Aloenna had eaten a lot this morning, and Echo, being new to this sort of thing—especially since she was no dragonrider and had never fed a dragon before—had just let her eat. She hadn’t even needed to do it for Dragonhealing, when a rider was unable to, because usually the rider was able to. She didn’t know how much to feed her small green mini-dragon. No, that wasn’t right, they hadn’t called them mini-dragons. What had they called them…. Fire lizards. Lizards that could breath fire. The didn’t look like lizards, though, they looked like dragons, mini-dragons, with their multifaceted eyes and their forked tails. But they were different from dragons, and Echo could see that right off the bat. Different musculature in the forepaws and even in the overall makeup. ‘Firelizard’ just didn’t match; she liked the sound of ‘mini-dragon’ or ‘dragonet’ better.
Thus, fully fed, stomach distended, Aloenna slept in the girl’s arm. Echo petted the small green, and felt overjoyed at being one of the few to actually be able to have Impressed to one of these. If it could be called Impression. She at least felt a sort of a presence in her mind. Now that presence was sleepy. Aloenna didn’t need meat anymore. No meat, no meat. Just tired, just sleeps. More sleeps. Her-big-pink-thing was comfortable, she had chosen her-big-pink-thing well. She slept in her-big-pink-thing’s arm, the crook of it. Not really slept, because Aloenna kept thinking about meat, and how she would be hungry, but to all outward appearances, the little green slept.
Echo had stuck her head in the infirmary a second, ducking in to see if everyone was fine. After she had done what she needed to do in the infirmary, she left. She wasn’t particularly tired this morning, as oppossed to yesterday morning. It had the rush of leftover adrenaline and the fact that she had stayed up later for the past couple nights that weighed in on her sleeplessness. That, and her mind just would not shut down. But last night was wonderful; she had been able to sleep, and the comfort of Aloenna's mind with hers... except when the Green woke her up to eat, Echo had slept soundly.
So, with Aloenna in her arm, safely nestled there so that Echo might have a free range of movement, Echo found herself at the Weyrbowl’s lake. Like yesterday, the water of the lake beckoned to her, and she slid toward the lake as if on a pair of wheels. Her brown eyes were lost in the shadows of the morning, but she knew where she was going. If there was one place she knew where to go, it was the Weyrbowl’s lake. Every Weyr had one, and it was one of the most-travelled-to places in the Weyr besides, maybe, the kitchens. But Echo didn’t want to go to the kitchens right now, did she?
She wasn’t hungry, and she wasn’t tired, so the next best thing was the lake, of course. Once at the lake, she sat down gently, her eyes trained at the water but her head trained somewhere else. Echo’s hand trailed over Aloenna’s smooth body. The firelizard was already feeling scaly, so she knew the firelizard would be like dragons in the way of oiling their hides. She’d do that later. Right now she would sit and let her mind wander…

Post by L'yst and Woreth on Jul 19, 2010 13:31:02 GMT -5
L'yst had not slept as well as he would have liked. After the way he'd departed the hatching sands and S'ren, he'd been both angry with himself and with the other man, though he knew he had no reason to hold onto that anger. What had happened between them yesterday morning would have to be chalked off to another moment of Flightlust, though that though saddened L'yst more than he cared to realize.
Now, having talked only briefly with R'enh since they'd arrived, L'yst knew he was at least the acting Weyrlingmaster, though he had yet to be truly confirmed in that position, and there were no guarantees he would be. Still, it was the weyrlingmaster's duty to see to the newly Impressed, and so L'yst had decided that that should include the firelizard hatchlings as well.
Knowing that the riders who'd gotten a lizard would know how to tend them, he didn't worry about R'enh, or B'lor, or Z'ris, but he wanted to check in on the others. He'd stopped by to see Tobias first, and once he'd found his weyr, he knew that the tanner would do just fine seeing as how he'd taken up with a greenrider and the pair seemed rather content together.
Now, he set off to find the others. As he walked across the bowl, he spotted one of them and made a beeline for the lake.
"Morning," he said as he approached. "Haven't been formally introduced. Name's L'yst. I'm acting as weyrlingmaster at the moment. Are you the one who was taking care of K'vys and Oneth?" He asked, recalling something he'd heard when he'd checked on the boy. "Mind if I join you?" He gestured to the spot beside where she sat.

