Ceinwen entered the newly restored Great Hall of their new home now named Dragon Hold. She had been amazed by what the Smith crafters had accomplished in the short months since they had found this location. They were a testament to their craft and now the holders had a hall once again to gather in for meals and other important occasions.
It was still rather early in the morning and the hall was rather empty with most of the inhabitants still asleep. Ceinwen went into the buttery but did not see any servants about so she poured herself some klah that had been set out in a samovar on one of the sideboards. As she turned to make her way to one of the empty tables in the hall, she crossed paths with a kitchen drudge who asked if she wished to have some breakfast. Ceinwen thanked her and was told that the young girl would be back in a moment with a hot meal from the kitchen.
Ceinwen walked back into the hall and took a moment to examine all the changes. The place that had been in disrepair and completely covered in grime was now pristinely clean and wonderfully appointed. They were fortunate that the prior inhabitants had left behind their furnishings. But she could see that the Wood crafters had been hard at work. They had crafted a lovely table for the dais and two beautifully carved chairs for the Lord Holder and his Lady. She could not believe how much had been accomplished over the course of the past three months.
Shortly after she took a seat the kitchen drudge reappeared with a plate of hot food: eggs, sausage, sautéed potatoes, grilled tomatoes and toast. She was thrilled by the wonderful smells and hearty portions afforded her and quickly snatched up her knife and fork to begin to consume the feast before her.

It had been 3 and a half months since Leo first awoke, without memory, without nothing but odd scar on his hand and the necklace that said 'Leo', a name he had come to accept as his name. Though he honestly had no idea if it really was his name, D'vin words had been rather empty. He hadn't been able to find anyone he had known, not one person recognized him.
The important thing was that he believed it, and had accepted this curse. There had been a horrible catastrophe and something happened for him to lose his memory, all he wanted to know was why and how, maybe he had been walking and tripped over? How humiliating would that be if that was the case?
Leo shook his head as he walked carefully through the Hold, his eyes still getting used to the wondrous work those craftsman people did. He had been told that had probably had been one himself and that was certainly another mystery. What had he been? Maybe he was chef or a one of those glass craftsman.
He wished he would have some kind of memory flash, like the healers said that he would probably have but thus far, he had no such flash. Then again, one stray flash wouldn't give him his memory, it would probably just be something like him walking, like he was doing now.
Walking alone, probably.
Leo came to stop outside the Great Hall, admiring the structure as he contemplated going inside, this was where the food was, right? Leo made a face as he tried to remember exactly what the Great Hall was for, he knew it was something to do with Craftsman or was that some other building?
Taking a breath of air Leo stepped into the building, awed by the internal beauty for a moment until his eyes rested on a single person. Was it usually this quiet in here? With such a name he would have thought it to be packed.
He suddenly felt rather self conscious of himself, him standing in the entrance and just dumbly looking around, as if he didn't where he was which was true to a point. Maybe he should turn around but his stomach instantly grumbled in response, no doubt already feeling the alluring smell of what he was sure was delicious food.
Speaking of food, where was it?
Great.

The meal that had been prepared for her was simply delectable. She had to remind herself not to eat too quickly or she would most definitely give herself a stomach ache. Taking a break from her food, she picked up her mug of klah and lifted it to her lips, pausing to take a moment to enjoy the wonderful aroma. She closed her eyes momentarily and inhaled deeply, enjoying the comforting and pleasing scent that wafted up from the cup. A little smile crept across her lips as she took a sip of the hot liquid. “What a great morning,” she said to herself.
As she set her mug down on the table, she happened to spot a figure standing in the entrance way. Ceinwen glanced over to see who it might be and did a double take. Her eyes widened in surprise. ‘Could it be,’ she asked herself. She watched him a moment longer just to be certain, before pushing away from the table and moving in his direction. Once she got a bit closer to him she was certain and a huge grin spread across. She broke into a little run as she rushed to his side, stopping just in front of him to look up into his eyes and then wrapping her arms around him in an enormous hug. “Leo! I can’t believe it’s you,” she said happily as little tears of joy began to stream down her cheeks.

