Kale sat on the floor of the Hall, cross-legged, and was working to mend a huge section of floor that had begun to crumble. He tried to work quietly, so as not to disturb the others. The room echoed with sound and he knew it had been constructed by someone very skilled and well-versed in acoustics. Every so often, he would look up and stretch his back. During that time, his eyes would travel over the high stone ceiling and he would try to figure out why certain cuts had been made.
For now, though, his eyes were firmly on the floor. Something very heavy had been dropped there, causing the stone to crack and reveal a sandy layer beneath. He would need to cut away the area and replace it with a stone cut just the same size. Not an easy task for an area in the middle of the room. The seams would have to marry perfectly, otherwise the harpers would trip.
And it would be noisy. Kale sighed. Yet another job that would have to be carried out at night, while the harpers slept. Kale began taking measurements as he listened to the sound of a practice session taking place in a far corner. His mouth quirked upward at a failed note and a frustrated groan from the student.

Lilia had been overjoyed when the Harper Hall had been discovered near the newly established Dragon Hold. She had been working there daily since it’s discovery but had recently made her decision to move to the Harper Hall.
Renhick had wanted to stay at the weyr and she could understand that so she left him with a fosterer there. She knew he’d visit but he’d be near his father and she knew he’d have the right to Stand in another few months. 12 was a trying year for a mother. The fosterer’s job was done and the children went off into their crafts, or in this case, he would select a craft with the full intention of becoming a dragon rider.
Of course with his father now the Weyrleader she had a pretty fair idea of why her son wanted to stay at the Weyr and it wasn’t all that far away.
Most of her things had been sent down from the Weyr already so she just needed to move the last of her personal effects. Her bag was slung over her shoulder as she walked into the main hall.
A journeyman was teaching a small group of apprentices in one corner and it looked as though someone was fixing the floor at last.
She approached with a smile. “Thank you for working on our unsightly scar, Miner” she said with a smile. “I’m Lilia”

“Thank you for working on our unsightly scar, Miner. I’m Lilia”
He heard the rustle of her skirt before she spoke. Looking up, he wiped away the sweat from his brow and returned her smile.
"Kale, my Lady," he said.
"I don't know how this happened..." He stood to his full height, then toed the destruction with the tip of his boot. "I always thought you engaged in peaceful pursuits inside this Hall."
The instruction seemed to come to an end in the corner of the room and the pair dispersed quietly. The place seemed... wrong... without music, no matter how badly it was played.
"I may have to do the repairs tonight, unless there is a time when no one will be around." He didn't look forward to pulling yet another all nighter. It was lonely and tiring. Especially with so many people making demands for his time lately.

"Kale, my Lady," she nodded and smiled gently at the miner.
"I don't know how this happened... always thought you engaged in peaceful pursuits inside this Hall." Her eyebrows rose as he unfolded to his full height she could understand why he was a miner, the man was huge and heavily muscled from his work with stone.
She didn't move from where she stood even though she had to turn up her head to look him in the eye. "I'm not sure how it happened either," she said. Then she thought a moment looking at his work so far. "I know there's been some dancing but I doubt that would have caused this." she said with a grin.
"I may have to do the repairs tonight, unless there is a time when no one will be around."
She didn't really see a need for him to do that although she did appreciate the offer. "Oh, I don't think that will be necessary." she knew they were lucky to have him here and didn't want to make it more difficult on him. "I can have the journeymen take their students to other rooms while you work here. We don't have that many students here yet that we really need this hall. It just has marvelous acoustics so they like to practice in here." She looked around to see the others had already gone.

