Now that the possibility of Thread was gone, Pern could become the utopia the original settlers had once dreamed of. The future seemed so bright until it began to burn.

Battlefield Pern is set at the end of the Tenth Interval, centuries after Aivas was discovered and then forgotten. Pern has become a planet on the verge of open war. Of the two Weyrs that have survived, one is under the control of the merciless Overholder who intends to conquer all of Pern, the other makes its’ home on a continent that no longer has faith in the dragons and both Weyrs fight a war whose origins have become lost in the problems of the present.

Current Events

Southern Weyrwoman Gimna, poisoned by Overholder Hallek, has recovered enough to begin leading her Weyr once more as her gold Vandyith begins to glow brighter with every setting sun.

Southern Weyrleader T’ran, captured in battle by the North, has made no move to escape, says the Southern spies. With Vandyith’s flight coming up, will the Weyrleader return in time?

Northern Weyrwoman Kaelu is young and inexperienced in leading her Weyr. Her gold Kyrieth now guards a clutch of fourteen eggs, the small number proof that Kaelu may not be the right leader for Northern. Further proof resides in the aged gold Whistwyth who begins to glow as bright as the sun. Some say retired Weyrwoman Deanna should come back and lead the Weyr, at least until Kaelu is more experienced. With the Weyrleader lost in battle, Northern has no strong leadership.

The Holds of Northern slowly plot against the Weyr. Lord Hybrian of Telgar marries his sons into fellow Holds in his bid to become Overholder of the North. With legions of whers and an army to follow after, he keeps his cards close to his chest.
