Woreth's thinks they have found the hold and they are exploring there. She could tell the green liked the blue a bit and she laughed at her flirty girl's tone. She'd barely met L'yst and other than knowing he was now the weyrling master from his shoulder knot, she'd barely said a couple of words to him.
This wasn’t the same at all as it had been at Benden where she'd had a little status for Alorath's ability to attract the larger Browns and even Bronzes. Here she was just another green rider. Thankfully Alorath wasn't due to rise for a few months yet.
Then it struck her as she leaned against her current weyrmate... Tobias. He was hold bred, how would he ever understand. They'd talked yes, but never had they really discussed what actually happened when her beautiful green rose.
They were spiraling down toward the bottom of the bowl that was the mine. Tiered walls rose up on all sides and she could see veins in the walls and litter on the floor.
She slid out of her harness and dismounted. Dancer launched from her shoulder with a squawk with the disturbance and she just laughed as he fluttered back up to perch on the head of the big green like a little hat.
He likes me! she got the distinct impression that the little brown enjoyed the vantage point as he sent pictures to her from his view. Woreths wants you to stay together, and be careful. "Yes dear" she said like she wouldn't.
She squatted down to look at the detritus on the floor of the bowl and found plenty of evidence of Firestone chips. She picked up a few and put them In the pouch she carried at her waist.
"Can you let Woreth's, Mnoranth's, and Chalarath's know we have found a Firestone mine, please Alorath" she said out loud so Tobias could also hear.
She pointed to a wall a ways away. Looks like more in that seam right there.

It was true, why would the man want to worry about a firelizard? But Echo had seen… no, she must seriously have been wrong if she had thought she’d seen anything. But Aloenna was safely stowed away anyway, and the firelizard liked it that way. Echo could feel the dragon’s mighty thrusting wings as they took to the sky, and felt a moment of terror course through her body. The last time she’d felt a dragon take off, she had been escaping, still, from the mainland. But now everything was over… everything was over. They’d found a new home, and… and the clouds that had covered the mainland couldn’t be seen here yet. She hoped those clouds never reached Dragon Weyr.
Echo closed her eyes as they lifted, but her eyes sprang open of their own accord when they were flying. Flying! Echo would never get used to the air coursing over her, through her, whipping her long hair. She wished slightly that she had a riding cap, but the idea flew past in the wind, and, either way, it was too late. She clutched S’ren’s middle as they surged forward, faintly remembering running, flying, trying to save a Bronzerider.
They were flying for some time when Echo’s probing eyes noticed ruins below. She saw L’yst and Woreth dip down and was glad that she hadn’t been imagining things. “Oh!” She whispered, and was intensely sure that neither dragon nor rider could hear her. She had whispered it! Louder, she yelled to S’ren, “Wow, what a cool Hold! It’s a good thing we won’t have to create a new one!”

Tobias had to admit that riding dragonback had it's advantages. He got to sit directly behind Chloe and enjoy that closeness. Of course, Beauty seemed intent on having her share as well. She had nestled into his shirt, for goodness sake, during most of the voyage.
As the circled over the area they had visited previously, Chloe banked to the left and soon the mine was clear as day. Tobias could not believe what he saw. It was clear the mine had seen quite a bit of work in its time, but it was also clear that some areas had suffered in the meantime as one wall in the distance seemed to have shifted down.
Once they had landed, Tobias found himself standing, simply turning in circles as he stared up at the walls of the mine. They were much higher looking from down here than they had been from up in the air.
"I don't know much about mines, but I can sure do some exploring," Tobias said to Chloe as he moved towards what she had pointed out along one of the walls. He stepped over some stray rocks and drifts of debris until he was standing along the wall.
"That's definitely firestone and quite a bit of it. Even I know that! Come see, Chloe!" Tobias turned and beckoned for her to come closer.

L'yst and Woreth, who had already landed, circled around some of the Hold areas on foot, examining the outside of the structure. It looked sound. No telling what kind of damage might have happened inside, especially considering the main doorway had been damaged and allowed the elements in for what could have been hundreds of Turns.
The others have brought glows. They are ready to go in. Woreth told L'yst. I will wait out here.
L'yst chuckled. Holds were not known to support dragonfolk so Woreth's comment was amusing.
"Come, let's go explore," L'yst told the others and taking a basket of glows led the way inside.

