Ceinwen stood still, in awe of the entire experience. The sounds of anticipation and greeting emanating from the dragons who watched over them all were indescribable. She could feel the vibrations reverberate throughout her entire body. Ceinwen scanned the area above the eggs, taking a look at the spectators that watched expectantly for the newest arrivals. This clutch was a promise for the future of the planet and all these men, women and dragons were waiting to see what that future might hold.
The sound died down to a low rumbling hum, until the sound of a lone loud bugle made Ceinwen turn her attention back to the sands just as a bronze moved away from its cracked shell. She watched it closely as it made its way across the sands toward the object of its affection, Oskarion. Smiling she looked back at the eggs, catching site of a puddle of green at the feet of Alix and then saw another bronze butt it’s head into Landron’s chest. Ceinwen could not help but grin from ear to ear for Landron. She had come to have much respect for the man and was pleased to see him so happy and hugging his new lifemate.
The humming coming from the dragons had grown louder and louder. The rocking of the large metallic eggs that had been set apart attracted her attention. The silver egg cracked and almost simultaneously as the silver spilled out of her egg, the gold’s crumbled around her bringing the new queen into view. Ceinwen could feel the breath catching in her throat as she watched the pair, completely mesmerized.
The two metallic maids move in opposite directions and coiled around one another and began crying out in aggravation at the slowing of their progress. The sound tugged at Ceinwen’s heart and she rushed forward to help. As she moved forward the gold moved toward her and thudded her head squarely into Ceinwen’s chest with such a force that it knocked the wind out of her and sent her falling backward. As she looked up at the little queen from the ground she very clearly heard in her mind, ‘I am your Drusillith and require food.’ The tone of the dragonet’s voice had a despotic ring to it, but Ceinwen could feel the instant connection and adoration that flowed beneath it.
‘I am your Ceinwen and I require breath,’ she thought back to her lifemate sardonically as she attempted to recover from the blow.
Drusillith tiled her head to the side in slight confusion at Ceinwen’s response. ‘Then breath,’ she stated in a matter of fact way.
Ceinwen grinned at her concise response as she was helped to her feet and told to follow with the gold to feed her. She followed staring in awe at Drusillith as she followed along. When the pail of meat came into sight Ceinwen said in the same tone Drusillith gave to her, ‘Than eat.’
Drusillith gave her a little look the dipped her head down and began devouring the contents of the pail. Ceinwen smiled at her lifemate’s challenging gaze, she never had imagined that she would be chosen as a rider; let alone to a gold. A gold! ‘Oh my…’ she thought. She could feel her heart begin to speed up as an overwhelming feeling of panic began to well up inside her. ‘Do not worry, Ceinwenmine. I shall help you. All will be well.’
She stared at the gold in astonishment. This was going to be quite the adventure. Then seeing that Drusillith was almost through she fetched her another pail of meat. To her surprise she saw a bronze make his way up to Dru and sit near her. She could have almost sworn that he inclined his head in some sort of dragon bow. Did dragons bow?
“Congratulations, Ceinwen.”
Ceinwen turned to see Oskarion standing beside her. She had only met him in passing. “Thank you so much,” she said with a glint in her eye. “You are to be congratulated as well.” She looked down at his bronze admiringly and then back up at Oskarion. “He—“
‘Serenith is his name,’ Drusillith interjected. Then Dru responded to his greeting. “Serenith, so thoughtful of you to stop by. Have you had your fill,” she asked as she finished her second pail and was working on her third.
Ceinwen smiled a bit surprised by her involvement. “Serenith is a fine dragon.”
