L'yst had not expected to be sitting near the warm hatching sands, watching a small collection of tiny dragon-like eggs. Yet, here he was. He'd had a short time to go and change his clothes after the days of wearing the same thing, and probably could have gotten out of watching the little fire-lizard eggs as he'd just returned from the exploration group.
Truth be told, he'd wanted to examine them more closely and this was his chance. Woreth had gone off to find himself a hearty meal, which left L'yst alone with his thoughts. Many others had been coming and going, wanting a peak at the small eggs, though none had tried to engage him in conversation yet.
What would it be like when these little eggs hatched? Would it be like the day he had stood on the sands at Telgar and Woreth had emerged, calling to him. Could these little creatures truly be miniature dragons? So many questions, all still unanswered.
He glanced up to see who else had arrived to take a look at the little eggs.

OOC - Figured I'd start something new for egg watching in the hatching grounds for anyone who wants to pop in or stay awhile!

She’d seen the commotion as everyone crowded around in the center of the bowl and then the goldrider had commanded everyone to bring eggs? To bring them to the hatching grounds.
She was a bit shy and didn’t flow in with the crowd but did grab a bowl from the common stew pot and slipped into the back of the hatching grounds. She climbed into the stands and slowly began to eat the hot food.
Finally most of the people were gone but a rider, blue by his shoulder knot seemed to have been left on guard. She slipped back out of the grounds and went back for another bowl of the delicious stew and carrying it with her she went back into the grounds.
She went in and up to the dragonrider. “Here” she said “I don’t know if you had a chance to eat yet but this is really good.” She handed him the bowl and then turned to gaze at the little eggs buried in the sand.
“What are they?” she asked and then realizing she hadn’t introduced herself yet she smiled and added “I’m Brekkarial, but my friends call me Brekka.”

Alix had awoken to a fairly diffrent morning than usual. When she awoke the makeshift "camp" was a buzz with some fairly interesting news. Apparently a rider had arrived with a batch of small eggs. Supposedly where he found them there were miniature dragons!
Getting up she yawned tiredly. It would be a while before breakfast and then work began, so Alix decided to go by the hatching grounds and take a look at the mini "dragon" eggs.
Checking herself to make sure she looked presentable she walked up to the hatching sands from her bedroll that rested by the future candidate barracks. Immidietly she felt the heat from the heated sands come full force at her face. Thankfully she had sandles on and it made the sand's heat less unpleasent.
She saw the rider that was sitting down near the small eggs, and walked up to him. "So what were the mini dragons like when you found the eggs", she asked as she approached.

L'yst was almost sorry he had volunteered to take on an early shift of watching the eggs as he felt his fatigue creeping up on him. Not only had he flown to Southern and to the new Weyr with one of the little eggs, but now he'd opted to stay up and watch over them in case they hatched.
He very nearly dozed on the spot and would have had Brekka not approached him, startling him out of his state. Even as she handed him the bowl, his stomach betrayed him with a loud grumble. L'yst hadn't even realized how long it had been since his last meal.
"Thank you," he said kindly, taking the bowl from her and indicating she should sit and keep him company.
"Nice to meet you Brekka. I'm L'yst, rider of Woreth, who at this moment is luckier than I, for he gets to sleep." L'yst chuckled, amusement showing in his eyes. He could tell that dusk was settling over their little island. Night would come soon.
Yet it was clear from the sounds outside that many were not ready to sleep. Many still functioned on their own schedules, having difficulty adjusting to the time change from place to place.
He had just begun to answer Brekka's question when another young lady arrived. Now, she looked bright and chipper as if she'd just rested. It made L'yst wish that he could have rested. Why did he suddenly feel older than his 30 Turns looking at the two women? L'yst sighed and set his half-finished bowl of stew aside to answer their questions. He quickly introduced himself to the new arrival.
"Well, they are some sort of miniature dragon. We actually saw some flying around, but they startled quickly and vanished. They looked just like our dragons except small," L'yst help up his arm to indicate the size of the creatures. "It was rather mesmerizing to watch them. I don't know if we'll be able to keep them here once they hatch or if they will quickly scare away, like the ones we found did." L'yst stopped for a moment, suppressing a yawn. He reached up his hands and scrubbed at his face for a moment.
"Sorry, ladies, It's been a long day," he gave them a tired smile. "But I promised I would stay here and watch the eggs for the first candlemark until someone else comes to relieve me. They are hard already and could hatch anytime I imagine."

