Saeddie wiped the sweat from her brow as she entered the Hotsprings. Wing drills had been rough. Even though summer was still a bit away, temperatures were rising, and completing maneuvers in full riding gear would make even the most heat-tolerant person sweat like an over-exerted runner. She stripped her clothes off quickly before slowly lowering herself into the naturally warm waters. She hummed contentedly to herself. She had beaten the rest of her wing to the water, and would have a few moments of peace to herself before she had to deal with anyone else.
She allowed the warmth of the water to relax tired, aching muscles. For the first time in over a turn, she felt like she was able to relax. Sure, not all was well - she still missed those that were killed in the meteor strikes, and she still hadn’t made as many friends at Dragon Weyr as she would like. But she and Cyth were safe - well, at least as safe as any dragonpair could be during a Pass. And while those who were now gone could never be replaced, she could always try and meet new friends.
She smiled to herself. Yes, that’s what she needed to do - find new friends. She dunked her head under the water for a moment, wetting her reddish hair. Opening her eyes, she noticed that a few of her wingmates, and some riders from other wings had entered. She wasn't familiar with any of them, but she figured it wouldn't hurt to say hello. "Hi there," she greeted cheerfully.

"Shards and shells," N'la muttered as she made her way to the hotsprings, "I don't even want to think about drills in the height of summer." Despite the complaint, she'd been glad of the drills lately. They provided a distraction, and a far healthier and cheaper option than drink or gambling. Anxious to feel the soothing heat on her aching muscles, N'la didn't even notice there was someone already in the water until after she'd stripped down and slid in.
"Oh! Hello," she said just before completely submerging for a long moment. Somewhat refreshed, she came up with a friendly, if perhaps slightly roguish, smile. "I don't think we've met. I'm N'la, rider of blue Aereth."

"I don't even want to think about drills in the height of summer."
Saeddie didn't want to consider that fact either. Perhaps it would provoke her to get rid of a bit of that extra weight the healer's were always chiding her about. No.... not likely. Chances are she'd finish drills famished and immediately hit the kitchens for a bubbly pie or three.
"I don't think we've met. I'm N'la, rider of blue Aereth."
"Saeddie, rider of green Cyth," she responded with a grin. "And I agree with you entirely I am not looking forward to the summer. I fear that we'll combust up there," she said, shaking her head. "Shame we can't convince Thread not to fall when the weather is inclimate.

N'la chuckled, "Ha! I can just picture that. Sending a message to the Red Star;" she took on a mock-haughty, overly proper tone, "Pardon us, but if it's not inconvenient, could you refrain from sending Thread down here when it's hot? While your at it, why not stop sending them completely? No? Oh, very well. Cool, cloudy days with a decent chance of rain, but not storms, would be ideal for us, if you please."
Her sarcasm subsided with a small cough. "Ahem. Nice to meet you, Saeddie. Are you a recent arrival, or have our paths simply never crossed before?"

Saeddie giggled despite herself. "Well, I suppose they wouldn't call it wishful thinking if it was practical," she admitted. "But it would be good if we could do something about it rather than just waiting for it to fall, and flaming it after the fact!" Perhaps Saeddie was more prone to wishful thinking that she'd thought.
Are you a recent arrival, or have our paths simply never crossed before?"
"Nice to meet you as well," Saeddie said with a warm smile. "I've been here for a good long while, ever since just after the meteors. I just tend to keep to myself, I suppose." She'd had a lot of friends before, but had lost many of them. "It's something I'm working on changing, I confess. I hear tell that it's not good for you to shut out the rest of the world."

N’la nodded thoughtfully. “So I’ve been told. I’m afraid I haven’t had much success making friends, either, I suppose. Oh, I get along just fine with most people, but...” she shrugged, somewhat futilely, “not quite so well as to call them friends. Too many memories keep getting in the way, I guess. Much to Aereth’s dismay,” she added with a small grin.
“So,” her demeanor went from contemplative to roguish in a matter of seconds, “what do you do to keep yourself busy, to prevent ‘shutting out’ the rest of the world?”
