R'enh fed the little Crimson who immediately went comatose again, his shirt seemed to satisfy the little guy as far as a bed for the moment.
After that was done he was on his way into the Council chamber.
"I have itches too" complained his big bronze and R'enh promised Mnoranth a bath and good oil rub when he was finished with the meeting.
It was a few minutes before he expected any of the other riders and he went back to his notes and charts. They had fewer dragons than he'd like but more than he'd expected.
Even some of the weyrlings were nearer graduation and incorporation into the wings than he'd first thought. He'd get L'yst working with them and give him a report on their readiness. Then, they needed a candidate master to deal with the existing ones and organize the effort to find more amongst their refugees.
He leaned on the table for a few moments before he heard the footfalls of the first arrival.

D'vin dismounted from the fledgling Blue, patting its' head, and scratching briefly behind the eye-ridge. "Thanks for the ride, kid." He gestured him off. "I suppose I'll catch a ride down, later."
He turned, and strode into the Weyr proper, glancing around, briefly. He eyed R'enh, and nodded. "Afternoon, sir. You invited the Bronzeriders, I hear... So, why me?" He gave the Weyrleader a level look. "Regolth died at Ista. I'm not a rider anymore."

D'vin comes, the Weyrling has brought him. announced Mnoranth before he heard footfalls coming his way.
He smiled a welcome to the older Bronzrider or rather former Bronzrider. He still had difficulty with the concept that his lifemate could some how be gone and leave him behind.
I am strong. I am not going to leave you Renhmine 'I know my dear" he said pouring love into his link.
"Afternoon, sir. You invited the Bronzeriders, I hear... So, why me?" He gave the Weyrleader a level look. "Regolth died at Ista. I'm not a rider anymore."
He could see the unimaginable pain just in the way the man stood there. He turned back to the table and picked up a mug which he proceeded to fill with hot fresh klah. "Klah?" he asked but shoved the mug at the man anyway.
He looked into the man's eyes "I'm sorry for your loss. I can't even begin to fathom what it must be like." he took a breath. "You may not be a rider anymore, but you have a lifetimes knowledge in your head that we need. Come on man, you can see it all around you." he crossed to the other side of the council table.
Picking up a chart he brought it over. "We have thread on its way soon and not enough dragonriders to protect all of Pern. We'll be lucky to protect these islands with what we have."
He looked up "We need you D'vin, we need your knowledge, we need your skills. If you are willing, I have a job for you."

As R'gant made his way to the council room he paused for a moment before going in. Usually when a meeting like this was called he'd be able to hear the bustle of chatter from outside. He could only hear a low hum that was barely comprehensible. There were so few riders now. With only a handful of bronze riders his and Xanith's position in the Weyr had never been so important.
Standing a bit taller, R'gant made his way into the council room and found that only their Weyrleader and Darvin were inside. He inclined his head in R'enh's direction before making his way to the opposite side of the table. He caught the last bit of the man's words and his brow kneaded with curiosity. This should be interesting.

Imahyth gave B'lor a lift to the Weyrleader's quarters, then went to sun on the Heights along with Star, who sent B'lor an image of curling up on the dragon's back. He had just come from bathing his dragon by the lake, so B'lor paused briefly at the door to make sure there were no oil spots on his clothes. Normally, he never would have attended a council meeting without being dressed to the nines, but desperate times called for desperate measures.
He knocked on the door to announce his arrival, then stepped into the room. B'lor half bowed to R'enh, a smile on his face. "Greetings Weyrleader, bronzeriders..." He blushed faintly, remembering that there was only one other bronzerider in the room, "...D'vin." He took a seat, waiting politely for the meeting to begin.

"Work!" He grunted. "Work, work, work. I get dragged from Hold and home to work for a dragon... Then I get one, and I have to work to become a rider... Then I become a Rider, and I have to work to earn a rank. Then work to make my Wing the damned best of Pern... Now Regolth goes off, and still I have to work? Bah!" He chuckled, and smirked at the end of his short rant.
"Yeah, alright. Just cut the damned flattery and tell me what you need." He sat down, and drew heavily on his klah. "Keep talking like that, and I'll almost feel human."
He nodded to the pair, as they entered, and grunted response, not even seeming to notice B'lor setting him aside from the Bronzeriders.

