D'vin - Darvin, - he had to correct himself, mentally, settled down into the chair in his room, in the Hold. Things at the Weyr had kept him busy for the better part of three days, and he'd arrived at the Hold only just the night before.
He breakfasted lightly, wearing just his looser pants, rubbing at his eyes to try and wake himself more fully. The air was chill, but it was a nice chill, which helped him rouse himself to full wakefulness.
The hot, sweet Klah warmed him against the cold, as he looked out the tall, narrow window facing out onto the grasslands before the Hold.
Around him lay most all of his worldly possessions. He had handed over his harnesses and most of his flight equipment, except for a heavier leather flying set which would do for any trips needed on dragonback. Clothes. A couple minor trinkets. That was about all of his possessions... And he kinda liked how it felt.
It was like a new beginning, for him.
He began to rummage around for a shirt, as he finished his breakfast, and wondered if Ev had heard he was back, yet. Probably, he thought, and winced, slightly. I hope she's not too upset.

“... came in from the Weyr last night...”
Evie froze as she made her way out of the kitchens after breakfast. Whoever had spoken had walked on past, she would never find them now. Could they have been talking about D’vin?
He’d been gone for three days. Of course, he’d been busy. She was sure that a lot needed to be done at the Weyr. It was understandable that he wouldn’t have time to come back to the Hold and visit her. Like he said he would.
Both excited to 'see' him and annoyed with him, Evie set to work tracking him down. It took a while, but Evie managed to find someone both willing and able to tell her where D’vin was staying. Finding his room, she knocked on the door, smoothed the front of her blue dress, and crossed her arms as the door opened.
“Three. Days.” She did her best to sound upset, but ultimately couldn’t bury her smile.

He stood quickly, almost as if startled - And he was, despite having been expecting it. He'd been expecting the knock every time he heard footsteps in the hall. This time, however, he started so abruptly that he tilted over the impromptu table he'd set up next to his bed, along with the maps of the Hold lands. A loud clatter came from inside the room, followed by muffled words that, by their tone, could be considered swearing, regardless of what words actually passed his lips. A few moments later, he lurched over toward the door, and opened it, smiling, and blushing, somewhat.
Three. Days.
He laughed, sheepishly, and opened the door, fully. He stepped forward, and reached for her hand, slowly, as he spoke, "I'm sorry. There was... Quite a bit to be done." His tone told volumes, that his words did not. The slight hesitation, the buried pain, like a wound just lately scabbing over, though the blood had hardly dried. "I.. Resigned my position, spoke to R'enh.. The Weyrleader, R'enh. Informed him of my decision. Gathered up my belongings, passed along the change of address, and... Well. I left a lot behind. Things I won't... Need anymore, I suppose. Haven't needed," He amended, after a moment, though it seemed more directed to himself than to her, and its' reassuring tone wasn't hard to catch. "And... I'm sorry it took me so long to come back, Evelie." He bowed his head, and brushed his fingertips against the back of her hand, almost tentatively.

With a compassionate sigh at the touch of his fingertips, she shook her head. "Don't be sorry. It must have been difficult to leave." If the pain in his tone was anything to go by, it had been very hard on him. Hopefully, now he could start over, start to heal. She hadn’t really thought about what he must be going through while he'd been gone - she’d only thought about how much she wanted to spend more time with him. Silly and selfish of her, she thought.
"I'm not upset, I just..." she paused, blushing, "...missed you." Not for the first time, and likely not for the last, she wished she could see his face. It was sometimes such a challenge to decipher what people were feeling when all she could rely on were her ears.
Well, it couldn’t be helped. Smiling vibrantly, she took hold of his hand in both of hers. "But you're here now. I’m glad to have you back, D’vin - ah,” she hesitated, a little embarrassed, “I mean... oh. Um, what is your name now?”

He smiled, warmly, and slipped his arms fully around her, breathing deeply the scent of her hair, almost startled at how easy it was to hold her. Long, powerful arms, around her thin, lovely frame. How vulnerable she looked! His smiled turned tender, as he thought on that, for a moment - And realized, abruptly, that she was, in some ways, stronger than he was. How could he live without sight? But, somehow, she did... And his respect for her eased upward.
"D'vin... Not anymore, I suppose. Darvin," he mumbled, and half-coughed on the word. "Darvin," he repeated, after a moment, almost reverently. "That's a name I haven't gone by in a long, long time."
He gave a quiet chuckle, as if unwilling to break his own silence, "Darvin. That's my name, now." He nodded, more firmly. "Ev?"
He paused, a moment, "I missed you, too."

Evie was stunned by how much she enjoyed being held, even more by how ecstatic she was that he had done so. With a bit of a start, she realized how solidly built he was, felt the strength in his arms. It was nearly instinctual as she moved her hands to his shoulders, making a mental note of how tall he was, how broad in the chest. She was starting to put together a picture of him in her mind. Maybe one day she would be able to ‘see’ him, after all.
That was a remarkably pleasing thought.
"I missed you, too."
She knew she was blushing - again. He seemed to have an uncanny talent for making her do that. “Darvin,” she said softly, and then mouthed the name silently to herself, almost as if she were trying to taste it, a contemplative look on her face. Then she grinned. “I like it.”

