The capacity of a Weyr varies from 300-600 dragons. However, during a Pass the dragonriders' duties leave little time for any other activity, so each Weyr has a large support staff that can number into the thousands.
Headwoman: Reports DIRECTLY to the Weyrwoman. She is the weyrwoman's second and see to all matters relating to the lower caverns. She heads up all the support staff, especially the cook, cleaning, maintenance, and fostering staff.
Cooks: Lower cavern staff, prepares meals for all who live in the weyr.
Servers: Lower cavern staff, serves meals either in the lower caverns or by bringing meals to individual weyrs that can be accessed by stairs.
Cleaning Staff: Lower cavern staff, cleans common areas and may assist with cleaning of weyrs during threadfighting when dragons and riders are often too busy to clean their own weyrs.
Herd Tenders: Cares for the beasts that feed the dragons in the weyrs.
Creche Mother: A woman who helps with the young weyrbrats until they are old enough to live with a Fosterer.
Fosterer: Someone who helps with the fostering of a Fosterling. May have another job or may work only as a fosterer.
Other lower cavern staff: Any other roles that might be needed within the weyr.
Craftsman: These are crafters who are normally assigned to the weyr by their craft. They provide support to the weyr residents. They are autonomous from the weyr structure. Some riders may have expertise in certain crafts as well.
Weyrbrat: The affectionate term used for the children and fosterlings found in the weyr. Werybrats are sent to the creche as soon as they are weaned from their mothers. They stay in the creche until they are matched with a Fosterer. All male weyrbrats have the right to stand as a candidate when they reach the age of 12.
