"You know me," he chuckled, after a moment. "Always eloquent! What brought this to mind, if I might ask?" He tilted his head slightly.
His fingers traced lightly over her upper back, caressing her skin, thoughtfully. Marriage, huh? That's... An interesting idea. I can't say I've met many riders who'd up and get married.
He frowned, just slightly, lifting his head and turning it aside so she couldn't feel him frown. But, then, I'm not a Rider anymore, am I? I'm a Holdfolk, now - A Holder, at that! A Lord Holder needs a Lady Holder; Heirs, inheritance, and the like, certainly, and it's not like I mind but...
But what?
His breath was slightly tense in his chest, muscles slightly stiff in sympathy; An unconscious tell as clearly indicative of his thoughtful distraction as the frown he wore.

Evie’s smile faltered as she felt his muscles stiffen, breath tight. Excitement perhaps, she wondered hopefully, but didn’t really believe it. What was wrong? Suddenly unsure of herself, Evie seemed to shrink a little as she tried to explain, “You’re a Holder now, so it would be appropriate for... I mean, I thought that since we both enjoy each other’s company so much -”
She sighed, trying to banish her shyness and simply be truthful. Yes, the fact that he was founding his own Hold lent certain expectations, but that wasn’t the reason she wanted to marry him. It was the furthest reason from the truth. In a small, but firm, voice she said, “I know things work differently in the Weyrs, but I want to spend the rest of my life with you and I thought marriage would be... good.”
After a moment’s pause, she cleared her throat a little and asked, “Does that make sense?”

He blinked, and his throat locked up. He swallowed, slowly, and hugged her closer, blinking away a stinging sensation in his eyes.
After a moment, he stepped back, grabbing her by the shoulders, holding her at arm's length, staring at her, intently, deeply thoughtful. He chewed his lip, brow furrowed in concentration.
He didn't seem to trust his voice, for a long, few moments. Finally, he blinked a few times, took a deep breath, as if preparing to speak... And then simply nodded, and hugged her close. "Yeah... Yeah." He said, again, after a moment, nodding as he did so. "Evelie," he spoke, softly, slowly lowering himself down, hands sliding down her arms, until both of his hands clasped her right hand.
Once kneeling, he briefly puzzled over what to say. He knew he was supposed to kneel down to propose, but - But what? Well, there was supposed to be something with a ring, and - A ring! He glanced around, swiftly wracking his memory for anything he might have with him. Finally, he licked his lips a little, and murmured, "Ahm, I appear to be forgetting part of things, but... Evelie. Will you... Forgive me for not having a ring? I, ah... Wasn't expecting to, uhm... Would you like to get married? To me, I mean." He smiled up at her, though the smile was a bit nervous and awkward.
He waited for her reply with a slightly confused sense of reverence and awe for the magical words he couldn't help but feel like he'd managed to fumble, a bit.
It's the thought that counts, though.
Isn't it?
That thought put a little spark of nerves through his already taut muscles.

Surprised by the sudden hug, Evie didn’t know whether to be happy or worried - he wasn’t saying anything! She felt his hands on her shoulders, waited tensely as he stood there, silently, no clue as to what he was feeling. For a moment it seemed as if he would speak, but then he hugged her again. Confused now, Evie finally started to get an idea for what was going on as his hands slid down her arms...
”Would you like to get married? To me, I mean.”
Evie beamed, sheer happiness filling her face. “Darvin, you... you are an infuriating, wonderful man. Yes I want to marry you!” She ran her free hand up his arm to the side of his face, and bent down to kiss him. Hovering close, she said in a low and slightly teasing voice, “A simple, ‘Yes, Ev, you’re right, we should get married’, would have sufficed, you know.”

"If it were that simple," he replied, with a mixture of feigned confusion, and amusement, "Everyone would do it, wouldn't they? Besides, I wanted to do it properly; Or most-like, anyway. So..." He kissed her back, smiling, and stood, slowly, his lips remaining very nearly in contact with her own as he did so.
"What else is there to this whole wedding thing, anyway? I figure there's more than just this, but I'm not sure." He canted his head, slightly, and gave her another soft kiss. "Or is it just that?" He puzzled it over, a moment, his lips resting against her own almost absently, as if unwilling to break the kiss for such a little thing as talking. "I do hope you know more about this than I do, dear Ev, because I'm completely out of my depth, here." He gave a soft chuckle, and kissed her, again, this time, long and slow.

Evie giggled as she returned his kiss, melting into him. “I’ll take care of everything,” she reassured him, laying her head on his shoulder, “you just have to show up." She added, almost as an afterthought, "And be well dressed, of course.”
“You worry about finishing our home, I’ll worry about decorating it and everything else," she muttered against his neck, "Though, I suppose I’m going to have to recruit a few hands - well, pairs of eyes, actually.”
The tips of her fingers just barely trailed along the side of his face until they found his lips, guiding her kiss. She sighed happily, slowly reaching her arms around him for a tight embrace. “I’ll let you get back to work,” she smiled before her voice dropped to a low whisper. “I love you.”

He smiled, and chuckled, softly, though he blinked at her last words. After a moment, he laughed, again, soft, sincere, and surprised, before kissing her, once more. "I love you, too, Evelie; And I suppose you might be right. Do you have any preference as to who ought help you? Eralynn could carry missives back to the main Holding if you would like." He canted his head.
"I do hope you know what you're doing," he said, after a moment, his voice suddenly small and soft, nearly lost in the sounds of construction. "I've never seen a wedding before, and I've little idea what to expect; How nicely do I have to dress?" He ended in a contemplative seeming non sequitour.
He took half a step back, still with his arms loosely around her, and pondered what he'd - Yes. That will make a lovely wedding gift.
"Just, ah," he said, a moment later, "Hold the wedding off for at least..." He chewed his lip. "Three sevendays. Would that be enough? There're, ah," He paused, a moment, "Important... Things. That need doing. To be done, before the wedding." He nodded, importantly, unconsciously not realizing the sagely gesture was lost to her.

Things?
Evie cocked her head and shot him an expression of blatant skepticism for a moment. Instead of saying anything though, she smiled again and simply replied “That won’t be a problem. Three sevendays it is.” Her tone shifted to a more businesslike quality, “If Era would like to help, that would be wonderful. As for how nicely you should dress, the tradition is to wear one’s best, though it really won’t matter to me as I won’t be able to tell. Much.”
“Should I let you get back to working on... things?” she teased.

He laughed, and a slight color took his cheeks, embarrassment and playful amusement mixed, "Ahm, yes... Things. They are very important things, you know." He paused a moment, and glanced down at his clothes. My best? I think these are my best. A warm, supple hide jacket, with soft, airy cloth beneath. Pants of a coarse, but sturdy cloth. I think I need a better 'best', then, he thought, to himself, and winced. I'll send that request back with the rest of the supply requests, when Era returns to the Weyr.
He leaned in, to kiss her, again, though, this time, it was a little deeper, a little more lingering. His lips smiled against her own, as his blood quickened at the prospect. He was even a little excited. A wedding! Me. Married. And with little Darvins and little Evelies wandering around the house. He gave a slight, mental frown, before nodding inwardly. I'd be glad if they had some of my features, but I do hope they take after Ev. His internal monologue widened his smile, as he pulled her close against him, and kissed her, briefly, more deeply.