He chuckled, "I've spent almost thirty years getting away from that name... And now I'm back to it." He sighed, softly. He rolled his shoulders, in a slight shrug, but seemed reluctant to let her go. "What do you think? Lord Holder Darvin, of the last Hold- Shards!" He broke out into abrupt, sharp laughter, derisive, and self-deprecating. "Shards, and Shells. Lord Holder. Shards!" He shook his head, and sighed, quietly, "Can you imagine that?" He shook his head, sighing, quietly. "It's... Almost too much to think of. From Dragonless, to Lord Holder. All because I ran into that thick-headed herdbeast by the kitchen."
He leaned his head against her own, lightly. "... You sure about all this? It's... Kind of a lot going on, right now." He frowned, and it carried into his voice, mingled with almost absent concern. "I mean, if they choose me then..." He paused, very abruptly, and startled against her. He loosened his hold, slightly. Just slightly.
"I'm sorry. I don't mean to over-step my bounds, Lady Evelie." He bowed his head.

She had started to laugh in good-natured humor at his self-deprecation, but the laugh faded before it could even really begin as she felt him lean his head against hers.
She didn’t say anything for a moment, a mildly stunned look on her face as she tried to sort through a plethora of confused emotions. He was certainly right, there was a lot happening, very quickly. She enjoyed being in his arms, loved spending time with him, she had missed him... shards, more than that she liked him. But blindness had taught her caution.
“Don’t apologize,” she finally said, softly. Reluctantly, her hands slid down from his shoulders along his arms until they found his hands. She gently unwrapped herself from his arms with a shy smile. She didn’t know what to say, so she didn’t say anything. “You’re not Lord Holder yet,” she managed a somewhat playful grin, “Though, given the competition, I sincerely doubt it will be much of a contest.”

He gave an absent chuckle, though it sounded more like stalling for time while he thought, than anything else. "I guess that's true enough..." He physically shook himself, slightly, and cleared his throat. He smiled, and squeezed her hands, gently, smiling. "Thanks, Ev," he chuckled, though this time, it was sincere.
"So... What's to be done around a Hold, anyway? And where do you usually play?" He looked past her, down the hallway, as if expecting a crowd of children to pop out from around a corner.
Now I have to learn this place, too! He inwardly remarked. At least I've got a guide.

She giggled a little, “What’s to be done? Some Lord Holder you’ll make.” With surprising ease, she moved to stand by the wall, her right hand on the cool stone, her left hand still holding his. “Come with me.”
“This area is mostly living quarters,” she explained as they walked, “There’s a hall that widens to form a small alcove near my quarters. I usually play there - it’s easy for both the children and me to find, and it's out of the way. Well, most of the time. I can only play for a few children at once. If any more gather, it becomes too difficult for me to tell how many there are and what they’re doing.” She sounded a bit frustrated by this, but didn’t dwell on it.
Clearly enjoying herself, she smiled in Darvin’s direction, “I suppose you should at least see the whole Hold before becoming its Lord. Where can I take you first?”

"You can take me anywhere you'd like," he replied, his face flushing with warmth as he stammered to recover his words, "I... I wouldn't know where to start. We can start wherever you'd like. Or, here, if you'd prefer. It's really your choice." He mentally kicked himself.
You can take me anywhere you'd like, he repeated to himself. Wonderfully said! He mocked himself, wincing, inwardly.
"Where do you usually spend your time?" He hoped his warm, energetic tone would be enough to detract from the awkwardness of his last few sentences. His tone carried a faint trace of that hope.
Not likely, part of him flippantly replied.

Evie's eyebrows raised, amused by his stammering. “I spend a lot of my time in my room,” she paused just slightly for effect before continuing, “but for now perhaps we should start somewhere else?” It struck her that she’d never flirted with someone before. That realization made her suddenly nervous, hoping she hadn’t sounded... any number of things.
Hastening to try and hide her embarrassment, she said, “You’ve seen a large part of the main hold already, the kitchens and dining hall, the Great Hall of course, the living area - that really only leaves the infirmary, workrooms and offices. Unless you want to inspect the storage rooms. And then there’s the courtyard and everything surrounding the main hold -”
Realizing she was starting to ramble, she paused and took a breath. A bit more composed, she asked, “What would be most useful to you?”

His smile grew, and warmed, at her little flirt - And he liked it. He watched her facial expression carefully, losing track of that, after a moment, and simply looking at her smile. He glanced left, down the hall, and then glanced right, and looked down the hall ahead of himself. "... We'll go left, and figure out what's over that way." He nodded, grinning wider. "Then we'll pick another direction, from there."
He added, quietly, after a moment, "I, ah, do hope it's not too easy to get lost." The murmured addendum seemed more self-directed than anything else.

“If a blind woman can find her way, you can,” she joked before muttering, “Though, I do usually have to ask someone where I am a few times a day to regain my bearings.”
She went left, her hand on the familiar surface of the wall guiding her as she tried to remember what it would take them towards. If she was correct, they would eventually go past the archives and offices, such as they were. Then came the infirmary... she thought. Unless she had become turned around and was going the opposite direction...
Oh, shells. “Let me know what you see,” she said, refusing to worry about it. With D’vin - Darvin, she corrected herself - with her, she couldn’t imagine getting lost. He could always describe their surroundings, and she could guide them from there.
Theoretically.

He chuckled, softly, watching the expressions flicker across her face, and admiring the smooth, lovely structure of her face. He wasn't paying any attention at all, it seemed, to their surroundings. He seemed to sense their shared uncertainty about their location and path, and laughed, briefly, but warmly. "You know, I just realized, I don't really care if we get lost. It sounds like it would be fun. Don't you think?" He looked around, his gait slowing, as he took in their surroundings. He laughed, and gestured to his right, "This way! Another turn. I wonder where it goes..."
