She’d gone with R’enh’s portion of the wing across the center of the island and keeping pace with the wingleader was never a real challenge when they flew in formation. The giant bronze had great stamina and was beautiful to watch flying but her lovely green Alorath was fleet and would fly circles around him for a while at least.
She was amazed like everyone else when he lead them to the bowl of a new Weyr. The black mouths of individual weyrs yawned across the northern face with larger ones on the south most likely for Bronze and Gold’s. She could see a lake and what had to be a feeding ground and then the vast bowl itself with its sandy bottom.
She leaned back into Tobias where he rode behind her. The man was tall and well muscled and they’d spent many a night together as they traveled. Astride the neck of the dragon they banked into the bowl and she flew slightly aside from the group that gathered to the south.
She flew toward the mouth of one of the weyrs and Alorath guided by their mind speech selected a second level maw to alight on its platform with a backflip of her wings and a gentle touchdown.
She slid down and helped unload all the nets to get the weight off and then pulled the riding straps. “Are you itching anywhere” she asked. She still had a fair supply of oil.
“Not right now Chloemine” she replied. “I’m going to sun on the heights” and she took off while Chloe chuckled.
They piled all their accumulated things against one wall for a moment. She invited Tobias to explore with her after they’d stacked everything. She smiled and walked toward the back of the weyr and as it got darker she saw wild glows growing in the darkness and began gathering them and put them in a basket to carry them with her.
The weyr was roomy for a green and she walked into the living area to find an unlighted brazier, more dead glow baskets, but a leather curtain leading out into the corridor.
“Oh look over here” she said. A sleeping alcove lay to one side with a very roomy couch carved into the wall there. She grinned at Tobias there was plenty of room for the two of them here. That is if he wanted to continue

Shocked and pleased, Tobias had stared down at the weyr bowl. Could they possibly have been this lucky to find something already begun? A hint of doubt crept into his mind as he wondered if this land would be affected by what had affected the other land, but from the looks of things so far, it was safe. As safe as any could assume it to be.
When Aloranth deposited them on the edge of one of the weyrs, Tobias looked around. He was used to sleeping closer to the ground, but this wasn't too far up and there were stairs leading to it. That was good. His eyes scanned the surface below, wondering if he'd be able to set up a tanning shop somewhere that would not disturb the others.
He'd think more on that later. He turned and helped shift their belongings against a wall and then walked around the room one step behind Chloe. It was, amazing actually. Tobias had not spent any evenings in the weyrs before, having no real need to, but this room was spacious. Spacious enough to house Alorath and maybe even a small workspace for himself. If, that is Chloe and Alorath didn't mind such things. He glanced over at her, a smile playing on his lips as he watched her hips sway with her steps. How had he managed to find someone like Chloe during all this chaos? Would it last? Tobias didn't have the answer to either question and he could honestly say he didn't mind. He was going to live, for by the shards, he was alive and he was not going to squander that gift of life now.
“Oh look over here”
He moved to stand behind her, his hands resting on the small of her back. What he saw in front of him surely looked promising. He grinned and turned her body towards his, capturing her lips in a kiss that held feelings he'd hardly been able to rationalize over these past few days.
"It's perfect," he murmured as he stepped back from her. Now was not the time for the things he was thinking of, but if he kept her in his arms, he'd have a hard time denying himself. His hands reached up to the curtains, deteriorating and decaying from unuse over time.
"Looks like I might have my work cut out for me," He added as he ran his hands over the old leather. It had been made well, that was for sure, but from the looks of it, it was old. Even as he touched the curtain, parts of it crumbled beneath his hand and the whole thing fell, landing atop his head with swirls of dust and debris. Tobias coughed and choked on the dirty air, pushing the now destroyed leather away from him.
"Yup, lots of work for me, it seems," he sputtered, trying to blink against the dirt that seemed to have filled the space when the curtain fell. He turned a grin towards Chloe even as he coughed against the dust. Tobias face was now covered in an almost graying hint from dirt of the old curtain.

