This month is both the hardest and the easiest of the entire weyrlinghood. Most of the time will be spent getting to know one's lifemate and learning to care for a young, growing dragon properly. Dragon and rider will spend time simply getting to know each other and strengthening the bond they now share, with the aid and counsel of older riders and weyrlingstaff. There is very little free time allotted at any point in weyrlinghood, but even less during the first month. At hatching, a dragonet ranges from 3 to 4 feet in length, but the size will change rapidly, especially for the larger colors.

Restdays

All schedules are for the first six days of each sevenday. Weyrlings are given a restday on the seventh day of each sevenday, unless Thread falls that day. If Thread falls on the restday, the Weyrlingmaster will designate an alternate restday for the sevenday. Weyrlings must attend to their dragonet's feedings, baths, and oilings on the restday, but the remainder of the time is free time.

Month 1, Sevenday 1

During this sevenday, the dragonet will eat five meals a day, gradually tapering off throughout the first two months. These meals aren't a whole herdbeast by any means, but after a weyrling has chopped up enough raw meat to fill the young one's seemingly bottomless stomach, it may seem that way. Chopped, raw meat is provided only on Impression day. Weyrlings must learn to cut their own meat daily, until the dragonet can fly and learn to hunt. Dragons excrete waste /between/ as adults. Until each dragonet learns to /between/, weyrlings must clean the barracks daily.

Daily Schedule:
6 c/m Wake, feed, bathe, and oil dragonet.
7 c/m Bathe, then breakfast
8 c/m Class: Proper ways to feed a dragonet, including preventing overeating. Proper care and oiling of dragon hide, including identifying dry patches and how to treat them.
10 c/m Feed dragonet.
11 c/m Class: Weyr tour and the rules and regulations of weyrlinghood. Chores expected of weyrlings and how to perform them properly. Senior weyrling partner may be assigned during the latter three days of the class.
13 c/m Lunch
14 c/m Feed dragonet.
15 c/m Class: Exploring the bond between rider and dragonet. Learning to identify which sensation is from which half of the bond. Learning to provide control and guidance for dragonet emotions.
16 c/m Exercises to build strength and stamina.
17 c/m Dinner
18 c/m Feed dragonet.
19 c/m Clean weyrling barracks, followed by barracks inspection.
20 c/m Evening meeting with senior rider or weyrlingstaff for questions and individual instruction
21 c/m Limited free time. Weyrling must stay near barracks and should spend time getting to know fellow weyrlings.
22 c/m Feed dragonet.
23 c/m Lights Out.

Month 1, Sevenday 2

During this sevenday, the dragonet will eat four meals a day, gradually tapering off throughout the first month.

6 c/m Wake, feed, bathe, and oil dragon.
7 c/m Bathe, then breakfast
9 c/m Class: Weyrlife and Weyr Chain of Command Structure.
11 c/m Feed dragonet.
12 c/m Lunch
13 c/m Class: Controlling dragonet emotion and impulses, improving the bond between dragon and rider.
15 c/m Class: Basic Dragonhealing, emphasizing dragon anatomy and growth patterns.
16 c/m Feed dragonet.
17 c/m Exercises to build strength and stamina.
18 c/m Dinner
19 c/m Clean weyrling barracks, followed by barracks inspection.
20 c/m Feed dragonet.
21 c/m Limited free time. Weyrling must stay near barracks and should spend time getting to know fellow weyrlings. Those who want to go to bed early can do so.
22 c/m Lights Out

Month 1, Sevenday 3

During this sevenday, the dragonet will eat three meals a day, gradually tapering off throughout the first month.

6 c/m Wake, feed, bathe, and oil dragon.
7 c/m Bathe, then breakfast
8 c/m Class: Weyr sexuality, emphasizing differences between weyr and hold or hall life and morals.
10 c/m Class: Dragonrider etiquette in and out of the Weyr.
12 c/m Feed dragonet.
13 c/m Lunch
14 c/m Class: Basic dragonhealing, emphasizing first aid and general healthcare
16 c/m Exercises to build strength and stamina.
17 c/m Dinner
18 c/m Feed Dragonet
19 c/m Clean weyrling barracks, followed by barracks inspection.
20 c/m Free time. Can be used to explore the Weyr, if dragonet is agreeable (or sleeping). Studying is encouraged during free time.
22 c/m Lights Out

Month 1, Sevenday 4

During this sevenday, the dragonet will eat three meals a day, gradually tapering off throughout the first month to only two meals per day in the second month.

6 c/m Wake, feed, bathe, and oil dragon.
7 c/m Bathe, then breakfast
8 c/m Class: Dragonrider History (Weyrhold and Weyr).
10 c/m Class: First aid, emphasizing rider injuries, especially those most likely in weyrling training
12 c/m Feed dragonet.
13 c/m Lunch
14 c/m Class: Basic formations
16 c/m Exercises to build strength and stamina.
17 c/m Dinner
18 c/m Feed Dragonet
19 c/m Clean weyrling barracks, followed by barracks inspection.
20 c/m Free time. Can be used to explore the Weyr, if dragonet is agreeable (or sleeping). Studying is encouraged during free time.
22 c/m Lights Out
