Physical Description Xanthe is taller than the average Pernese woman at 5’7”, with long bistre hair and brown eyes. She is very meticulous in her appearance as she is in all things, and takes great pride in looking her best. She can usually be found wearing a finely made cotehardie with her hair worn loose, covered by a scarf and adorned with jewelry.

Character Background: Married and widowed at a young age, Xanthe utilized her skills in running a hold and applied them to her life at Ista Weyr. She moved their after the accident that killed her husband, bringing her two young children with her. There she apprenticed under the headwoman. Learning all she could from her until the day the lady retired and Xanthe assumed her position.
As headwoman, she worked closely with the Weyrwomen on a daily basis in ensuring that the Weyr ran smoothly. In time her children grew and came into their own. Xanthe filled her empty nest with a string of fosterlings, happy to help raise those who needed love and affection.
When disaster struck the planet, she held back at the Weyr and assisted all those she could in getting out. Only when there was no one left to aide did she consent to ride upon dragon back to join the other refugees. Now that the new Weyr and Hold has been established, Xanthe is stepping forward to once again serve as Headwoman for the Weyr.

“It will be alright, little one,” she said in a gentle hushed tone to the toddler she had wrapped up in her arms and pressed close to her chest. Xanthe was making her way through a half collapsed hallway where the child had been trapped along with his fosterer during the meteor strike. Sadly, his foster mother did not survive. Xanthe had heard his terrified plea and gone in search for him.
Most of the Weyr had already made their escape. There were only a few that remained who scoured the ruins for any signs of life. This young boy had been one of the lucky few. Based on her quick assessment of his injuries, Xanthe was fairly certain that he would survive once she placed him in the capable hands of a healer.
As she made her way through the rubble and around the destruction, Xanthe noted that the child had gone quite. A sudden pang of fear struck her and she glanced down at the small boy. What she saw tugged at her heart and she leaned against the wall and indulged her emotions as tears began to fall freely from her eyes. For there, in the dark dank hallway amidst all the destruction, this angelic boy slept peacefully in her arms. “It will be alright,” she whispered to herself, believing it for the first time.
