotions may further hurt her." echo declared, voice soft and soothing as she moved toward Liirith with a calm gait. This reminded her of K'vys and his Brown, Oneth. K'vys had gotten better... Would Eralynn?
"I want try to help Yours, and by helping Yours I need to help you. Yours is also being helped by another Healer right now. She would probably feel better if you don't feel pain anywhere. Will you let me help you?" Echo sincerely hoped that Liirith would be as understanding as Oneth had been. Then everything would be just fine.

"Liirith. Dear Green, please calm down. If you are distressed, when your rider wakes up, your emotions may further hurt her. I want try to help Yours, and by helping Yours I need to help you. Yours is also being helped by another Healer right now. She would probably feel better if you don't feel pain anywhere. Will you let me help you?"
Deep purple eyes focused on this new woman, reasoning with her in an attempt to calm her down. Head swiveling once more to her Eralynn, Liirith emitted one last keen, full of sadness, strength, and hope for Hers. Never before had Liirith agreed to leave the side of her rider so easily…but Sivarith’s words hung sharply in her mind. She needed to cooperate in order to ensure that Hers would come back to her.
Come back, Eramine. I love you!
As the green sent that last thought to hers before she turned away from the infirmary, a tinge of grey swirled across the dragon’s eyes, showing the world the emotional pain she was going through. She then returned to the weyrbowl, lying down to allow this woman to inspect her. Knowing that she was probably interested in the newly healed rip, Liirith extended the former near-luminescent emerald wing fully for inspection, her eyes trained on Echo as she waited for the Dragon Healer to approach. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Why was the world soft? Where had all the sand and grime gone??? And what was encompassing her entire body? Had she been swallowed whole by some strange coastal monster?
But there were voices!!
Slowly, the world came into focus as Eralynn opened her eyes; the center of her field of vision clearing before the black on the edges vanished moments later. There was a man hovering above her, watching her intently. Wait…he wasn’t just a man…he had the knots of a masterhealer! Her look of confusion spread into a look of relief as she realized that she and Liirith had finally been rescued. Too weary to do much else, she allowed her head to fall back deeper into the pillows as she waited for the healer to do his work.
'Beautiful Liirith, we’ve made it!' she sent over their mental link. Rather than getting a mental response in words, Era felt a wave of joy and love, and heard the most triumphant dragon bugle sound from outside the infirmary cavern. Everything was going to be alright.

"No, you don't feed fellis to dragons!" he heard from the entrance and looked up. The drudge being reprimanded was new to the infirmary and probably hadn't been given the needed instruction yet. "Let me tell you this: fellis severely injures dragons, maybe even kills them if you aren't careful."
He'd seen Echo's pain when she failed to impress though he didn't try to talk to her about it, she'd get over it and try again. That’s what the weyrfolk did. She had another couple of years before she aged out of Standing. In his opinion she was a talented Dragon Healer and could make Master if she focused her attention. No small part of the credit went to her father Oer.
Garion acknowledge her with a lift of his chin as she came toward him his eyes returning immediately to his patient. Eralynn was in poor condition. Her pulse and other indicators were borderline at best when she was brought in, but they had strengthened and he was beginning to believe they would be able to bring her back.
The young dragon healer had been many times involved with patients here and he knew she was fully competent to deal with the distressed green and no longer worried about the dragon trying to force her way into the infirmary to be with her rider.
He tuned out the voices around as he focused to find the least sign of consciousness. She needed nourishment and contact with her dragon before he gave her any fellis. He was holding her hand when she started to come back. He felt the twitch of her fingers, then saw other movement before she opened her eyes. He saw them start to glaze again but then heard the green give voice to her joy outside the cave. He nodded and smiled gently down.
"You're safe Eralynn, and there is a healer with Liirith too. You’ve been through quite an ordeal and we need to get you healthy," he said softly.
"Are you hurting anywhere?" he wanted to make sure there wasn't anything he'd missed.