Chloe slept lightly and heard the little lizard making noises in the middle of the night. Pushing Tobias out of bed to take care of her took a bit of work. When he finally woke he was reaching for her and she giggled slapping his hands and telling him to go take care of the little green.
She dozed off but soon felt him return wrapping her in his big arms. When the morning came she was awakened by a different green.
Chloemine, I need oil. And she got the image of itchy patches in several places. She rubbed the sleep from her eyes and answered. ”Alright my love, but bath first.”
She threw on a shirt and light skirt before grabbing some oil and climbing aboard for the short trip to the lake. Once they arrived her beautiful minty green beauty dove into the water then came back closer to shore and Chloe tucked up the skirt to wade into the shallows.
Grabbing sand she began the scrubbing process. “I think you’re getting bigger” she pouted but then grinned. Alorath was a dainty green and quite lovely. After a while she told her to go rinse. Then she looked around to see others at the side of the lake and approached them.
“Good Morning!” she said cheerily. "I'm Chloe and that's Alorath" she said to the young woman. L'yst she remembered from their earlier meeting in her weyr when he'd come to check up on Tobias.

Post by Echo and Anayeth on Jul 19, 2010 14:54:13 GMT -5
Echo watched the water move slowly, ripple on the shore, and then fade back out. She knew this was normal for a Weyr’s lake. But this seemed so different. It was not like Fort Weyr’s lake, nor like any Weyr lake she had seen, but it was a lake nonetheless. She pushed her foot toward the water, but it did not reach, and she didn’t really want to scoot closer. Besides, the lake might have been cold, and Echo didn’t actually feel like feeling the cold wetness on her toes. Not this early in the morning, at least.
The girl was about to stretch and lay back when she heard a man call ‘Morning’ to someone. She supposed it wasn’t her, as there could be other people in the Bowl, and was surprised to see the man stop right above her. Aloenna didn’t move from her sleeping position as Echo tried to crane her head up to see the man standing above her. Judging by the guy’s shoulder-knots, he was a Bluerider. But there was an extra little knot, too. Echo was confused as to what that was.
The man introduced himself as L’yst, and said he was a Weyrlingmaster. Ah, so that’s what the shoulder-knot was. Echo had seen it once before on the former Weyrlingmaster of Fort Weyr—she’d only seen him two times, but the knot was not something one forgot. “Oh, um, of course you may sit here, Weyrlingmaster L’yst!” Echo said, and unconsciously shifted her weight over so that he may sit, even if he had enough room anyway. It was merely an unconscious movement, one that most people would have done.
“Well, actually, I only took care of Oneth.” Echo continued a little sheepishly, leaning back on one arm while depositing Aloenna in her lap. Her dominant hand, the left one, came up automatically to clear minute strands of brown hair out of her face. It was a habit of hers, one she couldn’t actually quit… at least it wasn’t as bad as biting her nails or chewing her cuticles. “Ceinwen, the herbalist Healer, took care of K’vys. But he will be fine,” Echo actually smiled at this, remembering K’vys’s wounds. “It was only chaffing, something I am sure most riders have gotten—at least that I’ve seen treated.”
She looked at the man for a second, her brown eyes flashing over his blond hair and fine figure. “I’m sorry. You’ve introduced yourself, and I haven’t even given you my name.” Echo ducked her head with a brief blush, and her fingers trailed over Aloe’s pale green back. “I’m Echo, and this is Aloenna. I’m a Dragonhealer.” She paused and looked up at L’yst, choosing her next words carefully, as if he were scrutinizing her. “I’ve got to oil her soon… don’t I? She’s just like a dragon that way, I’ve seen. I have oil here somewhere…” But Echo didn’t move to retrieve the oil from her left side, where she had set it.
From off to the side of her, another person cried out a 'morning.' This time it was a distinctly femenine voice, and she turned to look. The woman coming up to them said her name was Chloe. The Green behind the woman was Alorath, and Echo suddenly knew two more riders. "Hello! I would greet you two more formally, but my little green, Aloenna, won't let me move. I'm Echo, resident Dragonhealer." Her face clouded for only a second with what might have been confusion. "Dragonhealer and, in Fort Weyr, I was a Candidate. I suppose I'd have to be Searched again...?"

