Getting lost - fun? Evie gaped a moment as she felt him shift to the right, suddenly going around a corner. She grasped his hand tightly, frowning a little. Not knowing where she was happened too often for comfort. It wasn’t something she had any desire to do intentionally, it was just something that always came about.
“Fun,” she muttered, then took a deep breath. “Right. Fun.” Grinning a little in spite of herself, she said, “Who ever heard of a Lord Holder getting lost in his own Hold? You’ll have to describe the surroundings to me. If I am going to enjoy this, it will have to be more than simply wandering around in the dark.”

"Yes," he laughed, "But I'm not Lord Holder yet. I fully intend to get lost now, rather than later. First time for everything, right?" He smirked wickedly, and gave a reassuring chuckle, "We appear to be... In a hallway. Ahm... This way!" He chuckled, again, though it sounded a bit less sure. "We'll find another identifying feature this way, somewhere." He nodded. "I know it."
"Besides," he continued, nonchalantly, "With you beside my, I'm never lost." He chuckled, softly. "I know right where I am."

Blushing a little at his last words, she couldn’t help but think she felt the same way. There was certainly no one else who could have convinced her to let him lead her around the Hold - ah - blindly. More than that, when she was with him she felt like she belonged, not just a nuisance to get in the way or someone for people to pity. It was a good feeling. The only other time she ever felt like that nowadays was when she played.
She smiled. “I suppose I’ll have to stay, then.” With a start, she hastened to clarify her meaning, tongue tripping over the words as she realized she had meant exactly what she said. “That is, at least until - I mean - oh, shells,” she stopped walking, her free hand unconsciously pressing close against the wall, the Hold’s stone a familiar comfort.
“I hope that didn’t sound as forward as I think it sounded,” she sighed, eyes down.

His feet were moving as they talked. Well. Mostly. They moved along just fine until she spoke.
Left foot came down. Right foot came up. Left food stayed down. Right foot... Tried to keep moving. And, abruptly, as if tripping over some unseen obstacle, Darvin dropped down on his chest with a forceful whoosh of exhaled air. "Shells!" He snarled out, just before impact.
He grimaced, and grumbled, as he tried to make himself stand, again. He wiped his hands on his pants, and winced at the sensation of the coarse cloth over his scraped palms. He frowned at the slight traces of crimson left on the material from his left hand. He carefully reached out to her with his right hand, after checking that it wasn't scratched. "Ev? I'm here... I'm okay." A few grumbled oaths followed. "Slipped on, ah... A rock." He explained, somewhat lamely.

Evie jumped at the sound of Darvin falling, turning to face where he had been walking, worried. “What happened?” His grumbled oaths suggested he was hurt, though she couldn’t imagine what could have done it in the middle of the hall.
“Slipped on, ah... A rock.”
A skeptical eyebrow rose. “A rock?” Any embarrassment she might have felt earlier was gone, smirking a little at the absurd image of a man Darvin’s size tripping. She thought it likely her imagination was making it much more comedic than it really was. “Are you hurt?”

He laughed warmly, and leaned against the wall, briefly, shaking his head to clear it, "Ah, yeah... I'm fine. Don't worry." He cleared his throat. "Yeah. I'm fine."
"You can stay as long as you'd like, you know," he added, after a quiet moment, brushing a bit of dust from his leggings. "I fully intend to stay here, for some time, yet... Especially considering they're meeting about who will become Lord Holder as we speak. Who knows? I just might have a shot..." He sighed, quietly, and brought a hand up to rub his forehead, thoughtfully, "I didn't expect much of this... But I rather like how it's going." The smile carried into his voice.

“I think you have more than just a shot,” Evie grinned, moving to stand very close to him, wrapping her arm around his.
A pessimistic, uncertain thought occurred to her. Leaning her head against his shoulder, she bit her lip, hesitantly mentioning, “Of course, if they prove to be a basket of dimglows and decide to support someone else... you’re still staying, aren’t you? At least for some time?” Though she tried not to sound as terrified of that possibility as she felt, her quiet voice shook just a little.

He tilted his head, thoughtfully, and frowned, thinking, for a long, quiet moment. "No... I don't think I'll go. I'm not that person anymore. Not D'vin. Now, I'm just Darvin... And I think it's time I stay that way." He smiled, finally, and reached across himself, with his other arm, to brush his fingertips lightly over her upper arm. "Besides, I like it too much, here." He grinned, and laughed abruptly, as he realized, quite suddenly, an urge to kiss her. He turned toward her, and paused, lips pursed. "Hey, ah... Ev?" He chuckled, softly; His voice was slightly husky with emotion: Uncertainty and happiness, with an edge of wonder, and thoughtful clarity.