"I know there's been some dancing but I doubt that would have caused this."
He chuckled deeply, a deep bass of a sound. "Only if I were the one dancing," he added.
She then let him know that night work was not necessary and he smiled down at her. To rest tonight! It would be a treat. "I am going to have to find some way to thank you," he said. "You have no idea how many nights I have worked through lately. In fact--"
His head snapped up and he turned toward the entrance. "Excuse me, my Lady," he said. He picked up a large hammer and ran out of the Hall, his large steps echoing throughout the structure.
Outside, the apprentice who had just recently exited was surrounded by a small grouping of boys. Her hair and body were dripping wet, obviously the victim of a dousing. The boys were taunting her, trying to grab at the small practice harp she carried. One of the boys, in particular, seemed to be leading the hazing.
"Tormath," Kale roared. The boys froze as the big man descended upon them. His massive hand grabbed the belt of the lead boy and he hauled him up off of his feet until they were eye to eye. "Was it my imagination," he asked, "that I saw you on the practice field just days ago, not able to complete any of your target practice? So now, you come here, to find a target that you can actually conquer?"
The girl clutched her harp to her chest and lifted her chin.
Kale glanced at her, then back at the boy, "in fact... she has done the opposite, hasn't she? She stood tall while you..." he stopped and counted, "you six needed a gang. I would say she is the victor here." He let loose his grip and Tormath dropped to the ground. "I suggest you go back to your weyrs... all of you... and pray I do not mention this to R'enh." Shocked expressions appeared on all of their faces before they grabbed their belongings and dispersed in different directions.
The miner bowed down to the girl and extended his large hand, "now... let us go get you cleaned up so you don't have to explain what happened to anyone." She smiled at him shyly and took his hand. Kale turned to lead her back into the Hall.

"Only if I were the one dancing,"
She chuckled at the joke at his own expense. But she waved off his thanks even though she could see how happy it made him.
He turned and began going after some bullies she hurried after him not knowing what he planned but her concern proved not to be necessary as he handled the incident quite well.
She bit her bottom lip at his use of R’enh as a threat to the boys and tried hard not to laugh. If they’d even met him they’d all know how little a threat R’enh was to children. He was quite tenderhearted toward his own son, too much so by her opinion at times.
Kale was leading the girl back up the steps as she clutched her harp when she caught a flash of Gold in the sky. Shading her eyes she looked back up to see a gold dragon flying. But not just that… she saw brown and bronze following her higher and higher.
She began to shake as the flush hit her. “Oh fardles” she turned back into the Hall. She called to one of the apprentices, “Flight” she said then she took the girls hand and shooed her off toward her room. Thankfully the young didn’t feel the effects of a gold flight.
She turned back to the big miner trying to maintain but instead she shivered. “Thanks for handling that.” She said and involuntarily took a step closer to him. “uh, there’s a gold flight coming towards us… you might…” she couldn’t finish her thought.

“Flight”
"Really?" Kale turned and looked into the sky. He had never watched a flight. For him to be in the Weyr when it happened, instead of at the mines, was unusual.
“uh, there’s a gold flight coming towards us… you might…”
"What?" He stared at her. There was a look in her eyes that he hadn't seen on a woman for a long time. "Oh," he muttered, then his eyes widened as he simultaneously got the meaning of her words and felt the beginnings of the flightlust. "Oh!" The flight got closer as the big gold made a sharp turn to the right.
He looked down at her as his hand raised up on its own to touch her face. "So this is what it feels like," he stammered, barely able to speak. "I don't-" His voice seemed to leave him. He didn't want to hurt her. She was easily 150 pounds lighter than him and a foot shorter. However, all that flew out of his mind as the pounding wings soared overhead.
He grabbed her by the arm. "Where," he choked out.

”What?, Oh, Oh!” realization dawned and his hand rose to her face.
She felt her own pulse rising and some of her thought fading away. It would swarm back later she knew but a gold threw off very powerful…
"Where," he ground out as he grabbed her.
She raked her eyes around the empty greatroom then spotted the door. “There” she said in a breathless voice and tried to pull him in that direction. Beyond the door was a hall that lead to her quarters.
He was big, more than two hand spans taller and heavily muscled. She pulled him toward the door as the urgency started to work its way through her system.
She had experienced it once with R’enh and knew that soon they would be finding themselves doing something they would probably not have done otherwise.

As her hand touched him to pull him along, Kale took in a quick breath. They passed through a doorway and down a long hall. "Hurry," was all he could think, and his brain repeated it over and over again as a lustful mantra.
When they arrived at another door, they entered. Kale's huge hand swung the door closed, ensuring their privacy. In one fell swoop, he picked her up in his arms and kissed her with an abandonment not known to him. She was beautiful and her eyes told him that she was ready for what they were about to do.
He carried her to the bedroom and tossed her onto the bed, then quickly removed his shirt, exposing his chiseled physique. Soon after, the rest of his clothing joined his shirt on the floor and he headed toward the bed, his breathing rapid and his eyes intense.

