Backstory:
L'yst had already begun an apprenticeship in the art of Healing when he was searched. He did not Impress at the first hatching he was presented to and spent the next few years working under a Journeyman dragon-healing, learning much about the art of healing dragonkind. This is still a skill that L'yst is able to put to use when not busy doing other weyrduties.
Back at Telgar Weyr, L'yst had taken a turn as their weyrlingmaster, but had to relinquish that duty to another as it could be difficult and strenuous. Even when he was not working with the weyrlings, L'yst found himself watching them. He enjoyed the task of teaching them, and soon resumed his duties there just prior to the destruction that hit the Weyr and all of Pern.
He would have saved all of his weyrlings if he could, but not all could or would join them. He did, however, bring 5 of them with him when he fled Telgar Weyr.