The Green let her look at her wing. Well, it was a start, and at least Echo knew she hadn't fully lost her touch. In the first couple days after the Hatching, Echo hadn't felt like doing anything. She hadn't realized just how degrading it was to be left standing. But she was fine now. She was fine now.
Like Liirith watched the DragonHealer, so Echo watched the Green with wary eyes as she moved toward the cut wing. She was working on the wing (adding redwort and whatnot, as well as checking for swelling and other injuries) when Liirith bugled happiness. Echo jumped away from her wing and body just in case the Green moved, but the Green was a good girl and had barely moved a muscle in her wing, thus leaving the wing barely an inch from where it had been before.
When she finished applying the redwort, she patted the dragon's large leg. "Congratulations, Liirith. You've kept the wing nicely healing, and all I had to do was make sure there was no swelling."
She capped her redwort then returned to the inside of the Infirmary, stopping by Eralynn's cotside. She looked at the woman and all of a sudden had a horrid sense of nostalgia, as if she'd seen the woman before. She looked incredibly like her mother, and, awake, Echo had to do a double-take. But her smile was easy-going as she said, "Good day, Greenrider. Your Green had a slight tear in her wing. I patched that up and she'll soon be fighting fit again."

"You're safe Eralynn, and there is a healer with Liirith too. You’ve been through quite an ordeal and we need to get you healthy. Are you hurting anywhere?"
They had finally been found! All those months of having to nurse themselves and their sustained wounds…they were over! ’Oh, Liirith! You can get back to your most beautiful self! And we will fly once more together soon!’ Eralynn thought silently to her dear Liirith, along with a well of relief and joy. How great it was to know that the others had escaped. And to finally be in the stronghold preventing all of human and dragon-kind from perishing off of Pern.
Eralynn allowed a weary smile to spread over her still ash-covered face. Taking a deep breath, she closed her eyes and prepared herself for the vocal examination. After a few moments had passed, the thirty-two-turn old woman opened her eyes and stretched out her left forearm so the Masterhealer could see.
“This forearm was broken in the event that caused us to become separated.” She paused for a moment for another breath, as her voice was very hoarse and feeble. “It has since healed… but could you make sure it’s okay? I used all the training I had to try and help it on my own… but I’m not sure how much it helped with my lack of real food…” her voice became downcast as the memories from the last few months surfaced, dancing across her mind once more.
Eramine, you did the best you could. Do not be hard on yourself!
Era smiled in response to her lifemate’s affection. Wanting to explain her reaction, she mentioned Liirith’s encouragement to the Masterhealer. “Apparently Liirith believes I am being too hard on myself.” She said, her dry voice as rueful as it was possible to be. Her attention then moved to the young woman who approached, giving good news about her Liirith.
She was very good, Mine. I like this one.
Smiling the best she could in her state, Eralynn nodded her head slightly in acknowledgement. “Thank you, Dragon Healer. Liirith is telling me now that she has taken a liking to you…and that you were excellent. I’m not sure if I can even express how grateful I am for this. Can I have your name?”

Echo didn't exactly know what the woman would take of her staring at her. Fortunately, the woman seemed out of it enough to not even bother to notice. At least there was nothing wholly wrong with her, the woman Echo meant. And her dragon, too. For a creature who had not been around anyone or anything for a while and for having sustained injuries due to the meteors, Liirith was practically as good as new. Eralynn had been lucky, Echo realized. If her dragon had died... if her dragon had died then she might not have woken up. Maybe that's what had happened to Tael; she had thought her dragon had died and so never woke up from her slumber. It was horrifying to think about, but it was life.
Eralynn spoke to her about her dragon's injuries. With a slight nod of her head, Echo took everything in as if it were her duty. It was her duty to make sure dragons were healed. That Liirith had taken a liking to her was even better, and that Era was grateful to her when all she did was made sure Liirith could one day fly again with little pain where the wing had torn was extra. Except, every time she heard compliments, her heart soared because she knew she had done something.
"Yes, ma'am. Thank you, Rider. My name is Echo; I am the DragonHealer here." Echo said, nodding her introductions at the Greenrider. Still, Eralynn seemed strange. Like Echo had seen her before. Maybe at the old Weyrs? With a slight shake of her head, she realized that it wasn't too hard to ask a simple question. "Greenrider Eralynn, what Old Weyr did you hail from?"

She held out her arm for his examination. He washed his hands before his fingers ran expertly over the bones probing and twisting. It hadn’t been set perfectly he could tell. Nevertheless a decent job.
“Here?” he asked as he felt the lump of the fused bone.
There would be no way to fix it without rebreaking the arm. After so much time had passed that would be less than optimum. He tested the range of motion and it seemed to work as intended.
“I wouldn’t be tossing any firestone sacks with that arm right away.” He said “In fact, you’ll be flying Queen’s wing once that dragon of yours is fit, for at least the next three months.”
“Apparently Liirith believes I am being too hard on myself.” with that the corner of his mouth lifted. “You are,” he said “It’s an incredible feat that you both survived.”
Then young Echo came in the women started talking of her dragon. He smiled and moved to talk to an apprentice.
“Liquids for three days,” he said “and then she can take soft foods if she tolerates that well.” He started to walk away then he turned back, “check with the beastcrafters to make sure that dragon feeds as much as she wants.”
He went back to the bedside.