Leo was thinking of asking the lone woman at the table about the food when she suddenly got up and was making her way towards him. He was sure she wasn't leaving, her food was still there but then, what? Leo's whole body tensed as he watched the woman break into a run.
Was she going to tackle him? And then in a flash he was engulfed in a powerful hug, the touch sending a paralyzing shock throughout his body, her words adding to that. Leo? So it was his name? And someone did know him!
Leo's lips quirked into a smile, quickly morphing to a grin as the he hugged the woman back, feeling the happiest he had felt since he had woke up. He wasn't alone though then it dawned on him, he didn't even know this woman or maybe he did?
Leo cleared his throat as he raised his arms and gently placed them on the young woman's, easing them away from him as he looked at her. She was young, probably 20 or even 18. The thought of her age suddenly spurred that own question for himself.
How old was he?
"Uh, Hi..." Leo said wondering what to say since she clearly knew him and he right now, did not. "Do you know me?" Leo asked hesitantly, already regretting the question.

It was wonderful to be hugged by someone familiar after being separated from all those she had held dear for so many months. His embrace warmed her heart and reminded her of home and an easier time. He pulled back and she lessened her hold on him to look up into his handsome face with an affable smile. She gazed deeply into his eyes, taking a moment to study his face and burn his countenance once again into her memory. It had been a season since they last saw each other and she noticed some subtle differences. Likely due to the stresses he had encountered during the volcanic blast that had decimated their home.
"Uh, Hi... Do you know me?"
Ceinwen snickered at his comment and gave him a playful push. “Better than you know yourself,” she teased. But then she noticed the look in his eye and paused, a look of concern coming to her face. “You’re not joking…” she said is a hushed tone, barely audible to herself. She swallowed hard as she looked at the expression on his face. No words came to her mind. She was stunned and had no idea what to say or ask. In an attempt to at least reassure herself, if not him, she reached out and took his hand in her own and gave it a reassuring squeeze. There was a pregnant pause where she stood looking into his eyes and saw that the orbs that gazed back did not reflect the recognition that was once present.
“You must be hungry,” she said thinking in practical terms. Releasing his hand she turned and motioned to one of the drudges and pantomimed a request for another plate and mug for her friend. Then turning back to the man she knew to be Leo she asked, “Would you be so kind as to join me for breakfast?”

Despite the play in her voice Leo wished her words were at least half true but those thoughts quickly went away as he watched her reaction and coming to a realization. She was a sharp girl he noted. Leo hadn't considered how one of his friends would feel, if he had ever found one and now he wished he could have walked out of here a little faster.
What was he supposed to say? 'I have no memory so could you give my life story?' He was definitely not going to say that and then he found that his hand in her warm grip, he glanced at her hand and then back to her eyes, feeling more silly than ever.
“Would you be so kind as to join me for breakfast?”
Leo offered a small smile before nodding, "Sure."

Ceinwen was glad that he agreed to eat a meal with her. She still had no idea what to say, but at least he wasn’t running off. That gave her some time to formulate a coherent thought. Leading him back to the table, she motioned to the seat beside her and then sat herself down. It was difficult not to stare at him. The desire to study the face of her friend and take joy in their reunion was at the forefront of her mind. But if he truly did not remember her, he may very well take her looks to mean she was entranced by the oddity of his situation and not out of the genuine kinship she felt for him.
Before she could speak, the young woman returned with food and a hot mug of klah for Leo. Ceinwen took the food from her hands and placed it in front of him, then grabbed the napkin and placed it in his lap. Out of habit, she dropped three lumps of sugar into his klah and added a little cream and began to stir it. Then suddenly she stopped, her face turning pink in embarrassment. “Sorry…” she said softly as she stared into her lap. “Habit.” She slowly looked up at him with an apologetic look and then decided she should probably give him a little more explanation. “I used to fix you klah for you when we dined, while you sliced the meat,” she looked off a bit as she recalled the argument he had given her the first time they engaged in the little ritual. “You said that a blade in my hands was more dangerous than falling thread.” Ceinwen laughed in fond memory. He had always loved to tease her. “My compromise was to fix your klah in exchange for you saving my fingers from my own clumsiness.”

