OOC -- EVERYONE is welcome to come watch the little Flit eggs hatch. Here's how it will work. You may continue posting in your current threads AND post here in the hatching. So that means you may be in two places at once for the duration of the hatching.
If you start a new thread....keep in mind when it is happening....if it is before the dinner hour of the day, the eggs would NOT have hatched. If it is after the dinner hour, the hatching will be taking place or will have already finished.
Maram hurried down the cave-side steps. Chalarath had just informed her that the rider on duty had seen movement. The tiny eggs were going to hatch!
So caught up in her excitement, Maram nearly tripped down the steps. That, however, caused her to slow her pace until she was safely on the floor of the Wery bowl.
Chalarath, let the others know!
Done. Came the reply from their weyr. Chalarath was still resting after her busy morning. She was interested in the little eggs, but not overly so.
Maram reached the hatching sands, felt their warmth beneath her feet. Movement caught her eye. One little egg had moved ever so slightly.
"That one just started twitching like that," the rider who'd been on duty told her as he approached her. "We called you right away."
"Thank you. Others will come. I wonder what will happen when they hatch," Maram murmured. Would they be Impressionable like the dragons? No one knew.

OOC - We will plan to wait until all those who are getting an egg have arrived, however, if someone is holding up the thread for days, we will be forced to move on. All are welcome!!

As soon as Imahyth relayed the message, B'lor hurried down to the sands. He was eager to see what the hatchlings would be like. How closely would they resemble the creatures he had seen in the South? He walked onto the sand not long after Maram did.
"Greetings, Weyrwoman," he said, inclining his head to the Goldrider. Then the formality was gone, replaced by an excited grin. "I can't wait to see what happens," he said, looking over the eggs. He saw one twitch. It was a relief to know that the eggs had survived their journey.
"Oh, you might want to give them some room," he added. "I don't know if these will be different, but the little Gold I saw didn't like humans. That's how I got this." He ran a finger down the scratch on his cheek, which was mostly healed by now. "The angry ones were flaming, too, although I can't imagine how they got firestone." He actually hadn't thought of that until now, but talking about the angry gold brought the memory back.

Echo had been relieved from her infirmary post for the latter half of the day. She had been able to eat after taking care of Oneth, K’vys’ Brown, and was feeling immensely better. She had wandered around by herself for much of her free time, trying to decide what was what without having to ask a rider or someone who knew. It seemed like everything was being cleaned out or moved in. Echo felt like she needed to be helping, but her brain hurt from the previous days. She felt selfish, that’s what she felt.
In the end, however, Echo consoled herself with the realization that she needed at least a little free time, or else she would quickly find herself worse for wear and failing at her job. Just like this morning, when she had tried, and failed, to help K’vys. Ceinwen had set her straight with that, just as she had berated herself, as well. So, after she had made sure Oneth was alright, she set off for food and to find that Bronzerider, R’gant. She found food in what was slowly becoming the kitchens, but did not find R’gant or his Bronze. Her mind said he was avoiding her. She told her mind to shut up and that he wasn’t avoiding her because he didn’t know that she was looking for him.
She had spent the day wandering the empty halls of the Weyr. Well, almost empty except for people bustling about. Seems everyone had something to work on. Echo promised herself she would go straight back to the infirmary after dinner. She promised. But, as dinner rolled around, and for a small while after, when she sat on the rock outside the kitchens eating leftover meats, she realized that she didn’t really want to go back right then. It was a horrible thing to think about, especially since she was the sole Dragonhealer, or so she had heard, but she’d been with the patients for darn near seven days straight.
Echo stood, with a roll and some meat in her hand, done up in a sandwich. Idly, she broke off a piece of the bread and rolled it with her fingers as she traversed the bowl to the hatching grounds to see how the eggs were doing. She had heard there were mini-dragon eggs on the sands, and she really wanted to see how they looked. It was her luck, then, that she arrived when she did. She arrived as others did and looked a sight happier as she realized they were hatching. Maybe R’gant would come, as well, so she could catch him up on what was happening with Oneth and K’vys (but mostly Oneth). And maybe this meat would come in handy after all.

