Apprentices are normally young between ages 14 and 21, though they can start as early as 8 years of age.
Apprentices were normally unmarried and would live with the the craftmaster for a time of at least seven years if they desired to reach Mastery level. However, most apprentices, after a few years, would set off on their own as Journeymen, before returning to complete their training and reach mastery level.
Journeyman is someone still learning, but do not receive the same day to day instruction as apprentices do. They have acquired enough of their craft to be able to complete the duties necessary, but they do not teach new apprentices, as that job is only done by craftmasters. Most members of any craft guild are journeymen.
Master Craftsmen - The highest regular rank is master which denotes the ability, right, and responsibility to pass the ways of the Craft on to apprentices and journeymen. Anyone who reaches this stage is entitled to be called Master.
Craftmaster - The head of the Craft Hall. Highest ranking member of that particular craft on all of Pern.
-----
Hold crafts - These crafts do not normally have a separate hall, as they are vital to the everyday life within the Hold. Many apprentices and journeymen in these crafts exist and the skill is based on by any who has acquired it (nor necessarily a craftmaster)
Cookingcraft
Farmercraft
Herdcraft
Hall crafts - These follow the clear structure outlined above and normally have a Hall specific to their craft. The Hall may be within a Hold or stand alone. These crafts take much longer to master and require more specialized training and knowledge.
Hall Crafts:
Healercraft
Harpercraft
Smithcraft
Minecraft
Beastcraft
Farmercraft
Vitnercraft (wine-making)
Glass-smithcraft
Tannercraft
Fishercraft
Weavercraft
Tailorcraft
Scribecraft
Tradercraft
Starcraft (n/a for this RP game)
Woodcraft