"Nice to meet you Brekka. I'm L'yst, rider of Woreth, who at this moment is luckier than I, for he gets to sleep."
She had sat down next to L’yst when he indicated she could stay and she chuckled with him. She felt way out of her depth. She was used to socializing with the women in the lower caverns and they rarely had much contact with the dragon riders. Most of her days up til now were spent weaving and her hands were tired tonight. After they’d arrived she went to work immediately at her loom.
She was beginning to fall asleep… she knew that. But she had to get a look at the eggs before she did. They were beautiful and perfect and tiny.
Another young woman came in and spoke to the dragon rider. Brekka pulled her feet up and rested her chin on her knees listening to them talk. She was rather used to being invisible so it didn’t really surprise her when the girl didn’t even see her there.
"Well, they are some sort of miniature dragon. We actually saw some flying around, but they startled quickly and vanished. They looked just like our dragons except small,"
“Wow” she murmured her thoughts spinning in all sorts of direction. She imagined the Weyrleaders would figure out what to do with them but in the meantime it didn’t hurt to dream.
She smiled as the girl launched into her questions and when the conversation lagged a little she interjected, “Hi, I’m Brekka.” In a soft voice to the other girl who had yet to introduce herself.

L'yst actually enjoyed the companionable silence for a short time, until he thought he might nod off again. Brekka's voice speaking to the other girl drew him back to the conversation. He gave her an encouraging smile, curious as to her name as well.
Oneth and His have arrived. They are not well. L'yst lost the track of any conversation between the two. L'yst had thought Woreth was sleeping, clearing he was wrong.
What? What's wrong? L'yst asked Woreth with a feeling of panic rising inside him.
Oneth is tired. He will heal with rest. He is worried about his. Xanith's is with Oneth's.
L'yst could feel his heart pumping. He'd feared K'yvs would push them to much once he'd left. He'd had to keep a close eye on the lad during the whole journey. When they'd known Beleeth was gone, he'd feared that he would lose K'yvs and Oneth as well. The two had crept into a special place in his heart. K'yvs wanted so much to prove himself and being the child of the leaders was hard.
I should go check on him, L'yst told Woreth. What if something happened to the boy now?
Rest. Mine. They are in good hands.
L'yst blinked and looked at the two women, reaching up he rubbed his hands over his face.
"Sorry, one of my weyrlings," L'yst closed his eyes and took a deep breath, "did not do well on the journey, it seems." L'yst heaved an exhausted sigh. Everyone was tired. Everyone had pushed themselves to their extremes. L'yst glanced back over at the fire lizard eggs. He couldn't leave until he was sure someone else would watch over them and alert the Weyr if they started to hatch.

She watched the eggs carefully but nothing was happening they were just sitting there.
She turned back to L’yst as the other girl also seemed lost in thought. But he was far away like she’d some of the other dragonriders do. Maybe he was talking to his dragon.
"Sorry, one of my weyrlings," L'yst closed his eyes and took a deep breath, "did not do well on the journey, it seems."
“Oh no” she breathed, “Is he going to be ok?” there had been so much death and destruction that she hardly knew where to go and what to do. She felt numb and just wrapped her arms around her knees even more closely. A tear went down her cheek unnoticed as her eyes fogged a little looking at the tiny eggs.