Chloe crouched to get a better look at the tiny green replica of the one Tobias had impressed. She smiled “She’s beautiful!” she said with a smile at the young dragon healer.
On the second part she thought she could help a little. She’d ridden search several times so she turned and asked Alorath. The green dragon came closer and looked carefully at Echo and as she did she became a little excited.
“Oh yes this one” she said and Chloe arched a brow turning back to the young woman. “Consider yourself searched” she grinned “I like searching Chloemine, When will we do that again?” and felt the green’s head nudge her playfully.
“I’ll tell the Candidate Master as soon as I find out who that is…” she smiled at L’yst before turning around and rubbing the eye ridges offered to her for the treatment.
“Now, my love, where do you itch… oh never mind that” she said. “I’ll just oil all of you!” she dipped into her pot and began the oiling process at her nosey nose.

L'yst chuckled a bit at how quickly one of Echo's concerns was addressed.
"Looks like you'll be standing on the sands after all," he said with a smile. Then glancing back at Chloe he added, "If I find out who will be candidatemaster I'll also make sure they know about Echo here."
Turning back to Echo L'yst spoke to her, "It's nice to officially meet you. I'm sure Oneth appreciated your care. Now, about Aloenna there. From all we can tell, she's like a miniature dragon, so yes, that means you'll need to oil her, quite often in these first days especially. If you have some oil around I can help you this first time if you'd like? Perhaps if you have any other questions I can try and answer them as well. Though I don't know nearly as much about these little guys as I do about their big counterparts."
L'yst couldn't help but watch the tiny green, wondering what kind of bond she developed with hers. Was it as strong as that between a dragon and his rider? They had much to learn about the little miniature dragons.

When Chloe said that Aloenna was beautiful, Echo grinned like nothing before; “Thank you, Greenrider.” She said, her brown eyes shining with the thanks she felt flow through her. Even more thanks felt like it would explode out of her when Chloe said she might as well consider having been re-Searched and into Candidacy again. If Echo had had less manners, her mouth probably would have dropped wide open in a display of sheer surprise. But she turned the surprise into a large smile instead, “Again, thank you, a lot.” She couldn’t find any other words to say. She just couldn’t.
As the Greenrider turned to oil her dragon, Echo heard L’yst talking about oiling. Her shining smile was turned to him, “This wouldn’t be the first time she was oiled; I oiled her last night before heading off to bed. I oiled her whole body, except her face near her nose and around her eyes. I wasn’t sure about that, since she isn’t exactly like dragons.” Aloenna chirped as she unfolded herself and stretched. Her tail and hind legs stretched all the way down her legs, as Echo had straightened her legs when Chloe came, and her head rested slightly on Echo’s stomach. She looked quizzical, and slightly like a feline if it were to lie on its back. Her wings were fully extended, but slightly caught by Echo’s legs. She peered blurrily at L’yst and then stretched her front paws up toward Echo’s stomach. Echo laughed.
“Well, I’ve actually got more oil right here. And I can let you see her. She’s been held by two other people before you, and she seems fine with it. As long as you don’t try to attack me, because then she gets protective. Yeah, even a day-old mini-dragon gets protective.” Echo made a joke about that. “But she doesn’t talk. Not like dragons talk. I don’t even think she knows how to talk.” She shrugged, and felt the tiny Green mini-dragon’s claws pull at her shirt.

Post by Maram and Chalarath on Jul 21, 2010 11:21:56 GMT -5
Chalarath was adamant that she wanted a nice refreshing swim and scrubbing before Maram could even consider going off to do any other work.
"All right, love. Take us to the lake." Maram said having positioned herself onto Chalarath's back. The golden queen flew across the Bowl, preening a bit at the calls from her fellow dragons before she landed by the lake, which was occupied with the small green.
I can be gracious and share, Chalarath told Maram, which caused her to chuckle. I want to soak first..
Maram slid off Chalarath's back as the beautiful gold beast waddled her way into the water.
Morning Alorath, the waters look refreshing. Chalarath said to the green as she sank into the depths of the waters with an almost audible sigh.
Maram, meanwhile walked over to the pair sitting on the side. She waved to Chloe who was scrubbing away at her green.
"Good morning. How are you all today?" Maram said as she approached.