Oskarion hadn’t known there were eggs on the sands until he’d seen them, sitting there, almost lonely except for a rider keeping watch over them. They were so small, how could anything hatch out of them? Could they Impress? What exactly were they? The Trader had seen nothing like them in his life, which was saying something since he traded many, many things. He’d even held things he knew were so important that they sold for a very, very high price in Marks. He was sure only Lord Holders or people of that degree could have bought it.
So, intrigued, Oskarion decided to check it out. He had heard from others that they were hatching, and, eating a fruit in one hand, the boy sauntered over to the hatching sands, which were quickly filling up. There were only, what, seven of them? If they Impressed like dragons did, then seven people would be lucky today. Oskar stood on a rock at the far end of the Sands, not too far so that he could not see, but far enough that he might not be chosen. He did not want whatever was in those eggs now, he just wanted the chance to see, first-hand, what those things were. It would make a pretty interesting story to tell Olivia later, as Oskar could not see Olivia’s head anywhere in the crowd.
However, Oskarion was too far away to actually see the eggs in the sands. Oh well, there would probably be others, and there was talk now that they could go find more eggs anytime they wanted: the little dragon-things laid them along the coasts here and further south. He bit into his fruit idly, chomping down and chewing, with his mouth politely shut, as he waited for the eggs to hatch. What a neat experience this would be, and it was too bad Olivia wasn’t here to see it!

Post by R'gant and Xanith on Jul 13, 2010 19:10:16 GMT -5
Merely out of curiosity R'gant made his way to the hatching sands to see...what had they called them? Little dragons? He had to see this with his own eyes.
With Xanith oiled and massaged, he took to the skies for a practice run around the Weyr to stretch his wings. He'd informed him about the eggs, but Xanith had insisted on taking a look around before they went out the next morning. He was planning on exploring the island a bit more. He'd have to gather a few riders to come along, but he was sure that would not take long.
Making his way through the Weyr, he arrived to find that people were already there. All of them had expressions of excitement on their faces. You could have sworn this was Chalarath's hatching by the way everyone gawked and whispered. Strolling closer, he craned his neck get a better look at the tiny batch of eggs. They were very cute and one's shell looked similar to Xanith's before he hatched. The sight brought memories flooding back of his own impression 14 turns ago. It seems so long ago now. They had both grown so much since then.
He took a spot near Maram and looked at the trembling egg. Whomever got that one would have a handful. He looked very eager to enter this world. It was quite a sight to see. . "Evening Weyrwoman." He said, smiling at her before looking at the eggs again. He heard B'lor tell everyone to not get too close and he chuckled.
"Perhaps they're more advanced than our much larger dragons." He offered as a possible explanation. For all they knew, their tiny bodies could form firestones inside and expell flame. That visual alone made him wrinkle his nose.
He shifted out of the way so that others may get a glimpse of the eggs. He stepped in behind Maram, and resting his hand on her lower back so that he wouldn't bump into her, shifted his way through the crowd. He'd watch from a distance. It seemed many others had the same idea. If these dragons impressed he didn't want another soul to look after. Xanith was already a handful, he thought with a smile. He crossed his arms over his chest and waited.