Leo followed Ceinwen to the table and sat down, his insides already feeling a tad uncomfortable from the situation which only intensified when Ceinwen began a serving to his klah. Leo wasn't sure what to do and he really wasn't sure when as she apologized ever so quietly. He was about to say that it was okay when he heard the word 'habit' and then he understood, sort of.
It made sense as to what she was doing, but not why and thankfully Leo didn't have to ask as she launched into a little memory lane tale that he would have known already, if only he could remember. Leo replayed her words in his mind, every word becoming an idea or clue to something more about him.
So this little ritual they had formed, where did it stem from? Even friends didn't make do that sort of thing half the time. We must have been good friends then, Leo thought to himself, his heart quenching in guilt.
"I see," Leo said for a moment as he continued to think on the little tale for a moment before smiling at her. With his left hand Leo reached out and gently took Ceinwen's plate between his fingers and then turned it so that the sausages were closer to him, grabbing the cutlery Leo proceeded with cutting the sausages hoping that this might have been something he would have done.
As he cut the sausages Leo couldn't help but feel a sort of deja vu feeling but not from something he saw but how he felt as his hands wielded the fork and knife. Leo was almost puzzled by the quick efficiency of such a minor task.
Once the sausages were cut, Leo placed the cutlery back where they were, "No need to break tradition." He said as he looked at the mug of klah and took a tiny sip, the sweet liquid flavor sending a dance routine into his test buds.
"Whoa." Leo muttered as he stared at the mug, now that was some good klah!

”I see.” That was all he said and Ceinwen felt her heart plummet down into her stomach. She was making a fool of herself… What could she do or say to him in a situation like this? The panic began to set in as she felt her anxiety well up once again. Then he smiled. That sunny smile she remembered. Suddenly, she felt so much better. When he took her plate and sliced her sausages she bit the inside of her cheek and grinned. It was such a simple gesture, but it meant so much to her that he was willing to give it a try.
"No need to break tradition."
Ceinwen beamed back at him and took up her fork to begin eating once more. She watched him out of the corner of her eye as he picked up his klah and took that first sip.
"Whoa."
Her hand came to her mouth and she covered her smile as she chuckled at his response. She could not help but wonder what the extent of his memory loss was. Did he recall anything? Or was every moment a new experience. She ate silently beside him for a minute or two and at last broke the silence with a simple question. “Leo, what happened?”

Leo tipped his mug slightly to stare the contents of the drink, he had already had Klah before, it was very nice but whatever Ceinwen had done, it had made it exquisite. Leo would have to remember that, how many lumps of sugar was it? Three? Leo shrugged it off, he could try it out later. He raised the mug to his lips but his hand stopped at Ceinwen's sudden question.
“Leo, what happened?”
How was he supposed to know?! Leo placed his mug on the table quickly taking in Ceinwen's knowledge into account which was not much. How was she supposed to know that he remembered... nothing from before.
"I don't know." He said quietly as he looked at his food, flexing his fingers for a moment before taking the cutlery again and cutting his own food before slowly devouring it. "I don't remember anything before... before, the healers said that I must have hit my head pretty hard somehow."
Despite the sweet aroma from the food Leo could feel the food's appeal quickly evaporating as he thought on it. Did he fall? Did he get pushed... did a rock fell from the sky and plonk him on the head? Leo relaxed his hands besides the edges of his plate, the fork and knife hovering over it, held loosely by his fingers.
"Where do I... uh, we...um I mean you live?" It was then he realized that he didn't even know the woman's name. Leo leaned forwards, letting the cutlery hit the plate gently as his elbows rested on the table where his right hand cradled his forehead.
Why him? Why now? Why must he ask why?

