Starting Plot and Backstory
It’s the start of the 5th pass on Pern. Thread had only just begun to fall, but the planet faced a much more devastating situation than even Thread posed. As the Red Star approached the planet, it brought with it a more destructive enemy than any could have imagined. A meteor, which had attached itself to the gravitational pull of the Red Star as it passed through the Oort cloud, soon found its way down to Pern.
Though the largest of them broke up in the atmosphere, the resulting crash of the rocks, unleashed untold horrors. Within days of the crash, Pern began to experience high volcanic activity and other untold disasters. The riders, holders, and people of Pern were forced out of their homes in an attempt to save their lives and whatever they could carry. The only good about this destruction was that it somehow burned off and withheld most of the early threadfall.
With the world in chaos, the riders who survived the initial onslaught and resulting illnesses that began to effect some of the dragons flew hard and fast with any they could save to find a safe haven. Maram and R’enh led those that they could to safety, a fairly large undiscovered island off to the west of the main Northern Continent. The land was surprisingly lush, considering that the pass had already begun. Maram and R’enh know they must find homes and shelter for the riders that have survived with them and the people of Pern that will settle on the lush island under the protection of the riders.
To their surprise they found a craggy mountain crater that was not affected by any volcanic activity. Bigger than that they found it was a partially complete but abandoned Weyr. Soon, Dragon Weyr is born. Within a short time an abandoned hold, Dragon Hold, was also discovered close to the weyr. Now, both Weyr and Hold must rebuild. What will their future hold?