Post by Z'ris and Kardenzoth on Jul 13, 2010 21:32:45 GMT -5
Kardenzoth was nearly having a conniption.
Mine! 'Rismine!! Eggs are hatching, the eggs are hatching!
The blue's voice boomed through the dragonrider's mind as he was sipping on some freshly brewed klah. He winced slightly and rubbed at a temple with his free hand. He almost hadn't a clue what the blue was talking about, simply because he seemed to chatter on like Z'ris actually had an idea about what he was talking of. Certainly the dragon eggs weren't hatching, from what he knew Chalarath hadn't even laid them yet. He sighed, sipping calmly at his klah while he waiting for his rambling dragon to quiet down a bit. What in Faranth's name are you talking about? Perhaps that wasn't the best thing to say to the blue, who took the comment quite offensively.
Don't tell me you already forgot! 'Ris! How can you forget? This was so important to me and I loved them!
What are you talking about? Z'ris was unfazed by his dragon's pleading.
Egg! The eggs are hatching! Egg is going to hatch.
It was with a look of mixed pain and disgust that suddenly swept over Z'ris' features. Oh shards, you still call it Egg. He rolled his eyes, at once strolling to the kitchens, which was away from the hatching grounds (Kardenzoth was quick to make note of that). His begreened dragon still had desperately clung to the hope that he would be the great leader of a band of mini-dragons, or so what he dubbed the creatures to be. He had named the egg that Z'ris had carried over from the Southern Continent as Egg, but thankfully with the notorious memory dragons have and the way all of the eggs looked the sharding same, the blue really couldn't tell the difference between them anymore.
Granted, that didn't stop him from calling any one of them by his pet name for it.
The bluerider popped his head into the kitchens, nosing towards the cooling rack where he deftly handed himself a couple of sweetrolls. It was more a subconscious action that caused him to get the food. Everything that was young was first and foremost hungry, or so he had witnessed. Babies were, canine pups were, and most certainly dragons were always hungry after a hatching. He figured it would be the same with these miniature versions. Alas, he could be wrong, but it was better safe than sorry to have something to nibble on in his pocket. He then started on his way to the Hatching Grounds--he knew where they were simply because he had had a shift watching over the eggs one night--oh you can imagine how Kardenzoth loved that.
The bluerider emerged on the Sands then, smiling at the small crowd that had already gathered. "Well, word around here goes fast..." He muttered the words more to himself than anyone else. He was still getting accustomed to the small number of dragonriders that were at this new Weyr. He recognized a few of the riders that were present, and the faces seemed familiar of the rest that were there, but really it seemed like the past few days muddled past in a blur of getting things done to make the Weyr livable.
Look! Look, that one is rocking.
Z'ris grimaced then, looking up hesitantly to see that the blue was on one of the lower ledges surrounding the hatching grounds--meant for dragons to gather on for dragon hatchings, of course. You're reaching an obsessive level. The dragon ignored him, and Z'ris could only imagine that he had his sights set on the eggs below. Oh he could remember Kardenzoth the day he hatched. "Well, let's hope they aren't as needy as dragon hatchlings."

"Greetings, Weyrwoman,"
“Ah, B’lor,” Maram said, remembering the bronze-riders name. She listened to his counsel and considering that he was one of the few who’d actually witnessed the little creations, she was inclined to do as he said.
“Tell everyone to go up to stand around the sands or in the stands,” she told the rider who’d entered. She watched him move off to do her biding, before turning back to B’lor.
“So, they breathed fire…a little lizard that can breathe fire. Fascinating. What else did you observe?” She asked him. She could hear others arriving onto the sands and the rider she’d directed keeping them back from crowding the eggs. They did not want to scare the little creatures away the moment they hatched.
“Evening,” Maram replied to the rider…bronze by his shoulder knot. She tried to pull up his name…she knew it had to be there somewhere amid the mass of memories she’d accumulated over the past few days. So many new faces, so many names, she wasn’t sure if she could place his at the moment.
“Interesting idea,” she said with a smile towards him when he contemplated how the dragons breathed fire. With a slight nod of her head and a final smile, she moved forward a bit to let him pass behind her. The sands were getting crowded, at least many had taken to the stands rather than trying to get too close to the eggs. What if the little creatures needed certain people, just like their larger counterparts? There were so many unanswered questions. They would know soon.
Maram noted a few dragons had even swooped in and taken their place on the traditional ledges, curious as well to see what would emerge from the small shells. Another little egg seemed to twitch on the sands.
“Don’t think it will be long now,” she said to no one in particular.