Hurry he said as they went down the hall she could feel her body flush with the physical reaction to the gold flight that was making her ready. They got to her room and when the door closed she turned to him and had to look up and up to see his face. He was so big he made her feel like a doll, but that didn’t matter.
He swept her up and the hunger took them. She didn’t want the wild kiss to stop and when he tossed her on the bed she collapsed breathless and burning.
His clothing dropped and she struggled with her dress, almost sobbing in her need to be rid of it. She took in the magnificent musculature resulting from his profession and she couldn’t put her reaction into words, not even in her own head.
He came toward the bed and her breathing increased. Her eyes locked on his. “I can’t get it…” she said breathlessly. “just rip it.”

He stood at the end of the bed as she moved this way and that trying to manage the fasteners on her dress. Every movement was intoxicating, as was her frustration and moaning over her situation.
“I can’t get it… just rip it.”
He grabbed hold of her ankles and slid her toward him until her lower legs hung loose over the edge. With both hands, he took a grip on the fabric at her waist and pulled in opposite directions. The material ripped like old parchment in his hands. He continued pulling here and there until every piece of fabric was gone from her body; it settled to the floor at his feet, dropped with abandon, like leaves at the trunk of a mighty tree.
As his eyes took in the creamy skin, all rational thought left him. He had to have her. He had to taste the flesh, find the ecstasy that was waiting for him. He placed one hand on either side of her and let his body take over from there. In his lust, he didn't care if he was careful or if he was hurting her. All he needed was satisfaction.

Reason fell away with her clothing and she gave in to the dragonlust beating at her. They traveled up the bed in a primal dance which ended for her when she passed out in exhaustion… fulfilled.
~*~
Lilia swam back toward consciousness taking a deep breath. He was at her back with his arm thrown over her. She moved her legs and instantly felt that was a mistake. She hurt in places she didn’t even know she had places.
The man was massive. She could see the bulk of his shoulder just turning her eyes. She didn’t exactly have a complete memory of what had happened but her body was telling her in no uncertain terms that it wasn’t gentle.
Since she’d lived in a Weyr most of her adult life she wasn’t missish about the event but the consequences were a little beyond her expectations.
With a little grunt she pushed his arm off and sat up on the edge of her bed. As the covers fell away she could see the bruising beginning on her arms and chest. “Strong hands” she murmured feeling other places where she was bruised. Ivory skin had its drawbacks.

As his arm fell to the warm, empty space on the bed, Kale grunted then opened his eyes. Her back was to him, her naked flesh exposed to the light. Soft, tousled hair cascaded halfway down her spine. His eyes followed the curve of her waist and he smiled to see the two dimples on either side of her spine, just above the fullness of her--
“Strong hands.”
He saw them, then, the bruising redness across her back and down lower on her body. Her own hands gently touched her flesh and he sat up in the bed.
"I didn't mean to hurt you," he said. He grimaced slightly and he felt his own rump. Scratches. Had she clawed him in ecstasy... or a desire to get away? He examined himself further, finding a bite mark on his left chest.
"I should get back to work," he muttered.
He started to climb out of the bed, only to have it collapse under him, the wood stressed beyond repair during their interlude. He tried to climb out, but he was stuck. Naked, and stuck. He put his large hand over his eyes and shook his head.

She felt the bed move before she heard his voice "I didn't mean to hurt you," she didn’t know if he’d experienced flight lust or not before.
“I know” she said and was going to turn back to him and say something about the residual flight lust that could be handled with another go though perhaps, not quite as energetic.
"I should get back to work," he muttered and she turned to see the scratches on his back and well… she’d certainly gotten a little carried away herself. “Maybe we…” was all she managed before she spilled onto her face on the floor when the bed collapsed.
She giggled as she turned over and sat up to see him sitting with his hand over his eyes and shaking his head.
“Kale,” she said “I’ll be ok… my bed on the other hand.” She crawled over the wreckage of her bed toward him. She touched his back where her fingernails had left welts in his skin.

“Kale... I’ll be ok… my bed on the other hand.”
He pulled his hand away from his eyes as her fingers snaked underneath him and felt at the wounds she had given him. He winced, then smiled, "guess I deserved those," he said. Pushing with both arms, he tried to get up, but his bottom was firmly wedged.
His eyes traced over her naked form appreciatively once again. It was unusual for one in his profession to be with a harper, least of all the Master Harper. It just didn't happen. He was meant to spend his life in the mines, where he would most likely die.
"I'm stuck," he said sheepishly. "So, unless you have other plans, we need to figure out how to get me out of here." He felt awkward, like one of those hard-shelled creatures turned upside down, limbs flailing.