She looked up at the walls of the mine and turned it a circle, it was certainly large… and old. Parts of the walls hand cascaded into the bowl and others were still retained with half rotten wooden structures.
She’d practiced flaming thread with Alorath and knew what the firestone looked like and this was it.
“My mother has returned to the Weyr” announced Alorath “Really? That’s wonderful!” she responded. With Sivarith back at the weyr that would double their chance for survival she thought.
"I don't know much about mines, but I can sure do some exploring,"
She watched him walk away toward the wall where she’d seen the seam of the ore. They’d have to call miners to get a professional opinion but this giant pit had certainly provided someone with firestone at some point and who knows what else. She smiled as she watched him walk away from her. He wasn’t another rider that was just following his dragons lust when he hung around a few days. This was something else and it was most certainly a crush at least on her side.
"That's definitely firestone and quite a bit of it. Even I know that! Come see, Chloe!"
He turned and called her over and she walked to him and under the arm he held out, encircling his waist with hers.

S'ren and Kasalith followed the other dragon's leads. When they began to land Kasalith swooped in behind them. S'ren smiled at Echo's words. "I'm glad too. I can't wait to explore."
Soon they touched down and, climbing down first, S'ren helped Echo from Kasalith's back. He edged toward the hold, his eyes taking in everything around him. Hefting his pack holding his water bottle higher up his shoulder, S'ren wasted no time entering the hold behind L'yst and the others.
The place could definitely use some work. Those were his first thoughts upon entering. The walls were cracked and caving in, rumble lay everywhere and it appeared as if the forest surrounding the place had made a home inside. This was what happened when a hold was neglected for years at a time. He couldn't help but imagine his own home now. Would it look like this?
He was sure the surrounding area wasn't safe, but he didn't see a reason to tag along behind everyone else. Diverging from the group, he slipped off on his own to explore.

Tobias turned just enough to press his back against Chloe, his own arms reaching down to caress hers that encircled him.
He turned, unable to stop himself from looking upon the woman who had touched his heart.
"It's kind of nice being here, alone with you," he murmured, reaching a hand up to her cheek as a quirky smile touched his lips. He leaned in and brushed a kiss against her lips. Somehow as he broke off the kiss, his foot stumbled on something on the ground and he started to fall, partly dragging Chloe with him. Tobias tried to stop the fall, but his efforts only resulted in his back slamming rather painfully into the wall behind him, as his shoulder rammed into one of the partially rotted hold beams. He could feel a sharp stab of pain in his upper back and shoulder, but right now he was more concerned with protecting Chloe whom he'd managed to drag down with him. Wrapping his arms around her, he landed with a bit of a thud on the ground. Chloe landing on his chest.
Tobias groaned a bit, but managed to mumble, "Are you okay?"

"It's kind of nice being here, alone with you,"
She smiled as he turned and his eyes and hand touched her face. She tilted her face to duck under his hat as he gently kissed her.
Then it all just fell apart. Later she would try to recall exactly what happened but it was like a blur. His foot slipped on something and he twisted around to try and cushion her fall with his body. He hit the timbers with his shoulder and she heard the crack.
"Are you okay?" he asked with a groan but her arm was twisted under him and it HURT.
“Chloemine!” she heard the anxious voice of the green and then another crack and pop of the rotten wood and suddenly Alorath was over them her wings extended as a wall of rock slid into the bowl.
She heard the scream of her lifemate tear through her as one particularly large one hit the leading edge of her wing.
Chloe screamed with Alorath and fought against the arms that held her pinned. Her breath came in ragged gasps and finally the rumbling stopped. She sobbed against his chest as the beautiful green staggered to the side.
She had protected them from the fall but her wing trailed broken as she furled the other and keened her pain to the four winds. Her head flailed from side to side as if looking for enemies to rend. Confusion filled the dragons mind.

Swooping into the sky with a deep throated cry, Sivarith raced to her daughter, her wings beating through the air with a ferocity usually reserved for thread exercises.
"I am coming, Little One," Sivarith called to the product of her blood.
She scanned the skies as she waited for a bearing. Alorath's mind was in turmoil and it took a second for the queen to separate the location from the pain. She tried to increase her speed, but the extra meals she had been eating were weighing her down somewhat. She grumbled, knowing Sorelle would have something to say about that.
As she swooped across the water, she flew low, staying away from the marine updrafts and chaos that happened when the cool water vapor met the warm skies. Her mighty wingtips tapped the surface, leaving behind an even trail of ripples as she went.