He broke up his meeting once dinner was laid out for them by the kitchen drudges. He was quite grateful for the attention but very un used to it. Wingleaders were treated well by the kitchen staff but dinner didn’t just appear on the table at a certain time.
He joined Maram and their meal was one of the best he’d had in a sevenday. There was even wine… Benden wine. He just shook his head not having a clue how that was possible.
He didn’t mean to rush the meal but he had charts all laid out in the council room that were calling to him. He needed to decipher the Threadfall patterns and apply them to where they were now.
“Chalaranth says come. The eggs are hatching.”
He grinned and trotted toward the steps down toward the hatching sands. He rounded the entrance into the Hatching grounds to see quite a group already gathered, the word certainly traveled fast.
His eyes found Maram and noted the closeness of a bronzerider he didn’t recognize. His eyes narrowed briefly and couldn’t be certain from where he was but it looked like he touched her. He crossed to her with a smile and took her hand bringing her fingers to his lips for a moment and then turning to stand facing the little eggs with his arm around her a little possessively.
He nodded to B’lor and clapped him on the shoulder. “I need to talk to you later when you have some time.”
“Don’t think it will be long now,”
He refocused his mind on the little eggs. Then asked the other bronze rider “What did you call them?”

Post by Echo and Anayeth on Jul 14, 2010 1:37:01 GMT -5
Echo was looking, scanning the crowd more than trying to see the eggs. She was standing behind a couple people, and one of them was a man so huge she could barely see past him. She could not see the eggs any more than she could see her hand in front of her face whilst in an unlit cave. So she gave up trying to see the eggs, as she hadn’t really been meaning to see them anyway. Instead, she browsed shoulder knots, the stupid things of the past, to find Bronzeriders. She was searching for R’gant.
Then, then, she saw him through the crowd, standing slightly beside and behind the Weyrwoman. Boy had the Weyrwoman put up a great flight this morning. Echo had seen happiness light even the infirmary, a place where hope could sometimes be scarce. That was a sight to see, one so wonderful that Echo had been overjoyed. She’d felt flashes of the lust instilled within many people, but she had ultimately continued on her work, and then left to find food. So the day had progressed in that state, especially with her searching for R’gant.
Now Echo had found him.
She was put into motion faster than her mind could react. But her mind didn’t need to react, even before she had spotted him, she knew she had to talk. It was for K’vys, she told herself, not for the handsome man who had taken K’vys under his figurative wing. So she had told him that she’d tell him later how K’vys was. She didn’t know that he had been in later, later that night. But she kept her promises like someone might keep marks. Or something like that, her brain wasn’t really focusing right now.
She pushed her way through the crowd with ease, sort of like a fish swimming through the rivers… if there were any fish left, of course. “Bronzerider R’gant!” She cried, not at all breathless as she arrived at the Bronzerider’s position. She did not feel in the slightest a bit off by standing with Bronzeriders or the Goldrider. She had a duty to do, and until it was finished, she would stand where she rutting well pleased. “Bronzerider R’gant, I promised to give you updates on K’vys’s condition. What better way to be the herald of good news than to tell it at the beginning of a hatching?”

R'gant's gaze darted around the crowd as he stood waiting for the hatching to truly begin. He noted a few faces he recognized and others he did not. This Weyr was certainly going to take a while to get used to. Although everyone had come from similar Holds and Weyrs, they each had their personal customs and traditions that befit their past homes. It would take a bit of effort on each of their parts to mold into the ways of the other people around them. Maybe over the course of time they could create unique customs for Dragon Weyr alone. Never having been an extremely imaginative person, he'd let others decide what those customs would be. If left to him they'd all do something dull.
He watched as their new Weyrleader made his way through the crowd of people and found a place next to his. A tiny smirk rose to R'gant lips then, but he hadn't long to watch them before his attention was pulled elsewhere.
Ah Echo! It was nice to see her smiling face again.
“R’gant, I promised to give you updates on K’vys’s condition. What better way to be the herald of good news than to tell it at the beginning of a hatching?”
"Hello Echo. Ah K'vys. Yes, I haven't heard anything about his progress. I take it things have turned around?" He'd been meaning to stop by the infirmary, but he'd spent the morning tending to the other dragon riders who needed his service. Navigating through this new Weyr was like trying to find one's way through a large maze. He had explored most of it, but there were still rooms he had yet to find. He had missed dinner because he had promised to oil and massage Xanith's wings. All in all it had been a busy day for him. He'd catch a last minute meal before retiring for the evening.
He smiled warmly at the petite healer, giving her his undivided attention.

