Celebrity Name for Face Claim Toby Keith
Character Personality: Tobias is a rather friendly sort, as long as the other person he’s dealing with is friendly. If anyone dares to insult him, his work, or others around him, well, Tobias will quickly change into a burning inferno that aims to put that person in his or her place. He’s got a strong sense of fairness and justice and expects everyone to do their part to help when help is needed.
Tobias has always loved the dragons of Pern, but preferably from afar. He does not enjoy riding high through the skies or the strange cold of between. He’d much rather have his feet on the floor and his hands working the soft skins that are a part of his daily routine.
Character Background:
Born to two very loving parents at Igen Hold. Tobias’s father was a journeyman beastcrafter, and his mother worked as a Fosterer for the many children in the Hold. Tobias was lucky enough to spend most of his childhood with his own mother, but he also visited with his father when he could. This is how he grew to love the animals of Pern.
When the time came for Tobias to choose his own craft, he had expected to follow in his father’s footsteps, yet, his father had seen a special gift in his son. With his encouragement, he apprenticed himself to a journeyman tanner and was soon granted entrance into the Tannercraft Hall in Igen.
Tobias’s love and respect of animals, led to him handling the hides and skins he received with such care and precision, that his work soon became known for quality and creativity. As he continued his work and studies, Tobias soon reached the rank of craftmaster. His work was well known throughout all of Igen and even many other areas of Pern. Each piece showed such care and attention to detail that very few others’ could compare.
When the skies began to burst with the new strange fires, Tobias had been only one step away from becoming the Master Tanner of all of Pern. A position desired and coveted by many, but only held by one. Tobias, knew, however, that to achieve that position he would have to bide his time, possibly for years and years as the current Master Tanner had no intentions of leaving his post.
As Tobias had watched the skies, he had grown wary and anxious of what this could mean for Pern. When he heard that the Junior Weyrwoman of Igen was leaving and taking those who desired it to a safer location, Tobias packed up his tools and joined the exodus. Even though he’d have much preferred to stay firmly planted on the ground, Tobias found he had a terrible feeling about what would happen if he stayed behind.
Once the group arrives at their new home and are unable to make contact with those that were left behind, Tobias assumes the role of Master Tanner, creating a small Craft Hall to begin work for the riders and holders at Dragon Weyr and Dragon Hold.

Tobias smoothed the now soft-hide onto his work bench. This prized piece was much larger than those they often received and Tobias intended to make the most of this opportunity. After having soaked, limed and colored the skins to perfection, Tobias now picked up his shears and began working with the leather.
Master Gamatal entered the workshop, walking with a slow gait as befit his aging body. Tobias raised his eyes and watched the Master of Tannercraft. Gamatal had truly changed much of the craft back in his youth, introducing new methods and techniques.
“Ah, Tobias,” Gamatal said, sighing with relief as he settled onto a stool. “I see you have worked that hide to perfection. You truly have a gift, Tobias. You will make a fine Master one day.” Gamatal’s eyes showed his respect of the younger man.
“Thank you Gamatal. You honor me with such fine words.” Tobias inclined his head slightly as he spoke. “I can only hope that I live up the legacy you yourself created.”
“You will, son,” Gamatal said, rising and turning to leave. “I’d like to see that piece when you finish. I’m sure it will be a one-of-a-kind piece of exceptional work. Just as all your pieces are.” With that Gamatal left the workshop, leaving Tobias with much to think about.