She was so relieved to hear he would stay, she barely noticed his fingers on her arm. She never imagined such a simple thing would make her so joyful - his laugh startled her out of her reverie, prompting a shy smile, ridiculously pleased he was happy. Feeling him move, she loosened her hold on his arm before realizing he was just turning to face her. The atmosphere changed as he spoke, the air around her becoming so emotionally charged she found it a little hard to breathe.
Oh, how she wished she could see him! It would be so much easier if she could see the way he was looking at her, instead of relying on a vague feeling, an instinct, hoping the uncertainty she heard in his voice justified the way her heart quickened...
She tilted her head up just slightly, nervous excitement visible on her face. “Yes?”

He almost froze, at the sheer emotion flickering across her face, like distant flashes of lightning, skin rolling lightly over muscles in the dim glow-light of the halls. He placed his other hand upon her other arm, lightly, and began to lean in toward her, his breath frozen in his lungs.
Thoughts fled him, like a ripple on still water, dissolving into the greater pool of serenity in his mind. Peace. Calm. And focus, too. He was more intent on this one thing than he had been in quite a long time. That collected calm. That certainty. That total focus... So lost in the silvery flow of his own movements, as if caught in the greater stream of life, itself... And consumed utterly by it. Beyond thought or words, he flowed down toward her, until the perfect completion of mind and movement, as his lips came to her own.

Even though she could feel his hands on her arms, there was nothing to tell her what he was doing as she waited in the dark. She reminded herself to breathe, tried to soothe her anticipation, wondered what he was thinking right now, never noticing the tiny shifts in weight and minuscule movements that would have warned her he was leaning toward her -
The sudden feel of his lips on hers made her gasp, her body going tense in surprise. Marveling at the gentle sensation, she relaxed, falling against him as her hands slid up his chest to rest upon his shoulders. Quiet ecstasy filled her, the entire world around her completely forgotten as she kissed him back. All of her senses focused on the moment, consumed by it. Nothing existed but the sound of her heart pounding, and him.

He almost pulled back, when he felt her shock and surprise, but his lips grew into a slight smile, against her own, as he felt her hands move up to his shoulders. He gently slid his arms around her lower back, leaning down, slightly, into the kiss. His breathing stilled, his heart seemed to skip a beat, as if everything were frozen for one long, endless moment. He was suddenly aware of everything, at all once. The scent of her skin, drifting up to him, soft and sweet; The scent of her hair, light, but fragrant. Her skin was smooth, gentle against him, the coarse fibers of her clothing brushing against his calloused palms. More than anything else, he could taste her lips against his own, feel them, silky smooth, against his; The kiss tasted sweet. Sweet, and cool, and warm, all at once.
When finally he breathed again, it was shallow, slight, breathless, as if he were unwilling to disturb the moment in any way.

A very soft, tiny sound of pleasure escaped as she felt his arms around her, a slight shiver going down her spine as he leaned into the kiss. She could feel his heart beating, her fingers lightly clutched at his shirt as she became as breathless as he was. Her heart pounded, cheeks flushed, and she smiled against him, infinitely happy.
Slowly, her right hand moved up from his shoulder along his neck, her fingertips just barely resting against the side of his face. They gently trailed along his jawline, taking in the feel of his skin. It somehow reminded her of worn stone - something she was quite familiar with. A sudden need to see his face rose, her left hand rising to mimic the right’s movements. She knew she would never really be able to see him, but at least she could gain an idea, something for her imagination to build on.
Reluctantly, Evie pulled away from the kiss, barely, just enough to be able to speak. “I’m trying to see what you look like,” she explained in a low voice.

He nodded, slowly, and smiled, warmly, holding himself still, as he felt her warm, smooth fingertips brush against his skin. It wasn't terribly smooth, but smooth enough, with the short, bristling hairs of a couple days without a proper shave. Lines were worn like grooves into his features; Laugh lines, smile lines, frown lines, all alike. His hair was short, easily maintained, and began shortly above his slightly bushy brows. His face has firmly carved features, from a strong jaw, to expressive cheeks, with slightly arching brows...
And all the while, he simply watched her, thoughtfully, reading the expressions to plainly written on her lovely features.

Searching curiosity played across her face as she tried to put together everything she felt. She smiled, silently laughing as she discovered he hadn’t shaved, the laughter slowly turning to a look of something similar to awe as her fingers traced the lines of his face. They lent an impression reminiscent of distinguished wisdom to the rest of his strong features. More contemplative now, she was reminded of their age difference - and she was glad to realize it still didn’t matter. He was fascinating. She wanted to know what sort of life he had lived that could etch such lines so clearly - she wanted to know everything about him, and was thrilled to think she might have the chance to. Grinning, her fingers quickly ran through his hair from the back of his head forwards, enjoying the feel of it, noting how short it was. Curiosity returned to her face as she very carefully ran her fingertips along the arch of his brow. “What color are your eyes?”