R’enh acknowledge the other riders as they arrived. He nodded to B’lor his Imahyth had almost made him Weyrleader instead of R’enh and he respected what he seen of the man during their trek through the islands. Then his leadership of the team that brought back the little fire lizards had proved a success.
He looked back at D’vin as the man grumbled and then laughed as he chuckled at himself.
"Yeah, alright. Just cut the damned flattery and tell me what you need." He sat down, and drew heavily on his klah. "Keep talking like that, and I'll almost feel human."
He gave him half a smile, he knew the man had to do something to cover the immense void in his soul left by the loss of his lifemate.
“There is so much to be done, and so few hands we need all possible resources to fill the voids.” He started. “I’ve asked L’yst the bluerider to be our Weyrling Master and he has accepted the post. We won’t have a full class for a few months yet but he still has the small group he managed to bring with him.” He looked around the room and then back at D’vin.
“However, we do not have an experienced Candidate Master.” He took a breath. “I would like you to fill that post. We have a clutch coming soon and a batch of candidates to round up. In the meantime we need to train and get ready for the Threadfall that’s coming.”

He grimaced, and swore under his breath. "So I get to play with kids all day? I thought you said it was a job," he murmured sacastically. "Yeah, I can do that. How many of 'em, and where can I find 'em? By the time the hatching comes around, they oughta be ready to go up... Even if it is a bit short of time. Ah, well." He shrugged, and drained his klah, chuckling, as he glanced around at the others.
"Well, then. What do the rest of you fresh-hatched weyrlings have to add? Four of us! Shards," he growled, "And a Weyr this size... We're going to have our hands full, and half again."
He sighed, closing his eyes, fingers tapping at the edge of the table quietly, with a rhythmic drumming.

He half smiled as the irascible new Candidate Master agreed to accept the job.
”How many of 'em, and where can I find 'em? By the time the hatching comes around, they oughta be ready to go up... Even if it is a bit short of time. Ah, well."
He shrugged “There’s the rub,” he said “We don’t know how many there are or where they are. Those that were candidates are probably wondering too. I’d imagine you should start with whoever is in the barraks tonight and go from there. If we need to search then get a searchrider reviewing possibilities. I’d like to present a good selection to Chalaraths clutch.”
He knew it was a tall order with their current numbers but he had full confidence it the older man.
He took the others in with his gaze and started on the rest of the meeting. “We have a rider posted on the heights to watch the Red star through the eye in the mornings and it isn’t quite in position yet so we may have some time before Threadfall reaches us.” He took a deep breath. From my count we have just over 100 dragons including the injured, aged, and weyrlings. From that we can make probably two full wings with replacements or three under strength wings. I’d prefer the strongest structure to fight thread so…” he turned to R’gant.
“R’gant I would like you to be my second for the Weyrleaders wing. Most of the training and management will fall on your shoulders for the time being.”
Then he turned to B’lor “I would like you to take Wingleader of the other wing. Choose who you wish for your seconds. If you two can come up with the wing rosters we’ll make it known to the riders where they belong.” He smiled, they would have to do the best with what they had. “Here are the lists of riders, which may be incomplete, “ he added pushing a skin over to B’lor to share with R’gant.

R'gant gave Darvin and R'enh conversation his full attention although it had nothing to do with him; at least not directly. So Darvin would be the candidatemaster. That sounded like a sound decision to him. He wondered what else R'enh had up his sleeve. The Weyrleaders eyes were on him and R'gant stood a bit taller.
“R’gant I would like you to be my second for the Weyrleaders wing. Most of the training and management will fall on your shoulders for the time being.”
R'gant's eyes widened for only a moment as the news washed over him. Shocked expression gone, he nodded. "I won't let you down," he said, grinning a bit. He was happy with this assignment. It meant that R'enh trusted him and that pleased him immensely. He nodded his congratulations to B'lor and then turned his attention to the list of riders.
"Let's hope the batch of riders we have are ready to get back into the swing of things." He said to himself as he looked through the names. Most were still mourning, others were still stiff after their journey. He'd have to get them all in shape, but most importantly he had to get them to work together and trust one another. Coming from different Weyrs, most didn't know Adam from Eve. He really had a tough job ahead of him.