Alix had been in the infirmary whe she heard that the mini-eggs were going to hatch.
"I guess I'll go take a look", she thought as she walked over to the hatching grounds. On the way she stopped by the kitchen to pick up some meat in case the little hatchlings were hungry. For once Alix was glad that she had taken the early shift in the infirmary, if she hadn't she would have gotten stuck with the late shift. To her the late shift was the worst. You had to sit in the infirmary all night to keep tabs on the paitients, and tend to anyone who might be hurt or ill. But there was one advantage to the late shift for her. It gave her time to think about things (when she wasn't dozing on and off) that were on her mind.
Her shift had just finished and she was about to go back to the candidate barracks when there was news that there was movment on the sands. The eggs were going to hatch. Having never been to a hatching Alix figured she might as well go, and use it as preperation for the dragon clutch that will soon be laid.
Upon walking in she could already feel the hot sand beneath her feet. She would have to get used to these sands if she's going to stand on them later. As she walked in she saw that there were already quite a few people gathered around the eggs. Even the Weyrwoman and Weyrleader!
She decided to get closer to see if any of the eggs hatched, but before she got close enough she pushed the thought aside. "No there would be humming", she thought as she backed up a little. "Or would there?"

Post by Echo and Anayeth on Jul 14, 2010 15:04:49 GMT -5
Echo was slightly relieved when R’gant remembered her. She was afraid he would have forgotten her, what with all the new faces everyone had to learn. Speaking of which, Echo had to get cracking, seeing as she had stayed in the infirmary and knew people there (if only by looks half the time), but rarely knew anyone’s face outside the infirmary. That’s another thing she’d been doing earlier today. She’d tried to keep track of the faces she saw, and file them for later. It was one of those things she hadn’t really had to do for some time… well, at least since she first moved to the Weyr. Somehow, though, moving to the Weyr then was easier than trying to remember faces now.
‘I take it things have turned around?’ R’gant asked at the end of his talk. Echo nodded, short and curt, “I was amazed at how well he was doing. Ceinwen—that’s the healer who took care of K’vys—has brought him back. He was conscious earlier, and able to speak to us. Nothing in the way of his mentality seems to be wrong, and his chaffed legs look bad, still, but it’s only been a day. They are, however, healing wonderfully.” She didn’t include that she had made K’vys bruise his arm, since the bruise was very minor.
Echo looked up at the rider’s face, almost seeing him for the first time. While her resolve did not waver, she could see what Ceinwen saw in him last night, that strong face and possibly the features that would want to draw her in. She had only glanced at him before, as Oneth had taken up most of her attention. Now she saw him and saw what they saw, only slightly without as much waiting-to-be-released lust that Chalarath had unknowingly set upon the Weyr. He was a handsome man, with nice green eyes. He was also a lot taller than her, and she’d probably gauge him to be higher than 6 feet, much higher than her 5 foot 5 inches.
Echo looked away from his eyes to his mouth as if afraid they’d captivate her for too long. She had not faltered while looking at him in the least, except for the slight movement of her eyes. “Oneth is doing well, too. As I had expected last night, he has only sore wings. There are no broken bones, and he should be back to normal in only a couple days. The two are still in the infirmary but are expected to make a full recovery.” A light smile.