Alix just stood there gawking at the eggs, Would they be the same colors as dragons? How big would they get? Can you impress them like dragons? If so how, do they know like dragons do? All these questions and more were buzzing around in Alix's head as she sat down on the edge of the sands so that she wouldn't get to hot.
She listened as the Bluerider who said his name was L'yst of Blue Woreth answered her question about the mini dragons and what he saw. She was glad to hear that they would hatch soon, and she hoped that when they did that they wouldn't run away like the wild ones. She turned to the other girl who was there wanting to know about the eggs too who had said that her name was Brekkarail and that most people called her Brekka. Realizing that she hadn't introduced herself yet she said, "Oh I'm sorry my name's Alix", she said as Brekka interjected in a quiet voice.
After that there wasn't much conversation so Alix layed back to look at the eggs. "I wonder if they'll hatch right now? I hope so.", she thought. They had all been sitting there when L'yst took on a spaced out look on his face. She figured that he must be talking to his dragon so she turned back to the eggs. Then L'yst got up rubbing his face saying that one of his weyrlings wasn't feeling good. "I hope everything will be alright", she said as she looked at him. Then she looked at Brekka who had her head down with her arms around her legs. Concerned Alix asked "Are you all right".

“Oh no” she breathed, “Is he going to be ok?”
L'yst sighed, rubbing his tired face once more. He smiled at both Brekka and Alix, for she had introduced herself as well. Both had expressed concern for his charge. L'yst was near to exhuastion after his most recent journey and was feeling compelled to check in on K'vys.
Woreth, find out who is due to watch the eggs. Have them come.
After a moment's silence, Woreth answered, He comes.
It wasn't long before another rider entered the sands and moved towards L'yst and the two young women. With a nod to all, he sat down, ready to do his part.
"Alix, Brekka," he said quietly, looking towards them both. Oh, he wanted to stay and see if Brekka was indeed alright, but he needed to rest and take care of his other duties. "I hope you'll both excuse me. I've got to see to my charge." He smiled apologetically at them both. "It has been nice meeting you both."
As he stood, he put his hand on Brekka's shoulder as a small sign of understanding and support. Then, L'yst turned and left the hatching grounds.
End L'yst

"Are you all right"
The rider L’yst seemed tired and his relief came as they were talking. She lifted a hand to dash the tears away.
“I’ll be fine” she said in a voice that said no such thing. The magnitude of what they were going through had just hit her and even with the find of the little eggs there was no hope of protecting Pern from Thread.
"Oh I'm sorry my name's Alix",
Her smile trembled a little but she smiled. Everyone was going through this there was no need to draw anyone else into her little pity party.
The new rider watching the eggs didn’t seem quite as happy to have them here as the last one. She looked back up at he other girl.
“Most people call me Brekka, I’m a weaver.” She said. “What are you studying?”

Alix watched as the Bluerider L'yst apologized as he got out and walked out of the hatching grounds. He had to go check up on one of his weyrlings who wasn't feeling well.
Well she couldn't blame him, the journey they had all taken to get here, to this new home had been arduious and not without a price to pay.
She turned to Brekkarial as she said that she was ok. To hear that she was ok was somewhat reliving, the infirmary was getting fuller by the day. She watched with little intrest as the new rider came in for his shift to watch the mini-eggs.
“Most people call me Brekka, I’m a weaver. What are you studying?”
"Oh", Alix said as she looked back up at Brekka. "My name's actually short for Alixandra, but most people call me Alix. I'm a Healer apprentice."
"So Bekka where are you from", she said as she awaited for the other girl to answer.

A Senior Apprentice she’d been almost ready to ‘walk the tables’ to Journeywoman when the disaster had struck. Well now, she had the knowledge but not the tile. She smiled back at the other girls explanation of her name.
“Ok Alix it is” she said.
Healers were always in need for certain. But then all the crafts were needed now.
"So Bekka where are you from"
“Oh” she began “I’m from Igen Weyr” she started. “I was a weyrbrat, both of my parents were dragonriders.”
She looked back over at the little eggs. “These are just amazing.” She said. She’d attended hatchings before even stood at one though she hadn’t succeeded in impressing then.
“So, where are you from?” she asked.