Out by the lake a girl had been wandering.. She was circling the lake, flinching often, and reaching down into the water as if trying to drink it. She undoubtedly failed and after a short time collapsed. Which lead to this.. the event that was loud and disturbing.
"Get her in here!" Yelled a person. Another yelled. "I got her! She's light as sand this girl!" A third replied behind him, "Shards, she's skinny! Look at those bones!" The first man yelled, "This'll take more then just healing. She needs food. Quick, go get her something to eat. And drink. The freshest water! Only the freshest water!" A quick nod that was barely seen was given, before one man darted off at a out right run towards the lake. "She won't last... " The second man said, who was carrying her. "She's half gone as it is."
The girl was young... Her eyes sunken.. her usually puffy cheeks sunken to the bone. Her ribs clearly showed beneath her thin night gown and pink pants with various odd markings on it. Her body was so thin that she was shaking, despite her unconcious state. Slowly, her eyes opened and a heart wrenching scream roused the man, who nearly dropped her. Instead, he put her down gently and said. "Quick, this girl needs the best work you can give. She's only.. A few turns.. Maybe six or seven turns at the most!" The girl, whose scream was from agony rather then pain, looked around herself. "Daddy.. mommy...! Daddy.. mommy!" She repeated over and over. "DADDY! MOMMY!" She screamed. "I want mommy.. I want daddy..." And with that she started to cry unconrotollably hard, just from being amongst all these strangers and in this strange place, with no one that she knew.
Then she started to clutch her leg, screaming as she touched it. One must figure she hurt it in the shipwreck, if they even know of a shipwreck. "My footie hurts..." She whined. Then she finally calmed just enough for the man to come back in with food. "Eat." He said harshly, then the men left. Feeling more alone then ever, Rosalora cried once more.

Garion saw them bring in the tiny girl and immediately went to the side of her bed. He shook his head at the men who dropped her off and waived the man off who had brought food.
“You never give a starving person solid food! Take it away.” He got a mug and dipped some of the broth from the cauldron warming by the fire that had been brought for the greenrider.
He held it to his face to make sure it wasn’t too hot then let the girl have a sip.
“That’s a good girl” he said “Now let me check your leg ok?” his hands gently touched to bones above her knee and started down the leg. He could tell there was swelling in one area and stopped.
Then he slathered redwart over his hands and dipped into the numbweed to apply the painkiller to her leg. “I’m sorry I don’t know where your parents are honey.” He gently straightened the leg then with a sharp tug sent the bone. Immediately after that he sent for the headwoman. They were going to need someone to sit with the girl until her parents were found or a fosterer was assigned.
The splint went in place easily stabilizing her leg so it would heal properly. Once he’d washed his hands and smoothed her hair back from her forehead.
“What is your name sweetheart?”

She heard him yell at the men and trembled just a little, unsure of this man before her. Her brown optics went to his face, then to the faces of the others. She could feel the tears in her eyes, and before long she was crying, near uncontrollably, "I want my mommy.. my daddy... my teddy bear... a blankie... my mommy.. my daddy..."
The little girl trembled in pain. He touched her leg and she screamed in more pain. "No touchie!" She scolded.. She looked upset, as any child would be. "Mommy was on a big boat.. boat went boom..." She wiped her tears and sniffled, "Mommy calls me Rosalora when I be bad... but she calls me Rosie a lot." Her brown optics went to his, and she trembled a little. Perhaps out of fear, perhaps out of coldness... One could not tell. He smoothed her forehead and she pulled back.
"Mommy says never talk to strangers." She said, "You a stranger." She looked at him and cried again, "Mommy'll be mad.. I talked to stranger!" She buried her face in her hands, her face turning red.
She seemed to realize something, her tears ceasing for a moment. She looked up at the man and gave puppy eyes without realizing it. Then her eyes glazed over with something similar to grief... "Mommy never coming back...? Is she?" She asked, her mouth slightly agape as she stared at the man. A frown hit her lips and she sniffled. And with that she cried, whining,"I want mommy..."