D'vin was appointed as Candidate Master, which sounded like a good decision. As a former rider, the man would be able to tell the candidates everything they needed to be prepared. His son, Lorcan, would probably be among D'vin's students. B'lor still though his son was too young, but Lorcan was stubborn. He would stand if he wanted to.
B'lor sighed when he heard how few riders they had. A hundred was less than half of what usually counted as a "full" Weyr. And this was from every Weyr. If there were only 100 here, how many had been left in the North...it sent a shiver down his spine.
He pushed that thought away, as he did with so many thoughts now, and returned his attention to the matter at hand. R'gant was to be the Weyrleader's Wingsecond. That was a big job, and it must be strange for the Weyrleader to pick someone he barely knew. The Weyrleader and his 'second were usually close, almost like brothers.
He merely nodded when R'enh told him that he was to be a Wingleader. B'lor felt oddly devoid of feeling about it. At Fort, he would have been over the moon if he was given such a prestigious position. Now, they just had to get down to business. This wasn't going to be an easy job. Usually, a new rider was added into the Wing gradually, giving everyone time to adjust. Now, every rider was new, and they had to make it all mesh before Thread fell. He leaned over, looking at the hide with R'gant. He wasn't sure yet who to choose as his second. "Maybe we should just decide who goes where with a lottery," he suggested, since most of the names on the hide were just that to him, names. He didn't really know anyone except for the Fort riders and Roux. "If there's trouble with some riders, we can switch them out later."

D'vin sat back, and grunted, visibly startled by those numbers. He frowned, and murmured an oath under his breath, mentally sorting through everyone he'd met; All the faces he'd yet to put names to.
He realized, abruptly, that he only knew two survivors from Ista. Z'ris, on Raeth... And Tael, her Ralianth still crouched outside the infirmary, color and life slowly bleeding from its' wasting husk.
He drained his klah, pondering all the other faces he knew from Ista, but had never met. Names he'd never had the chance to learn. He thought of his former wing... And his frown deepened.
"How long've you two been in harness," he inquired of the new Wingleader and Wingsecond, "And have you ever led wings before?"
He sat back, staring imperiously over his klah, his gaze steady, inquisitive.

”I won’t let you down. Let's hope the batch of riders we have are ready to get back into the swing of things."
He half smiled and nodded. He and R’gant would end up working very closely but for now he would have to rely on the man to organize and begin molding the wing into a cohesive unit. They were lucky that the majority of the wingriders they currently had were experienced at least.
“They have to be and soon.”
"Maybe we should just decide who goes where with a lottery, If there's trouble with some riders, we can switch them out later."
“Good idea.” He agreed. He was glad that B’lor was working with him so well. He didn’t know the man and their roles could have so easily been switched. Imahyth was a strong and vigorous bronze and could just as easily claimed Chalarath and the Weyrleader’s Quarters. In fact if he wasn’t able to get everyone working together and thinking of themselves as a unit to fight the incoming menace they might end up with a new leader the next time around.
That thought made him wince. Maram herself was important to him now though he hadn’t had a chance to really explore how important. He knew it would be very difficult to lose what he’d so recently found with the Weyrwoman. He set that train of thought aside… for now.
"How long've you two been in harness, And have you ever led wings before?" he heard from Darvin.
Suddenly he was very upset to have lost such a fine pair as they must have been… How they could use that expertise in the air but sadly he wouldn’t be able to join them on dragon wings. But he could provide his knowledge and experience in other ways.
He smiled in the man’s direction and then back at the other two. “It wouldn’t be a bad idea to exchange some history,” he said.