She felt his presence behind her as he came to look at what she was showing him. Then she leaned into him and as she turned for his kiss her arms went around his neck and she stood on tiptoe. MMMM she liked tall.
"It's perfect" he said in a soft voice and moved over to the curtain dividing the space from the corridor on the other side. She could see his interest in the leather hanging there.
"Looks like I might have my work cut out for me,"
She turned back to the mouth of the weyr and went to grab their bed rolls to set them up on the bed. She'd fly out tomorrow to find some sweet smelling grasses to fill her mattress ticking. She'd emptied it in a rush when she'd shoved things into her bag but it would be big enough for the two of them.
She was sure she'd seen rushes by the water and would be able to sweep some of the accumulated stuff out of the weyr.
She heard him coughing and choking and ran back with the bedrolls to find him covered with dust and dirt and the curtain on the ground.
She started laughing and couldn't stop

He laughed along with her, even as he sneezed and sputtered up the dust.
Kicking the leather aside, he looked at Chloe. "I'll deal with that tomorrow. Though I'm going to need to gather some supplies to make the right mixtures to cure the hides."
Still choking a bit, he moved to help her lay out the bedrolls and caught sight of the mattress ticking.
"Oh, that would be nice to have," he turned a devilish grin to her as he scooped her into his arms and peppered her with kisses. It didn't last long as he nearly sneezed all over her.
"Sharding, dust," he grumbled, then helped her finish preparing a sleeping space for them for the night. Tobias slept good that night, with Chloe in his arms.
----
He was up even before the breaking of the dawn. He had so much to do he'd been unable to sleep any longer. Tobias planned to ask Chloe to help him scout out a good location to set up a tannery, as he figured most of the Weyr residents would not be too thrilled to have one under their homes. The odors could be a bit noxious to say the least.
As soon as she woke, he planned to ask her. His eyes darted over to the sleeping green, Alorath. Oddly enough, he found he no longer felt uncomfortable around her, not as he had with most other dragons he'd met. Perhaps it was just because she was Chloe's, or perhaps it was just that he'd been around her more. Either way, he sipped the cup of Klah he'd gone to procure, setting the other on the table for Chloe when she awoke. Hopefully, they could get a very early start to the day.

She chuckled again at the mess he'd made with the curtain and could tell the way he handled the leather that he knew what he was doing. Well except for the falling apart but he'd been doused liberally.
They planned to take off early in the morning to gather herbs, grasses, and maybe do a little exploring.
Of course he scooped her up and rubbed the dust all over her. Thumping his big chest with an ineffective rebuff as he grinned, she made him run down for a dip in the lake before coming back to her warm bed. No need getting their bedding filthy along with what was already floating around and on the floor.
It was all worth it once he enfolded her in those strong arms. She drifted off to sleep, probably better than she'd had since the disaster started.
The next morning she drifted in a bit of a fog and heard him coming back from wherever he'd gone and opened her eye to see a nice steaming mug of klah.
"mmmmmmmm" she said as she smiled at him and stretched.
She sat up and pulled the covers back then pointed at him and said "stay" she was decidedly undressed and they need to get underway not get sidetracked.
She did grin as she slipped into her clothes and after pulling on her jacket picked up the cup and crossed to sit on his knee. She made a strong pull on the nice warm beverage and then kissed the big tanner. "Thanks" she said.
Alorath was awake so she set the cup down after a few moment s and went to the dragon to throw on her flying harness. Then she rolled the ticking into a bundle and rigged a net to carry it. She sent her love to her beautiful green yet she could.
"You are happy Chloemine?" she asked "yes I am very happy" she said as she rubbed the eyeridges presented to her. The green's eyes whirled blue and green of contentment. She chuckled and threw her arms around her lifemate's snout where she butted against her.
"You ready? She called and started climbing up into her spot. After he'd joined her Alorath launched from her ledge and they soared out and down the side of the peak toward a river and the coast.