Post by L'yst and Woreth on Jul 14, 2010 15:06:17 GMT -5
L'yst made his way across the weyrbowl with a plate of juicy meats in his hands. He'd spent countless Turns training weyrlings and witnessing hatchings and if these little creatures were like their big cousins, they would emerge ravenously hungry.
If nothing else, L'yst wanted to be prepared just as he would for any hatching. As he approached, he was not truly surprised to see that many had gathered to watch. It was an event for the history skins for sure. Hatchings were always exciting moments. The question was what this particular Hatching would be like.
With the tray in hand, he moved towards the Weyrwoman and the newly appointed Weyrleader.
"I've brought fresh meat. Not as much as I would prepare for a regular Hatching, but I think it best we be prepared." L'yst placed the tray by his feet. They were not far from the little eggs that had all started to rock and shake.
A hatching was clearly imminent. L'yst would do his part to help, but he did not wish to Impress one of the little creatures. Sure, he was curious, but he so often had his hands full with weyrlings and Woreth that he did not think another creature to tend to would be in either of their best interests.

Tobias and Chloe hadn't been back long from their little jaunt around the surrounding lands when a ripple of excitement seemed to permeate the Weyr.
A Hatching? Little eggs? Tobias felt a bit out of sorts. He'd missed much of what was going on. When they'd arrived yesterday, he and Chloe had spent time getting settled and then they had taken off to gather supplies early this morning.
"Little dragon eggs?" He had asked Chloe, curious. "I'd like to see them." With a grin in her direction, he turned and made his way to the hatching sands, gently tugging on her hand that was encased in his.
"You don't mind do you? I've never actually seen any kind of Hatching." As they moved towards the sands, Tobias noticed quite a little crowd gathering. His somewhat bulkier size forced some of the bystanders to step aside to let him through. There were advantageous to being his size.
Finally, he made it to a spot where he could see the little eggs. It just so happened that he was standing beside the tray of meats that had been brought in. He eyed it curiously, but turned his attention back to the eggs. Then, glancing at Chloe, he smiled. He wondered what must be going though her mind watching the little eggs.

Post by S'ren and Kasalith on Jul 14, 2010 15:34:01 GMT -5
Munching on a plump, green apple, S'ren made his way to the hatching sand with another green rider from Ista Weyr. They had just left his weyr where they had dined and gossiped like two old women. While he was sure that C'ton had told him everything that had happened to him today, S'ren purposely omitted his time in the weryling barracks. He didn't want anyone to know about it. Although he had thoroughly enjoyed himself, he wasn't exactly comfortable talking about his lovers with anyone, especially with a talkative friend like C'ton. His business would be all over the Weyr before midnight if he knew. They entered the large room to find that most everyone had already arrived. Any chance of getting a view of the little dragons went out the window. Sighing to himself, S'ren dropped his arms to his side and looked at C'ton. "This is your fault you know," he said, poking his friend playfully in the chest. "You had to finish your meal. You're such a slow eater, C'ton." The other boy shielded himself against his jabs and then pulled him into a hug. "I'm sorry S'ren. I'm sure we'll get to see them soon enough." The boy pulled back and looked him in the eyes. "It's not the worst thing that could have happened." This was true. Not having a good view of a few dragon eggs was low on his list of horrible events. He smiled then and nodded. "I'm okay. Lets find a place along the wall. I'm a bite sore from earlier. I need to sit I think." C'ton looked his way and furrowed his brow. "Sore, eh?" "Shut it," S'ren snapped, rolling his eyes. They made their way to the back wall and took a spot. S'ren leaned against the wall and brought his apple back to his lips for another bite. It was then that Kasalith made her grand entrance. "Oh, I can't wait to see this, mine. Make way. The Queen Green has arrived."S'ren turned his eyes to the sky and watched as Kasalith swooped in and took her place on a low ledge next to a blue dragon. She eyed the blue for a moment and then turned her gaze to the tiny eggs. S'ren burst out laughing. Queen Green, eh?" He joked with her. Kasalith cocked her head to the side and ignored him, which only made him laugh more. Up ahead, through the rows of people he caught sight of another blue rider. L'yst. He craned his neck to get a better look at him and almost collided with C'ton. The other boy gripped his arm and steadied him. "Eager?" C'ton asked with a smile. "You have no idea." S'ren said before taking another bite of his apple. Tag: Anyone (OOC: Kasalith landed near Kardenzoth )