Tobias almost felt Alorath's pain as her cry rent the air. Then, Chloe's struggles against him seemed to make his already bruised and injured shoulder burn with an intense pain. Yet, he held on none-the-less.
"Chloe, Chloe, stop, listen to me." He tried to soothe her with words, holding her to him. When she finally stopped struggling and seemed to melt into a pool of tears in his arms, he held her gently to him.
"Tell me what's happening. Are you hurt? Alorath? Where is she?" Tobias didn't want to move until he knew that Chloe, herself, was not hurt, for fear he would hurt her worse if that was the case.
"Talk to me Chloe. Let me help you," Tobias whispered into her ear as his own voice cracked with emotion at the thought of what could have happened and what did happen.
Suddenly, two wildly chittering little beasts popped up above their heads. The images of pain and anxiety that they displayed as well as their anxious behavior seemed to only agitate the mood.
"Calm down," Tobias tried to tell the two, who were flittering around them like buzzing insects. Yet, neither seemed to heed his words. He shifted and felt a sharp stab of pain radiating from his shoulder down his arm. His face contorted into a grimace, which only seemed to aggravate Beauty all the more.
"Chloe, talk to me," he whispered, worried about her and what was happening. He could see Alorath, though he knew from her scream that something was wrong, but what could he do?

She sobbed, her mind connected to her life mate yet she could hear Tobias’ soothing words. She didn’t know how to separate herself from Alorath’s mind and the distress she was in.
"Chloe, talk to me,"
She gulped air “Broken, oh no” she gasped. “My arm… hurts” she could barely talk, she could barely function or tell what was happening. She tried again to roll away from him but his arms were tight around her. “Oh Tobias,” she sobbed “She protected us from the rock slide…. But, she’s hurt… she’s hurt.”
“Alorath” she yelled loudly above the keening of the dragon “You saved us! We’re ok. Ohhhh what are we going to do?”

"Your arm is broken?" He asked a bit sharply, letting her go. His own shoulder felt like it had been poked with a hot poker and he gritted his teeth at the movement, but Tobias tried not to worry Chloe. She already had too much on her mind.
When she shouted to Alorath, he had to close his eyes a bit at the loud sound. His head smarted a bit from the fall and the shouting definitely didn't help.
"Let me look at your arm," He told Chloe as he managed to sit up against some of the wall. He heard a shifting sound and looked up quickly, but thankfully, it was just the ground settling.
"Maybe we should get away from here first. Can you stand?"
"Beauty, CALM DOWN!" Tobias all but shouted at the green firelizard who was picking up on the feelings of pain from everyone around her. The little green gave a squawk and vanished.
"Oh no," Tobias groaned, not sure what had just happened. But Beauty was gone, vanished into thin air just like the dragons could do. But, would she return? He felt a gnawing emptiness at the thought, but Tobias pushed it aside for now. He had to focus on Chloe and Alorath.
"Come on, we need to move away from here and see what we can do." Tobias tossed his body weight forward and was soon rising to his feet, even as he hissed back a sharp stab of pain that movement in his shoulder caused. Glancing at his arm, he couldn't see anything that looked like it was broken, but he was not a healer. It felt as though his arm was not where it should be.
Turning to Chloe he asked her again, "Can you stand? We really should move."

Post by L'yst and Woreth on Aug 2, 2010 12:30:48 GMT -5
L'yst carried his basket of glows ahead of him as he walked through the tunnels. The entryway was a near disaster as it was full of debris and other things that had clearly blown in through the broken doors.
He heard some of the others behind him as he moved forward. At one point he found debris from the rock walls. Holding up his baskets of glows he could see a fissure in the wall. That would have to be checked out and examined and fixed or else the whole wall could come down, he thought. Gently touching the wall, it didn't move or settle, so he pressed onward.
When emerged into one of the main chambers, L'yst was amazed. It looked as though it had just been up and abandoned, just like the Weyr. Pieces of furniture still sat around the room, dirty, dusty and some clearly showing signs of wear, but the room was spacious and would make a great gathering space for the Hold.
"This is amazing. I do not understand why these people spent so much time working on all this only to leave it behind," L'yst mumbled to no-one in particular, though there were others exploring the room with him.