While the healer examined her, he found the exact location of the break in her arm, instructing her to go easy on herself in the near future. He also gave her the news that she would be fighting in the Queens wing for the next few weeks. What an unexpected honor! ‘We’ll get to dash in-and-out of the giant Queens, Liirith: and show them how flaming dragons fight!’
They have another thing coming, Mine. They’ll be very well protected.
‘That I have no doubt, love.'
Era’s attention was then directed away from Liirith and back into the world around her with the response from the Dragon Healer. "Yes, ma'am. Thank you, Rider. My name is Echo; I am the DragonHealer here. Greenrider Eralynn, what Old Weyr did you hail from?"
Eralynn’s head was beginning to spin slightly from all the commotion from a new patient, this one a child. Even in her weakened state though, her heart went out to the poor baby that was in distress. But the noise…how it hurt her head so! She moved a limp arm so her hand was able to press down on her temple, alleviating a great deal of the pain. Squeezing her eyes shut, she tried to block out the crying from her senses… something a healthy Era would have never done. She loved children! It was only due to the fact that she could barely move that she hadn’t ran to the little girl, sweeping her up in a great hug in an attempt to soothe the child. But it was what it was… and in this reality, Era could do no such thing at the moment. So instead, she opened her eyes and focused on the DragonHealer.
“Please…there is no need for you to be so stiff and formal. I barely have the strength for it anyway. Call me either Eralynn or Era; whichever you’re more comfortable with” She ended the statement with a smile before continuing. “It’s a pleasure to have you looking after my Liirith, Echo. I can’t imagine more capable hands. Liirith and I came from Benden. We had been following Sorelle and R’enh when a meteorite fell from the sky, striking Liirith in her wing membrane…which forced us to land not-so-gracefully, and was the event that caused my broken arm.”
A healer-assistant then came to her bedside, bringing a tray of steaming hot Klah and broth. She sat up as the tray was placed on her lap and began to sip some klah as she continued the conversation, looking back to Echo. Eralynn’s eyes then turned hopeful, begging Echo for an answer. “Tell me…did they make it here? Or Chloe of Green Alorath?” she began tearing up as she realized she longed to hear good news so much.

The request from Master Garion reached Xanthe in the storage rooms. She had been spend a significant amount of her time down in the lower caverns. Something was not right and she was concerned. She needed more information, however, before she could bring it to the Weyrwoman. She didn’t want to cause Lady Maram any alarm until she knew more.
At this moment, the issue of a young girl took precedence and Xanthe quickly made her way to the Infirmary. Before she even made it to the door, the whining protests of a young girl were clearly audible from the hall.
Xanthe wove her way around the room to stand beside Master Garion. She gave him an understanding and reassuring smile and then crouched down in front of the young girl. Tipping her head to the side, she regarded the youngling with a curious smile. “Who is your little friend, Master Garion?”

A woman came up and asked if this was his little friend. She pouted, giving her a look of all looks, that seemed to say Why are you so smug? I'm not your friend. Then she said with incredible passion , "No. No friend!"
The young girl was unhealthy. The splint did little to help her leg yet. She was still just skin and bones, and one must realize it would take time before she would be fully healthy.
"Today mommy says is my birthing day. I be.. one.. two.. three.. four... F-five... six? No wait.. Seven." She said with a delighted smile. "Me did it! I counted my birthing day!" She smiled and looked at them... She had been there maybe a few weeks, trying to heal.. It wss doing little good for her physically, but mentally her spirits were high.
"Me wish mommy were here..." She said, then added a little more cheerfully, "... But...I got me friend." She looked up at Garion with softness. She closed her eyes. Soon a vague memory entered her mind.. so distant.. so subtle..that she wasn't sure if it was a dream or a memory...
"I want you gone, J'lor!" Screamed a woman. "Daddy..." The girl cried, the tears running down her cheeks, which were rabid with color. "No go... No.. you don't go! See.. me can talk okay! I be good! I be better!" She looked up at him and tugged on his leg, clinging to it. "No! No go!" She screamed as her mother pulled him off of her. He left. She thought she saw tears in his eyes, but was too young to understand what tears were. Tears overwhelmed her, she felt at a loss...
She felt like he was abandoning her again, that it was happening all over again, the overwhelming feeling of grief and anger came over her. Why? Why had he left? Or was it just a dream? Shortly after she realized she was crying.. "Daddy.. " She murmered softly, wiping her tears. She closed her eyes, trying to shut off the dream.... Or was it a memory?