Ceinwen was in a state of dismay and guilt at the news that Leo had no memory of his past and that she had not been one of the healers to assist him. Her heart ached for her friend. ‘What must he be going through,’ she asked herself. She had heard stories of people who had taken a bad fall, suffered a traumatic event or a bad head injury and had lost their memory, but that had all been theory and never anything she had personally encountered in a patient. But now, she was here sitting beside her old friend and he was suffering from it.
Taking another bite of food she thought about the current state of affairs and wondered at what she could do for him. She supposed that if he had questions about his life that she would be able to fill in some things for him. Ceinwen picked up her mug and drank deeply, feeling her anxiety creep in. All the variables were spinning in her head and rapidly had her stomach twisted in knots.
"Where do I... uh, we...um I mean you live?"
Ceinwen slowly took a deep breath. ‘One question at a time. No need to panic or rush. Just, one question at a time.’ She could do this. Be there for him and help him find answers to the undeniably madden questions that must be plaguing him.
“I live here, in Dragon Hold. I am a Journeywoman Healer who is specializing in herbalism. My name is Ceinwen.” She was tempted to continue. Tell him about the past. But it was better to follow his pace than to overwhelm him with a flood of information that he may not be able to process.

Yes, Dragon Hold he figured as much. The one person he knew and he 'lived' somewhere else, it had been rather un-weird when they were giving Leo a place to stay in the other Hold area, he like everyone else had been getting suited into their new homes.
Journeyman, that was the second stage of all the craftmans people? He had wondered if he had been one though the people had met said they were confident that he was though the reason why was beyond him.
A healer... Leo wondered what would have happened if she had been there when he had woken up, would he had been more skeptical, quicker to trust and understand? There so many ifs that that to was starting to get on his nerves.
Ifs and Whys! They were maddening!
Leo stared down at his food as if he could magically absorb the food without having to actually eat it. It was more or less silent for a little while before he gave Ceinwen a sidelong glance.
"You," Leo closed his mouth and then looked away, then looked at her, opened his mouth, sealed it and then finally worded something out, "You have a nice name." Leo strained himself not to curse himself at those stupid words.

Ceinwen looked at him a long moment, trying to maintain a serious and understanding countenance but the look on his face and his comment was eating away at her resolved. A smile was tugging at the corners of her mouth and before too long the sudden sound of laughter escaped and filled the air between them. She covered her mouth in an attempt to stifle herself. A sudden pang of guilt struck her and she bit her cheek to get herself to stop.
Giving Leo an apologetic look she said, "I'm sorry..." The look on his face had been priceless. "It was not something I was expecting you to say." The Leo she knew was very comfortable around her. They had known each other for years, so the awkward beginnings of a friendship was not something she had anticipated. Once she regained her composure, she took a deep breath and looked him in the eye. "Thank you for the compliment, Leo. It is very kind of you to say." She hoped that he would see the sincerity in her eyes.
"Are you settled in here," she asked in an attempt to break the ice.

Leo frowned at Ceinwen, confusion evident on his face for a moment though it quickly vanished, his whole jaw locked in place as he watched her laugh. She apologized but Leo said nothing and continued to stare at her before looking away and picking up his fork, taking a jab at his food.
Not something she expected, so he wouldn't have been such a fool to had said such a thing? Leo watched Ceinwen from the corner of his eye, glimpsing her emotional eyes as she 'accepted' the compliment but he pretended to take no heed.
"Are you settled in here,"
"I suppose." Leo answered, his tone steeling itself.

The guilt began to overwhelm her. This was not the same man she knew back at High Reaches. This man seemed lost. Ceinwen wished she could do or say something to help him, but what could she do really? Idol chat. See where that led.
"I know what you mean," she said in response. "The rebuilding process has been challenging for everyone I think. Hard to make a new start." She drank some more of her klah and finished up her eggs and was working on her toast and the little slices of meat that he was so kind as to cut for her. "I've been assisting the Master Healer in setting up the infirmary and started a medicinal garden outside the hold. Hopefully they will be able to have a good stock of supplies by the end of the harvest." Ceinwen drank the last of her klah and motioned to the serving girl for some more and her cup was quickly refilled. "How about you, Leo. Have they set you to work?" She wondered if he was still in the same trade or if he even recalled his training at all.