L'yst listened to Echo talk about her little firelizard and he nodded his head in approval. She'd already oiled her. That was good, very good.
“Well, I’ve actually got more oil right here. And I can let you see her. She’s been held by two other people before you, and she seems fine with it.
"That's alright, Echo. You seem to be doing a great job so far. I'm sure you will continue to do so. If she's anything like her dragon counterpart, she'll have multiple lids on her eyes, so while you should be careful oiling her head, she should protect her eyes on her own."
L'yst looked up as the golden queen started to soar in their direction.
Turning back to Echo, he added, "Feel free to come and find me if you ever have any questions. While I'm no expert on firelizards, I know a fair share about raising newly hatched dragons."
Just then, the Weyrwoman and her golden dragon, Chalarath landed. As Maram approached, L'yst stood.
"Weyrwoman, good morning to you as well."

Maram nodded to both L'yst and Echo, exchanging a few pleasantries.
I want a scrub. Came the haughty message from her queen.
Maram chuckled. "Looks like our queen calls," she said lightly as she waded into the lake, beckoning Chalarath to the shallower waters.
Reaching down to the base of the lake, she pulled up handfuls of the sands and started to rub them over the golden hide.
"How is Alorath today?" Maram called over to Chloe who was also in the water with her dragon.
Up above my forequarter, please.
"Yes, your majesty," Maram joked with her dragon, patting her playfully before using the sands to scrub the spot she'd requested.
"Okay, go rinse in the deeper water and then we'll oil you." Maram told Chalarath, patting her once more then wading out of the water. The washing process itself had taken some time. She was surprised to see that L'yst and Echo had remained along the side of the lake.
"It is a nice day to relax by the waters, isn't it?" She asked as she joined them. She motioned for Chloe to join them when she was finished as well.
Once everyone was gathered, Maram shared her idea.
"I'd like to send out a few search teams, to further explore the islands. We've heard that there are some structures that might have been Holds, crafthalls, or other areas. We'd like to know more about what we've got available to us and how much work it might be for us to get them usable again. Would you two," she looked to L'yst and Chloe, "gather up some other riders and any non-riders who would like to help and send off a few teams to really explore the land in depth and see what we can find?"

"I would be honored," L'yst told Maram when she asked if he would help organize the teams to go and explore the Hold areas.
"Echo, would you like to join us?" He asked. Once she responded, he stood, looked towards Chloe and said, "I'll see who else might be interested while you finish up here. We can be ready to go within the candlemark."
"Woreth, let some of the others know the plan and have them meet us in the corner near the hatching sands in one candlemark if they are joining us.
Done. Some will join us.
"Now to see about any of the others who might be able to explore on foot a bit as we go. If you'll all excuse me, I'll see who I can gather up."
L'yst nodded to all of them and made his way away from the lake. He wondered if S'ren would be one of them joining in the exploring teams or not. Shaking his head, he decided that dwelling on that would probably not serve any purpose, seeing as how it seemed S'ren already had a mate.
Putting his mind towards his task. L'yst gathered up people who brought basic supplies for such a mission and was ready to go when the time came.
End L'yst -- moving to the Hold

Alorath reported that the beautiful queen had spoken quite politely to her and even had offered to share the water.
I like her Chloemine and Chloe giggled.
“Good morning” she called back with a smile from where she was oiling the minty green hide. It was a big job but not as big as the one facing the Weyrwoman.
“I’d be happy to help you oil once Alorath is finished” she offered. The two of them would get it done so much more quickly.
”… gather up some other riders and any non-riders who would like to help and send off a few teams to really explore the land in depth and see what we can find?"
She grinned at the Weyrwoman. “I was just out there yesterday with the Tanner Craftmaster, we found a mill on the river just below where the water from the Weyrlake flows into a stream toward the bay. Sorry, I didn’t have time to report that before the hatching.” She blushed a little knowing she was probably telegraphing her feelings for said Tanner.
“Um, I’m sure we’d be happy to go out again. I know he wants to find a good place to set up his tanning.”
Just then a tiny green firelizard came flying in to land against Alorath’s head rather clumsily and she laughed. Turning she saw the big Tanner coming across the sands of the bow toward them and she waived.
“Here he comes now” she said.