Echo was considering following L’yst and Lorcan into their way of the Hold when a Bluerider touched down behind her. S’ren was already off in another place, completely separate from the rest of the group, and if there was anything she’d learned, Echo knew it was better to travel in pairs. But, as she was going to head after S’ren, the man who had, thankfully, taken her to the Hold in the first place, the Bluerider became instantly agitated.
“Hey, miss, you know Healercraft?” He asked her without dismounting his Blue. Surprised, Echo looked up at him. He looked nervous, anxious really, and his Blue had begun to prance as if he were standing on hot coals.
Echo blinked, “Uhm, yeah, I am a Dragonhealer.” She answered with a slightly confused tone in her voice. In an instant, both rider and dragon seemed to melt out of their skins in the relieved sort of way, and Echo had a sudden sinking feeling in the pit of her stomach.
“Please, hurry, we need to take you to Alorath.” The Bluerider exclaimed, motioning for Echo to come, and Echo did so. The climb up the Blue was much farther than the climb up S’ren’s Green, but with the urgency of the unspoken event, the Bluerider seemed to rappel Echo up his Blue’s side. He quite nearly wrenched her arm out of its socket, which, in most respects, might have set her back a few seconds, but right now she realized that it would have had to wait until later. Luckily, her arm was not pulled out of her socket but rather just wrenched, and a quick roll of the shoulder and she clasped onto the Bluerider’s stomach.
In an instant, the Blue took to the air. The sinking feeling, which hadn’t really left her stomach, was back full-force, and the girl swallowed, hoping nothing was too wrong. Aloenna, who had been resting on her neck again, pushed herself into Echo’s shirt as the dragon took off, because she rather liked it in there, especially when flying, she realized. Echo had to clasp both hands securely together in order to not feel as if she were being forced off of the dragon’s back in flight, but the Blue did not realize, nor did his rider, as they were too intent on getting to the injured dragon. Alorath, was it? She had heard of that name before, so what color dragon was Alorath?
Echo saw a second later.
Alorath was a Green dragon, and Alorath was keening and shaking her head from side to side in confusion. The Blue dropped to the ground as close as he could next to the confused dragon without startling her, and seemed to be talking to her, though Echo had no idea what he might be saying. There were also two people there, too, and both seemed to have arms that had been, well, Echo didn’t rightly know, since she was too far away, but it seemed that both had two limp arms.
Cheeping, Aloenna peeked out of Echo’s shirt as the girl dropped to the ground. The little green firelizard was confused by the sudden emotions and frightened when she felt Echo’s stomach flood with fear. But Echo kept her calm and retrieved her jar of numbweed from her shoulder bag before plucking the green off of her shoulder. Time to see if the green could truly be as dragons were. Though dragons weren’t able to between for some time after birth, Aloenna could already fly, so it stood to reason that she could also Between. “Aloenna, hey, sweetie, I need you to do something for me. Do you see this? Remember where we sleep? I have another one there, do you know? Another one of these. Go get it, please.” Aloenna stared at Echo’s eyes and then at the ointment jar, and then chirped. She jumped out of Echo’s hands and disappeared with a puff of cold air. Echo let out a breath and hoped to the high skies that Aloenna was old enough to do this kind of stuff.
“Umm, hurry?” The Bluerider was obviously anxious as he jumped down beside her and tried to push her along. But Echo did not budge much.
“I can’t as well go straight to a hurt dragon!” She snapped at him, and to prove her point, she walked in a semi-circle around the Green. He followed behind, a bit perplexed. “Hey you two!” She called as she neared the two other humans. She noticed one of them, “Greenrider and MasterTanner Tobias, I’m Echo. Greenrider, please tell your Green that I can help the pain go away, but in order to do so I need to approach her!” Yeah, and rid their pain, as well.

With a guttural wail, Sivarith dropped like a stone from the sky, settling to the ground with a screeching scratch of razor-sharp claws on the stone. "Back, all of you," she ordered, her eyes already on her daughter.
She heard the questions of Sorelle but ignored them for the moment until she could get closer. With exposed teeth, she pushed past the blue dragon, though she took care around Tobias and Chloe. "Egg spawn," she said to Alorath, "be still."
Sivarith began emitting a sound mother dragons had used since the dawn of time to calm their young, though her posture clearly said she was not one to be trifled with at the moment. As she got closer, she could see the position of the wing and she knew immediately Alorath would not be able to take flight easily, if at all.
"Alorath's wing hangs," she thought to Sorelle and Tonuth. She continued her soothing song to her child, moving ever closer, until her nose touched Alorath's.