"Beauty! Come back here!" Tobias called as he half-jogged the last few steps across the Bowl, eying the little green that had zoomed away from him almost the moment she'd seen Alorath. The little thing had grown rather attached to her too almost in an instant.
"Boy, she's sure going to keep me hopping." Tobias added with a bit of a puff as he arrived where the others word.
"My lady," he said, turning to Maram and addressing her as befitted her status. He nodded towards Echo, and moved a step closer towards Chloe with a half-smile on her face.
"I must say I've got alot to learn about dragonkind and their little counterparts, it seems." Just then Beauty decided she owed Tobias a bit of attention and zipped over to him, nearly colliding with his neck in the process.
Reaching into his pocket he pulled out a piece of leather he'd been working on as he held Beauty in one hand. Sitting the leather on his shoulder, he placed her there ontop.
"Ah, that is so much better. Doesn't hurt nearly as much when there's a wad of leather between her claws and my shoulder." Beauty nuzzled up against Tobias's neck as he grinned like a proud papa. He was totally lovestruck by the little green and it clearly showed on his face.

Echo Post
Her-big-pink-thing had fed her, and her hide didn't itch right now, so she felt at ease. She certainly looked at ease, stretched out across Her-big-pink-thing's lap. She thought about meat. Meat was good, and she was getting hungry now. But she wasn't hungry enough to start asking. She just lay there. Her very pale green hide glowed as she recieved attention. And Aloenna was happy.
But Echo, the poor girl, had no idea that Maram would come up. "Oh, uhm, thank you, L'yst." Echo said, nodding at him. But the girl had to stiffle a gasp as the Gold landed in the water and the Goldrider came toward the two. She was not normally nervous, sure, but this was the Goldrider she was talking about. Echo diverted her eyes as she unconsciously pushed her brown hair behind her ears. "Good morning, Goldrider Maram." She said, and though her voice was a smidgen smaller, though still calm.
The Goldrider walked back to her dragon and started washing her. Echo noticed she didn't wash all of the dragon, just the parts that, Echo realized, Chalarath found itchy. For the longest time, Echo watched her, her hand trailing up and down Aloenna's stomach. The firelizard was relaxed and confortable. Her eyes were closed, and she seemed to purr as Echo pet her.
When Maram came back, she declared that she needed to send out teams to the surrounding lands. Echo perked up at that, immediately forgetting the previous shyness of meeting the Goldrider for one of the first times face-to-face. A chance to go out of the Weyr to explore the surrounding lands? Count her in, count her in! Besides, they might need a Dragonhealer, on account of all the dragons going. "Count me in, L'yst! I'll just go get my things ready~" She pulled Aloenna up to her shoulder, and the pale little green hatchling hung over her shoulder, hanging on like it was nothing.
She nodded to Maram and Chloe, as well as the man coming in with the other little firelizard. "Thank you for talking to me!" She said, a little happily, and she turned and left to get ready.

Her eyes lit up as Tobias came toward them. And she turned reaching into the hood of her top pulled her hands forth to show him. Look what I got this morning!
She opened her hands to reveal a tiny comatose brown hatchling firelizard. Even has her hands opened so did his eyes whirling with the beginnings of hunger.
“Ah, it seems he is as much a bottomless pit as Alorath ever was.” She smiled happily at all those around. The back at Tobias she looked at the little leather perch he’d provided to his Beauty.
“I do believe I shall need one of those Master Tanner” she said with a little flare of her eyes. “I will need your services, as I don’t suppose my hood will manage to carry the little sloth much longer.”
Alorath’s eye whirled next to her hands with interest. “He is mine?” she laughed and pushed the huge head away “Silly, he is ours, yes! Let’s not frighten him shall we?”
She turned toward the Weyrwoman with her prize and grinning she walked closer and bowed to the great Golden Chalarath before holding out her hands for them to inspect.
“We’ll go and do the exploring you wish Wheyrwoman.” She said “soon as I feed this little one.”
